Bought this game about a year ago on gamersgate. Loaded it up, played it for a bit, didn't like it. Thought I'd take another look and just tried to register it, said my key was not valid.

Either you've typo'ed the code, or put it in the wrong field. Note there are separate listings for EU:Rome, Rome:VV and Rome Gold - you'd need to put it in the right place. And do make sure you're not mixing up 1/I/l or O/0 .
