Edit: Wow they have helped me a lot, I remember trying to play after reading/watching some tutorials ans I was stumped completely still... Watched these and I actually managed to get well into a campaign without getting stuck on something because I don't understand it!

The only thing that stops me is my lack of strategy skill

Episode 8 just went up, which covers the land part of the military.

I had more to talk about on that topic but focused on the basics going with the series title. Should suffice for now...I hope :-)

These videos are extremely good, I think this thread should be stickied to be honest.

I do have one request though. I was wondering if you could eventually do a video on advanced land combat. I'm a military history major, so I understand the merits of encirclement and such, but I just can't seem to get great success within the game's mechanics just as one example. I was thinking that a step-by-step video tutorial on more advanced concepts like that would help people like me, who are extremely new to the game. Obviously that would come after all the more basic tutorials have been completed.

Anyway, as a HoI3 noob I can say that I look forward to your next video! =D

    Oh yeah absolutely!

I just need to get this basic stuff done so everyone is on the same page, as you said.
I want to make sure that every new tutorial I make now can be understood by someone who watched my previous tutorials but is still new.

Now that I explained how the combat basics work and frontage and such I can build on that, and I plan to do so.

    Thanks!

I'm really impressed with the quality of these. Great job.

I got to say, thank you for this series of tutorials.
I have never really gotten a good hang of HOI3 but until now I have just failed.
You have helped me get a good hang of the basics and such, I have not problems playing this game now!

So thank you VERY much! <3

Now that you mention it, I think I might do something similar. I have a friend who likes the theory behind the game, but it too intimidated by the learning curve. I'm thinking that these tutorials may be enough to bring him on board.

    Yay!

I'm sure you can benefit too from friends playing the game, as you can share stories and tips or play some multiplayer.
If my tutorials can help with that then that makes me a happy man :-)

Can you make tutorials about life as well? I mean, how to get the best jobs, how to make great dinners. Stuff like that. I'll be the first to watch!

  16. #36
Haha, I'll put that on my to-do list :-)

    That's interesting!
I'll be waiting for air and naval combat sections , as i'm not too confident with these.

Certainly! Me and my friend can't play naval/air focused nations at the moment because we have no idea what we are doing

I have to agree, even as a long time HOI player, you have pointed out some areas I never really paid attention to. Oh, the correct word in English Simone is, "Cadence."

One thing, you may have overlooked in the battle description parts which is important to me is the over stacking penalty. I think you over emphasized the reserve focus on fronts too much rather than how much of a penalty having too much frontage can have in a battle. This could be a detriment to newer players, where as starting a battle and then using movement around these battles is a good method of tyeing down enemy units for a better encirclement maneuver.

For new players I suggest either Japan, or Hungary.

Japan becuase the war starts after a year, enough time to reorganize and lay down a chosen technology track and get into it (Germany usually takes me several days, real time, before the war starts). But also, becuase of the supply requirements in china are quite harsh which will teach you very well to overcome, as well as the requirements of supplying outlining garrisons in the islands and the effects of proper OOBs with this regard too. Sea invasions and resource gathering is also very important here too. As well, you also get a very good mix of maintaining Army, Air Force, and Navy.

Hungary becuase it let's you focus on diplomacy, espionage, and technology moreso than already formed alliances do. You also have a pretty good chance at forming the Balkan region yourself, and will struggle later strategically, dealing with the Soviet Union becuase your army isn't very powerful comparably (if you decide to go axis), forcing a specialization of technology.

Your presentation is outstanding and very professional. Your tutorials should definitely be stickied, regardless of how old the game is now. Paradox take notice!

    Thanks for the feedback, Wunderlicht.

You're right about the stacking penalty. I definitely have to explain that stuff so I'll segue over there from air unit stacking which is even more pronounced, in episode 9.
I think it should fit in there nicely.
