Weapons changing over time?

So I was playing a little while ago in multiplayer, and noticed that the X-122 assault rifle, the weapon I usually play with, had a holographic sight attached to the top of it when I selected it in the spawn; but when I found an AI soldier using it in the field, it had normal ironsights. Is this a result of me using it for most of my kills, or something else? Haven't noticed anything like that (yet) with other guns.

I was originally planning fully customizable weapons, but that was waaay too much work. So I just made it so there are a few random cosmetic differences on some of the guns [ the pistol, and X-122 ]. There are probably 2-3 versions of each.

Oh, I see. How are the differences decided? Is it always like that, and I just hadn't noticed?

They are randomized, since it's just cosmetic. Yes for those guns it's always like that.
