Recently me and a friend have been talking about how EU3 would be if it was on the Ipad, or any other tablet. We'd come to the conclusion that it could definitely work, if with some slight tweaks.

What do you think? Discuss

Edit: Please don't make this into a Apple hating thread, or else this thread will be closed :(

But why? Tell us why it would be a bad idea.

Personally I'd love to play it on the go, on my tablet. And the gameplay features would technologically be able to translate onto the Ipad or other tablets. And I'm sure It'd sell well if they sold Chronicles for let's say 5 dollars or so. Maybe even 10. Itunes and Android Marketplace also lack these types of games, so it wouldn't have much competition. And it's not like it's not powerful enough to run the game. It even has higher resolution than most of our monitors. So, what's the problem?

This has been discussed many times. It simply couldn't work. Screen resolution isn't the issue, tablets don't remotely have the GPU power, screen responsiveness, and most especially the fineness of user control required.

I don't really see how the specs are a problem. Tegra 3 is quad core, running at 1,4 ghz. And tablets can run unreal Engine 3 without many problems, and most new games are in HD. It can render full hd with no problems. So i don't see in any way how it wouldn't be able to run EU3.

Playing EU without a mouse would be a nightmare, so, no. Never.

And if EU was to be adapted, the changes to the engine and the interface would be so huge that that would be a completely different game altogether.

On the contrary I believe that they wouldn't have to change much. The mouse is pretty easy to integrate through touch. And the screen resolution would be able to handle the big screen. What exactly do you mean by "that it would be a completely different game altogether" ?

And btw, I'm not talking about phone, that would be insane, just the tablets +7 inches.

Because it's not a good idea, there are no upsides to it.

Upside is easier control, a mouse is quite a cumbersome input device. A touch screen also would allow you to use both hands at the same time. Downside is that the screen is a bit on the small side, but I could see it work. Fast reaction RTS games like Star Craft would gain more from touch screen, but I think EU3 could have quite something to gain here.

I would never buy it. Never mind the fact that I would have to buy a $400-500 dollar tablet just for a game I already have and enjoy immensely, there's that annoying fact that you have to look at what the average tablet user wants from a tablet experience and hardcore gaming isn't one of them, even if they're hardcore gamers. The games sold currently are only there to entertain you for a few minutes at a time. If you want EU3 on the go simply get a mid-range laptop, they're quite cheap now. I saw one for $389.99 at Best Buy-- at Best Buy! And let's not forget that when the put a PC game on a tablet it will, inevitably be inferior to the PC version.

Processing power and different input (mouse versus touch) aren't really issues, I think. Some tablets now have decent processors, and touch versus mouse is personal preference.

I think the main problem is with what EU3NOOB said. Tablets just have a different audience. I don't know if a game like EU3 would sell well.

It could work, certainly. But it might not be a good business idea. That could change as tablets and how people use them evolve.

Imagine playing EU:3 on a computer with a CPU significantly slower than the slowest Intel atom processor.

Besides, it's not even x86 but ARM it would require a complete overhaul.

Of course i would buy it for 5-10$ on my iPad! I think most of us on the forum with a tablet would. It would be supercool to see, but i still think that it would be easier to control as it is today on a pc. The discussion is on wether paradox should do it, which i also agree they should not as it wouldn't make that much money i think.

Yea, tablet CPU's and GPU's have come a long way since back then. Current Tegra 3 tech provides tablets with a 4 core CPU which clocks in at around 1,4 Ghz. And if I must remind you, Europa Universalis 3 has a recomended system specs of 1,6 Ghz Dual core. Tegra 3 nearly doubles that. Tegra 3 also supports OpenGL 2.0 which is needed to run Europa Universalis 3.

How exactly can they not run it? The only problem with the conversion of platforms in my eyes is that they need to port the engine it runs on onto the Ipad and Android.
