So, after messing around with the DH code I managed to gain enough courage and inspiration to attempt a Modern Day Scenario. I haven't done much, but I'm really excited for a playable finished product. I have not done much, but seeing as how painstakingly annoying it is to mod DH (and HOI2 for that matter) it took me 2 days of on-and-off work to finally add just a few nations.

So far I've added Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Macedonia.

What I was thinking of doing for the major alliances is definately going to be along the lines of NATO vs. CIS vs. China and/or Iran based alliance. But I cannot decide on that. I would like to do a USA (And Friends) vs. Russia (And Friends) vs. China (And Friends) situation, but I would not ever expect Russia and China to go to war IRL, so it also feels weird to me. I dunno, what do you guys think? Let me know. Also, the start date will be March 1st 2012. So it will be in the "future" unless you are reading this on March 2nd 2012. Inception.

I have not really much, but it took long enough simply to get Serbia, Montenegro, and Kosovo all working. Adding new entries for them in the config and DB files weren't working, so eventually I said "screw it" and renamed the Ostland and Ukraine German puppets to Macedonia and Kosovo, changed the flags and counters, and called it a day :p.

Serbia has a complete OOB with accurate division names and positioning of forces. Kosovo has a militia division (the KPC). But I have not edited the OOB for any other nations, YET. It took me 30 minutes of trial and error to get the China situation working... PRC controls the mainland, and there is Nationalist China on Taiwan, I might rename them to RoC or Taiwan, but not sure yet.

I'm posting this here because I know for a fact that I cannot do this all by myself, at least without taking months... I can do the map editing and army editing by myself, BUT I will need alot of help with Ministers and Leaders. I might also need some help on flags depending on what I can find.

*I fixed Suez, but I'm waiting to get North Africa done before I post a screenshot.

That is all I have done. Like I said before, not much, but it took a hell of a long time. Any help would be appriciated, but I am really looking for help on ministers and flags. It couldnt hurt to help me with the OOB of some nations, or map editing either, but I can pretty much take care of that.

I hope to show more progress in the future!

I'd advise to push the start date back to January 1st, 2011. By doing so, you would include much more events within the game's timeframe, like the Arab Spring (Tunisian/Egyptian revolutions, Syrian uprising, Libyan civil war, etc...), Japan 2011 Tohoku earthquake (Fukushima incident, remember?), Spanish 15-M protests, Spanish and Portuguese general elections (among others), Berlusconi's fall, the ongoing financial crisis... and such.

However, for the moment you said March 1st, 2012, so I'm giving you the Spanish government data as of February 28th 2012 (that would be today). Each name has a link to an image of that person, though you can find many more if you just google the name:

Ideology: Social Conservative
Government type: Unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy
Government party: People's Party

- HoS: Juan Carlos I
- HoG: Mariano Rajoy Brey
- FM: José Manuel García-Margallo y Marfil
- MoA: José Manuel Soria López (as Ministry of Industry) or Luis de Guindos Jurado (as Ministry of Economy and Finance); since the "Minister of Armaments" post is a somewhat ambiguous one (I always thought it was the Minister of Economy of the country), choose the minister you think fits better with the post.
- MoS: Jorge Fernández Díaz
- HoI: Félix Sanz Roldán (as Director of the National Intelligence Centre).
- CoS: Fernando García Sánchez (as Chief of the Defense Staff)
- CoA: Fulgencio Coll Bucher (as Chief of the Army Staff)
- CoAF: José Jiménez Ruiz (as Chief of the Air Force Staff)
- CoN: Manuel Rebollo García (as Chief of the Navy Staff)

Note that this government is new: The PM (Rajoy) took office in 21 December 2011 after winning the 20 November elections, with his cabinet taking office the next day. Some ministers (the HoI, CoA, CoAF anf CoN) were already in office before the new government took office, though. I note this to you in case you change the scenario start date to an earlier date, since the Spanish government would then be Zapatero's one.

Spanish OOB:

Army: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Army#Current_structure
Air Force: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Air_Force_Order_of_Battle
Navy:
- Organization: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_Navy#Current_Fleet
- List of current ships: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_active_Spanish_Navy_ships

Anyway, good look with your mod! ;)

When I first look at the map, my first question was how are you going to represent the EU? Also, currently there is no use to conscript a standing army, since a simple bomb in the right place could devestate an entire army, as I know, the smaller and more elite forces are used now. As well as nothing larger than a destroyer has any use, with a technology where you can send a ballistic missle anywhere in the world... the current system is for the numbers, and not the technological advance.

You'll want to hand the German Prussian provinces over to Poland, and release a lot of Middle East and African countries, have fun looking up ministers and leaders for them...

Pedro Morenés Álvarez de Eulate Minister of Defence.

^^ Well, it's obvious that minister of Armament was a post suitable for the 30s, now it has evolved since the 60s into the minister of defence post.

Minister of Armaments was a somewhat backwater post that paradox used to allocate random ministers as they saw fit. Thus, for Germany, in 1936 they had Werner von Blomberg as MoA (Minister of War). However, for later games they placed Walther Funk (Reich Minister for Economic Affairs) on it (if I remind correctly) and for 1944 they just put Albert Speer (Minister of Armaments and War Production) in there. In DH games, this is corrected: it is not Blomberg as MoA anymore, but Hjalmar Schacht (Reich Minister of Economics); thus proving that the post makes more sense for an economics minister, rather than for a defense minister (there're already posts for the chiefs of all branches of the armed forces, so placing a minister of defense, which is basically the one who coordinates those, makes little sense).

I see... you know what would be a cool feature? If we could change the minister post name for each country like i suggested in this thread:

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?563345-Possibility-of-changing-minister-post-names

Don't you think?

Yes I was thinking of this right as I woke up and I completely agree. I'll do so now!

Anyway, good look with your mod! ;)

Thanks for the help, and thanks for the good wishes!

IN My opnion the BEST start date is 1 january 2000.If the mod starts in 2011,the mod will have 5 or 6 events to the countries.

while early events will get less, in the best ways to get the mod 1st of january of 2000, would have hundreds of events and a long line of gameplay.

Another modern day mod? Like I always say, good luck, and be aware what you are getting into (really).

Luckily for you, you can "borrow" some of the work from the mods that died trying to do this.

Maybe if there was a Darkest Hour equivalent to the Clausewitz editor, this would be going alot smoother.

Indeed. With their permission and giving credits of course.

Here is a screenshot of the Yugoslav states. I've finished the OOB for Serbia, and I'm going to start on PRC's.

Also back on topic, this looks really good and I hope you have smooth progress in making a mod that will please the masses Boss.

THANKS CHIPPO. I'm going to send you a thank you card, be sure to czech out your mailbox in the next few days!

I was thinking of starting it in 2000, I might add a second scenario to the mod depending on if I can even finish adding all these gotterdammerung countries :p

I'd do it simply for the spread of events, ALOT happened between 2000 and 2012. By the way, I can't believe it's been 12 years since Y2K :O now I guess we need to worry about the Mayan Calander? XD

._. yes...

When I first look at the map, my first question was how are you going to represent the EU?

Probably something along the lines of how it's represented in MDS2 for the original HOI2.

I was thinking of trying to revamp the combat system to represent this, but I want to get the map editing over ASAP. It's the most time consuimg process and I am pretty good with doing events and all that. Glad you mentioned it though.

You should have asked permission to use the gfx but its ok, you credit us atleast. Good luck on the mod!

Thanks lots, that means alot coming from a modder like you :)

And now onto the mod update: After 2 hours of late night work induced by Soda and Vitamin Water, I have FINALLY finished Belarus and Ukraine. Yes, it took 2 hours. This is such a slow process, the only thing that is keeping me from quitting is that I know the final product is going to be worth all this damn work! And I still have a VERY long way to go! Added a flag for Serbia that wasnt taken from Yugoslav Wars mod BTW :p

EuropaUpdated.PNG

^ Pic for anyone interested. Also notice the Saarland is now German, Danzig is Poland, and... das et. Also complete OOB for Serbia is done, including air forces (obviously no navy >landlocked). And I'm going to give the Prussian provinces to Russia/Poland tomorrow. NOW I SLEEP.

If you are going to have the start date as 2011, Spain's starting ministers will be different. The data I gave you about the minister cabinet as of 2012 is still useful, though, since Spanish elections were held in 20 November 2011, resulting in the change of government I mentioned you. There should be an event representing those: once you have advanced enough on the issue and start making events, I can help you by giving you information about the Spanish ones.

Anyway, this is the country minister info for January 1st, 2011 (the OOB would be the same):

Ideology: Social Democrat
Government type: Unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy
Government party: Spanish Socialist Workers' Party

- HoS: Juan Carlos I
- HoG: José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero
- FM: Trinidad Jiménez García-Herrera
- MoA: Miguel Sebastián Gascón (as Ministry of Industry) or Elena Salgado Méndez (as Ministry of Economy and (2nd) Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs); since the "Minister of Armaments" post is a somewhat ambiguous one (I always thought it was the Minister of Economy of the country), choose the minister you think fits better with the post. IMPORTANT NOTE: It is important that you keep consistent with the ministries you use for each role. Thus, if you choose the Minister of Economy to fullfil the role of the MoA, all previous/future MoA should be the Minister of Economy of the country. Alternatively, the same applies if you choose the Minister of Industry.
- MoS: Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba (he was also First Deputy Prime Minister at the time).
- HoI: Félix Sanz Roldán (as Director of the National Intelligence Centre).
- CoS: José Julio Rodríguez Fernández (as Chief of the Defense Staff)
- CoA: Fulgencio Coll Bucher (as Chief of the Army Staff)
- CoAF: José Jiménez Ruiz (as Chief of the Air Force Staff)
- CoN: Manuel Rebollo García (as Chief of the Navy Staff)

As you can see, HoI, CoA, CoAF and CoN posts suffer no changes. Neither do the HoS, but well, he has occupied the post since 1975 and will still do until his death, so no major issues with it. :p

EDIT: Remember that this is the current Spanish flag:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_Spain.svg

Many people tend to confuse this one with the Francoist one (the one with the eagle, but with which shares the same colors).

Good luck! ;)

i thought darkest hour was supposed to be the easiest game to mod so far?

One thing is how easy is the game to mod, and another one is how much work you must do to create a good mod. Look at Kaiserreich: that large amount of detail, with all these new countries, events, OOBs, images and other features is not something you do from one day to another. ;)
