If I could get hurt, it would probably be another matter, but I would probably still watch from the sidelines.

For me it's the first 30 years of Finnish independence (1917-1947), followed closely by overall post-Kalmar Union Nordic history.

I've always been fond of the period from about 1000-200 BC, which basically brought about the dominance of Greco-Roman civilization in the West. But since I'm a contrary sort, I'm most interested in the enemies of the Greeks and Romans...Persia and Carthage.

Reconquista-era Spain and the late Medieval/Renaissance transition in general, though it's one of the least appealing time in history to live through, between the Cathar crusade, the Great Famine and the Black Death.

I find T'ang and Sung era China intriguing, though I don't know all that much about them.

Dunno. One thing would be Germany in 1900 and 1937, just to see how it "felt" to live back then. The other possibility would be the young United States in the 1780s / 1790s and meet people like Washington, Adams, Madison and Jefferson.

All history mentioned already is rather samey. Therefore I will pick the period of 1960-1999, as the music was the best during that period.

Although, providing we dont already blow ourselves up via global warming or meteoroid impact, I would think the tense time period in the future would be interesting to live in.

    Persian.

Which is hard to do due to the thin work that is ever done on the region (Sassanians especially). Other than that, anything before 1914 is good.

The period of Frankish domination over most of Western Europe, + much of the Eastern Roman Empire's history.

My interest constantly shift but right now love the middle ages. If I could live in the past for one day I would choose Iceland in maybe 800 AD on some sunny summer day. Why you may ask. There is a reasonably strong chance that a large number of Irish people lived in Iceland before the Norse colonization and if I am unlucky and no one lived in Iceland before 870 (Nįttfari settled in Iceland in 870, but almost no one gives him credit) I can enjoy the unspoiled nature. I am also very interested in nature. Anyway, my visit would answer a lot of questions. Unfortunatly I doubt any one would take me serious if I would tell people about the study and the results.

Early middle ages, without question. Late antiquity is all about the fall of the western Roman Empire, migrations, Islam, Merovingians and how Christianity rises from obscurity to complete dominance.
And then you have early middle ages proper with the Carolingians, vikings, Al-Andalus, feudalism and the development of the kingdoms of France and to a far lesser extent Germany.

If I were to pick a time in which I'd like to live myself though, hm. Italian renaissance perhaps. Al Andalus during its zenith is a strong contender as well.

United States 1763-1836 "Founding a Nation"

    United States 1850-1870 "Antebellum-Civil War-Reconstruction"

    United States 1890-1918 "Progressive Era"

The First excite me gloriously at the victory of liberty and the ideals of liberalism, the other two make me furious as the beggining of its demise to Progressivism and centralized unbalanced power. Of course none of these come even close to how infuruating the US Supreme Court decisions of the last 90 years are.

Outside of that, Central Europe is always nice.

For some reason, I've always wanted to be a fighter pilot, flying a Spitfire, during the Battle of Britain. Then I remember what horrors, other than my (most likely) very untimely death, I would have to live through, to see that. As for periods I'm currently reading up on, it's actually WW2, but it's in the Mediterranean theatre, as my father has just given me a book from 1950, about the life of the danish soldier Anders Lassen, and his exploits in the SBS there.

I'd probably choose to live in Rome under Augustus. That or getting to hang around during the conquests of Genghis Khan.

My favorite periods would be ancient Rome until the time of early empire, Byzantium during Middle Ages, and ancient China.
"It is because people's minds are not logical and enlightened that the Empire is in disorder. If the country is not properly ruled there will be no end to rebellions. And if anyone wishes to get the knowledge of how to rule it properly he will only find it in books. That is why the publication of books is the beginning of beneficient rule."
