...is far too underrepresented, IMO. In the vast majority of historical cases, a foreign conquering nobility has either been completely assimilated into the native culture within a few generations or (in cases where there was a complete restructuring of the government e.g. the Norman Conquest) there has been a kind of hybrid culture formed taking elements of conqueror and conquered. Under no circumstances has a chance inheritance by a Apad prince caused part of the Iberian penninsula to become Hungarian, nor did the Crusades cause the majority in Jerusalem to begin speaking German within a decade. It should be far more common for a King to convert to the native culture of his primary title than for peasants to change entire language and social structure. This was an age before mass education and propaganda, there was simply no mechanism for "spreading your culture".

There is too a mechanism. It's called "impale every last Spanish-speaking peasant and replace them with good King-fearing Hungarians from back home".

Lack of vision most likely. That, and the liberal PC crybabies in the 13th century media, with all their traitor-talk about how mass impaling every Spaniard "won't work" and would be "an affront to God". PAH!

You know what I'd like to see? An event where a Lustful/Hedonist noble can convert an entire province through breeding. Line up all the prettiest young peasant girls and give 'em good Saxon genes, or whatever. The event would have a very high chance of giving your noble the Wounded/Maimed/Stressed/Syphilitic traits, but the upside will be a province converted to your dominant culture in exactly 16 years, 9 months.

You are confusing ethnicity with culture. I mean it's still a great plan, but it won't have any effect on culture. Just ethnicity.

Been plenty examples of etnic clensing in history (Turks vs Armenians, Chinese vs Nepalese, Swedish vs Danish etc) so it would be easy having those kind of events but it is probably a bit too unethical to implement them.

Ethnicity, shmethnicity. Maybe your kids need years of linguistic and social conditioning in order to formulate a cultural identity, but my kids come out of the womb chugging mead and reciting Beowulf!
