How to Select Just the Planes in a Province

I usually can accomplish this by boxing over just the Flags of other land units in the province, but this doesn't always work.

Never really bothered me since I'd just order the airplanes to another province, reorganize them, then fly them back, but I'm curious if what the actual method is supposed to be.

If it's a large province, you can box the airport icon.

He didn't mean that (I think ) but is has also bothered me for some time. If there are 1289312783267812368712 air units in a province, and I want to organize them into groups of 4, what can I do?

Select one unit, press CTRL and drag-select around the icon. This will select only the units of that type (Land, Air, Navy)

I usually go directly over the sidepanel when i want to pick a certain (air-)unit out of a big stack, the colorcoding makes that pretty straight forward to me.

Right click on the spire/counter in the province, it allows you to pick what type of unit you want to choose, like "Select Air Units".

It requires a little practice to know the right spot the click, but it's definitely the quickest way.

That doesn't help if you want to select multiple air divisions, which is my intention for creating this thread.
This is something that I think has been overlooked in ALL Hearts of Iron games, it's a bit more complicated than it should be to select groups of specific units.

Left click on the airport/airfield box then once you have one aircraft unit selected your should be able to hold shift and create a box to select only air units. You can also use this trick for selecting only naval units (or land units I guess, but that is the default selection anyway).

same, first select any air units then drag a box with shift pressed, that's what you wanted?

Select Units in the Prov then rightclick and 'Select all Aircraft' from the menu/Box over the empty but for planes prov
Rearrange to your hearts content.
