Deg Tegh Fateh v. 0.6 released.

    Download here:
    http://www.gamefront.com/files/21553...Tegh+Fateh.rar

    Main changes:
Ton of new provinces in Sindh, Gujurat and Rajputana

    Same with decisions

    Annnnnddd...

Here's the surprise Vaisakhi present!Every single vanilla province in the world has been redrawn with better, more natural borders! There is not a single province in the entire map left which still has the old, curved smooth Vanilla borders.

Well, actually there are a few, but only Japan and Sumatra, which have small enough borders not to really need redrawing. And the wasteland provinces, mostly.

It's now nice and yellow like your coat of arms. The combination of light red and light yellow looks nice, IMO.

The real reason is that I wanted to make the British Empire pink, and Denmark looked too similar. But then I changed my mind on that when Britain didn't look right.

Indeed, I'm trying to avoid that. No high-res textures, and very few new tags are the rules.

I'm working on the new Indian provinces for 0.7 atm. It's been a nightmare doing central and south India, since the British-period maps I'm using mainly show a chaotic patchwork of princely states. Unlike Punjab, which was largely annexed as a single piece of territory, with a few exceptions like Patiala.

This looks extremely promising. Will definitely give it a try when it's out of beta/closer to 'official' release.

This looks great. It's about time India got some love, and it certainly needs a ton of new provinces. Are there any balance issues with the colonisation of India out of interest?

I don't know as of yet. India isn't finished, the next version (0.7) will have all the new Indian provinces (making a total of 63), but tax/manpower values will not be balanced until later, probably in 0.8.

Unfortunately, the EU3 AI doesn't really seem to like colonising India. A few extra missions might help, to give Portugal, the Netherlands, France and of course England a foothold. ATM they just have a few general 'take an Indian port' missions, but they should really get some actual conquest missions for specific provinces.

The real balance problems are not going to be with colonisation from the south, but from the north and west. Historically, India was repeatedly invaded from Persia and Afghanistan by powerful Islamic empires with advanced technology and fearsome warriors. The Mughals were the most famous of these invaders, and like most others before them, they 'went native' and became an Indian kingdom in their own right. Later, Persians under Nadir Shah and Afghans under Ahmed Shah Durrani would make the same journey, attempting to destroy the Mughals themselves. The Persians and the Afghans both had considerable sucess, but their advances didn't last long. Nadir Shah's empire didn't outlast his death, despite capturing Delhi and bringing the Mughals to the brink of destruction.

The northern attackers were opposed by various forces from the south. The Mughals faced Hindu kings, and also the native Islamic sultanates of the Deccan region, who themselves warred with the Vijayanagara Empire, an enormous south Indian Hindu kingdom commanded by the great city of Vijayanagar. Vijayanagar was larger than Paris and possibly even Constantinople, but it was eventually razed and wiped from the face of the earth by the Deccan sultans, leaving only the massive ruins that surround the modern village of Hampi. Later in their rule, the Mughals also had to defend themselves against the Maratha Empire, a powerful grouping of southern Hindu states based near modern Mumbai and commanded by the legendary ruler Shivaji. The Marathas would beat back the Mughals, and eventually expand their domains to the borders of the Punjab and the gates of Delhi.
The combined Persian and Maratha invasions weakened the Mughal Empire drastically, creating a power vacuum that would be exploited by an old enemy: Afghanistan. After the death of Nadir Shah, Afghans under Ahmed Shah Durrani declared independence. They soon invaded Punjab through the Khyber Pass, inflicting catastrophic defeats on the Mughals and Marathas alike. However, the Durranis didn't take into account the Sikhs, who had been in ascendency in the Punjab since 1699. The Sikh enclaves in Punjab lead a series of uprisings and millitary campaigns against Ahmed Shah, forcing him to invade the region again and again, each time with the intention of exterminating the Sikhs. These attempts all failed, and Ahmed Shah died without an Indian empire to call his own. Sikh millitary communes called Misls took over from the Afghans, and these would be the foundation stones of Ranjit Singh's Sikh Empire, which would conquer much of Afghanistan and seal the Khyber Pass for good (or at least until 2001).

Managing the balance between Persia and India will be the tricky part. Indian states never really invaded Persia and Afghanistan themselves, but Afghans and Persians found it very difficult to maintain a direct hold without 'Indianising' themselves. Of course, since EU3 AI doesn't like to pay attention to cultural and geographical divides, it's going to be hard to keep a good balance between the superpowers of Persia and the Ganges.

Not sure. This week, possibly later.

The new provinces won't be balanced though. At the moment they are all basically clones of whichever province they were split off from. Editing all the history files will be a big job, probably for version 0.8.

0.9 will have the new events and gameplay mechanisms.

It's probably best to wait until 1.0 or 0.9 if you want to have an interesting and fun game with an Indian country. Before that it's just like vanilla with more provinces.

Looking great, love all the new provinces

Got one technical question (if you dont mind), how do you edit positions? Do you use the old or new editor?

Which editor do you use? Are there any drag-and-drop ones? I would love to just be able to click on the map and have the editor work out the co-ordinates, rather than stab randomly in the dark until I can see the thing.

I use the same editor, although there were 2 versions, one for pre DW and one for DW specifically. I use the one where you need to flip provinces.bmp manually for it to load properly (so the older one essentially).

As for drag and drop, i suspect Paradox wizards (ie developers) use something like that (even better), only its not available to us mere mortals.
