That is true, Churchill even said that if the home islands were to fall, the Royal Navy would fight on from the overseas territories. Realistically though, I think you would probably see a Vichy type event, where the British are split into collaborators or free fighters, and some colonies might start to declare independance, like an Indian uprising. Would be an interesting scenario.
