Modern sea combat is a deadly game of hide and seek, and the best captains are those that have mastered the art of remaining hidden and striking from a safe distance. Understanding how to use sensors and how to best position vessels to preserve capital ships is the difference between a national hero and a waterlogged corpse.
In this, the fourth video developer diary from Turbo Tape Games, the Naval War: Arctic Circle development team talks about the art and science of naval combat, with dramatic footage of the consequences of failure in the frigid North.

Earlier video diaries established the setting for the game, told you about the navies you can command, and, most recently, dealt with how weather and the environment will affect your radar.

Here the developers previous report on the conflict:

Exactly how does multiplayer work? Will there only be fixed senarios with fixed units or will there be some way to generate a bit more of a random scenario ?

It would be cool if there was a point system (like the one in the total war series) where each player got to buy his or her own fleet for a set value of points and deploy somehwere in a zone. The opponent would do the same and deploy in some other zone. The chosen units would be hidden to the opponent and therefor you wouldnt know what you were facing. Maybe the opponent went for subs and you have to keep looking for them, or maybe he just went with an airforce and your about to get attacked from the air, or maybe he just went with missile boats ? It would make for a some really interesting gameplay and make sure the player always have to be on his toes since there is no telling in what will come for you!

I realise that a system like this, if not implemented already, would be hard to implement on the fly but maybe in a patch or a future expansion? I really think it would add a lot to the multiplayer experience. :)

Robinsa,

Currently there are fixed scenarios. We have a provision for some variance in positions, but that's it. Exactly what you are describing is something we'd definitely like to do, but we had to cut it from the "nice to have" list to get to a launch date. Absolutely a great possibility for future content, especially if many buys the game (hint hint)! :)
