I could go on and on about what a great job DareDevil has done on this DLC and other things (ICE and more) but I will settle for a single statement.

DareDevil for President!
(Of France that is)

The Montana is already the name for the US model of Super Heavy Battleships, which is appropriate due to the fact that at 65,000 tons she is more in line with the Yamato, or the uncompleted german H class or soviet Sovetsky Soyuz
Super Heavy Battleships i have no idea why this is even in game. They were just bigger BBs, not a new class.
Btw, H class was actually 5 different ship classes, from H-39 to H-44, aka, the Dark Teutonic Genius strikes again.
Soviet Union class (Project 23) could be succeeded by Project 24.
Better to do what is done in other mods, remove SH-BB altogether, and just use the classes for higher level BB's names.

I have now reached September 1942.

I selected that Axis, Allies (except France and Poland) and USSR (starting with German defeat) get/will get the bonus.

The Germans have taken Leningrad, but Moscow and Rostov are safe. As Fance fell in early 40, Belgium and the Netherlands are still safe. Belgium is neutral, the Dutch are at war with Japan and her puppets only.

Japan has DOWed me, but no Pearl Harbor attack => I am unable to join the allies. (Is there any special requirement for the Pearl Harbor Event?)
No Japanese invasions anywhere (Wake is still in US hands, the Philipines could be in the South Atlantic and it would make no difference).
The mariana islands, Okinawa, Iwo Jima and Formosa are occupied by the US, I am building Air Bases and Strat Bombers like a madman, the infrastructure in Tokyo is down to zero, and my submarines are wreaking havoc.

Suggestions/Observations:
- When I build airborne Divisions manually, one is named 101st US Air. 'Screaming Eagles Div. In September 1942, an event fires that gives me the opportunity to build another 101st Airborne Dicision (as a unique unit). When the user builds Airborne Divisions by himself, the name of the 101st should not be used.
- Why is the 101st a unique unit and the 82nd not? The 82nd 'All American' was also fighting as an extraordinary elite unit, and it saw action starting with Sicily in 1943 (while the 101st started in Normandy 1944)
- When you fix the lend-lease event, shouldn't the escort carrier receive an CAG? I doubt that the UK AI will build a CAG when it receives an 'empty' escort carrier.
- The 3 Battleship techs and Capital Main Armarment do not enhance the super heavy BB. In "Dies Rae:Götterdämmerung", they did. I suggest that the super heavy BB should benefit from these techs or that it should be removed completely.

Best regards,
Roland

The Pearl Harbour event is gonna be fixed in the next patch, hopefully Germany doesnt invade France before they take Belgium and Netherlands in the next patch either :(

One of the problems with Japan appears it inability to seperate operations in China with
that of the Pacific. If it gets tied up in China forget the rest of the war. There is a
need to beef up its operations in the Pacific inc the Phillipines and the Dutch East Indies.

For the Phillipines I would suggest that when Japan DOW on the US that Manila becomes US
territory (to allow for convoys/supply til the US get tired of losing ships on it) and that
the Phillpine Army be created by event rather than prewar as they were under the command
of US forces. They would have a "weight" of 999 or so to keep them from being moved out
of the Phillipines. Also the Manila Bay fortresses inc Corregidor can be added (2xCoastal Fort
and 1xLand Fort). Several Phillipne "regular" units would be US units again with massive
weight to keep them from being transported anywhere.

Also missing the Japanese type 41 torpedo tech and night naval combat bonus for making
them more dangerous. Perhaps a bonus for CAGs for 1 year to allow for their superior air
crew training that disappeared over time with attrition.

I figure the reason Super Heavy's are included is the the Yamato which had a displacement of 65,000 tons was laid down in 1937. If you compare her with the USS Iowa, displacement 45,000 tons and laid down in 1940, or the HMS Vanguard, displacement 44,500 tons and laid down in 1941, the Yamato is undoubtedly Super-Heavy.

...

Yes the H class ships were 5 different designs, however the H-39 and H-41 designs could be definitively called Super Heavy Battleships. Designs H-42 on are something else entirely, Super-Super-Heavy Battleships or Juggernauts perhaps

As for a Project 24 ship as there was never even a design study done I leave that to the alternate historians and science fiction writers

The Doolittle Bomber Group (available on Dec. 28, 1942) has Jet Engine Tech 1950 - But I have not researched jet engines at all.
Aero Engine, Air frame, Armamrments, Airframe, Radars and Fuel Tank are 1945 tech - I have researched 1941.
Is this intentional?

Also put in events that change National Guard units from four infantry regiments to three, with the spare regiments going to help form new divisions.

Just starting and well into 1939. Great work as always but a few suggestions:

1: Lose the blue "Union" blue and exhange it for the lighter green in the production
units screen. Much more accurate and ALOT easier to read names/units! LOL!

2: cosmetic change: Get the MR and Int names under the right catagory. Like the
vanilla game and like the UK the models are reversed in name (ie P51 should not be
MR). Also some ship types are wrong or too early or missing. Some names for
the other 2 Yorktowns (Wasp, Hornet) are not there. US AAA crusiers should be
a side build for one type (1940 AAA and speed, 1936 armor-main guns).

Also would P51 be the "first" MR??? Should be the P39

3. Add event: US naval damage control: this would allow US ships taking damage
to reduce that damage by 5-10% from total taken from early 1942.

4. Add event: US torpedo failure: thru 1942 US Sub attacks on convoys should be
about 1/3 less effective (bad torpedos)

5. Add event: Nationalize the National Guard: this event would (for a brief cost of IC
and more of supply) upgrade all NG units to Inf (pain in the tuckus to do this by hand).
This would be in early 1942.

6. Perhaps only in MP games does the Panama Canal become endangered but there should
be at least a level 2 coastal fort (darn big guns there) and a somewhat larger airfield and AAA.
This was about the most protected area "in" the US (well really a bit of borrowed Panama)

7. Is there someway when a research is done for the page (or somewhere) to find what is
needed to get next type of aircraft/tank/ship. They do not always follow a single increase
in all levels, sometimes an increase in one or more is enough for a new type but you have to
guess or remember from previous games. Example on fighters a note on page that you need
level such and such on each to get to next type of aircraft (plus any side research needed).

8. Also (a cosmetic issue). Alot of pics of units still show German units instead of their
US counterparts which looks awkward.

Again great work but you know me, I can always find something more to suggest or complain
about! LOL!

I had this problem in my first game. If you pass every neutrality law, you will be stuck fighting Japan alone, with no chance of involvement in Europe. I since have passed two, for the boost in unity, and taken the hit on the third: The sudden drop in neutrality has been enough to increase my war footing, offsetting the loss in IC due to the 10-point dissent hit. Right away, UK starts being my best friend.
I also left the single garrisons alone on Guam and Wake, luring the Japanese out: They took those two islands, plus the Philippines and mount constant attacks on Midway.
Mind you, I gave all the Axis the bonuses and none for the Allies or USSR. So, Germany has thwacked the Soyuz; and Italy has romped across North Africa and taken Gibraltar and Malta.

OK, on February 12th, 1943, I was finally able to join the Allies (as the Japanese threat became large enough).

Yes, I think that is the best setup for an interesting game.

Edit:
By joining the Allies, the "no_france_poland_buff" occured, giving me a 100% boost in IC. Is that deliberate (I was not aware that this effect also occurs to the US).

Well, I'm in early 1943. I decided to play roughly conventional for my first game. Here is my situation:

Germany never declares war against Low Countries and manages to crack through the Maginot Line and conquers France in February 1940.
Germany declares war against Norway but has a good portion of its navy shattered and cannot land.
Japan completely stalls in China and after finally conquering Shanxi in 1941 get the "Lost war against China event."
Germany and Italy sweep through Yugoslavia and Greece shortly after France falls. Britain sweeps through Ethiopia and Libya.
Barbarossa happens and the Germans get stalled roughly at the Dnieper/Daugava river line although they push towards Leningrad but cannot take it.
The Soviet Union concentrates on knocking Finland out of the war and succeeds.
Japan declares war on the US in late October 1941. Pearl Harbor/"Day of Infamy" never fires. US is at war with Japan only and can't get at war with Germany because of neutrality conditions. Japan is at war with all allies. Even though the Netherlands is now part of the allies, Germany is not at war (Japan declared limited) and has a 200 relationship with the Dutch. Japan never invades the Dutch East Indies (or the Philippines) and seems to be satisfied with Hong Kong, Malaya and Singapore (or are they?).
I have 10 fleet carriers at the beginning of the war, nine of which are in the Pacific, all well supported with escorts and proceed to pound the IJN into chinchilla food. By January 1943, Japan has lost two fleet carriers, nine CVLs, a horde of battleships and cruisers and is no longer a significant naval threat. However, they ARE a significant land threat and have decided to concentrate their efforts on India, which they finally conquer completely in December 1942. In the meantime, I've taken first the Marshalls, then the Carolines (the battle for Truk was a bitch) and then the Marianas and have effectively stranded about 25,000 Japanese troops on Guam, which is the only US territory they actually took.
Persia joins the Axis and does nothing and the Soviets seem to be ok with this.
I decide to let the Japanese garrison on Guam rot and invade Indochina. I currently have a line roughly from Hue to Phnom Penh while the Japanese and Thais rush troops east to stop the advance. I don't have enough force to push hard and they don't have enough force to eject me.

Interesting things for the future of this specific game.
1) Since I'm not at war with Germany, what the hell can I do with all these "free" lend-lease mechanized divisions I'm getting? I think I now have about eight of them.
2) Still did what I always do after every patch, mod or addon: fix the damned name files and get rid of the annoying ordinal errors. I really hate having to rename units. I also take out all the names of ships/units that are situation specific. The US named ships after certain WW2 battles, which would be silly if those battles don't actually happen and honored the loss of HMAS Canberra with their own USS Canberra, which is silly if it doesn't ever get sunk in the first place. Also, the "Americal Division" was created from three national guard brigades in New Caledonia that were divisioned together. I just take it out of the naming fields. If I want to name a division because of a certain event or structure, I'll name it. I also fixed it so it properly names the lend-lease divisions. It is really sad to see some of these naming errors still be left from HOI2.
3) I might actually have a working atom bomb by early 1944. Considering that I already have taken Iwo Jima this might be very unfortunate for the home islands.
4) Oh, the "Kamikaze" event fired after I took Iwo Jima. Not like I've really noticed any difference however there really isn't much left of the IJN anyways.
5) I'll probably go after Guam anyways after I've starved them down a bit and get a couple more Marine divisions operational. The surrender of that many troops is going to do wonders for their national morale. Depends on how much of a meat-grinder the Indochina campaign turns into. I took the Marshalls and the Carolines with nothing more two Marine divisions and battleship support. Going after the bulk of their land forces in Southern and Southeast Asia will take a little more than that.

All in all, I really like the mod. I love some of the new addons. I just wish the political situation made it a bit more practical to fully utilize them. Maybe in the next game.

Calvert (and twimc), I'm pretty much in the same situation as you, with a few exceptions. I am at war with Germany, but can't do much about it. I landed a few divisions at Casablanca, but naturally they were out of supply once they moved more than a "province" or two from the port. The biggest difference with the Japan situation is that they have Australia all but wrapped up. They have the Philippines and are in western India. They had no trouble at all with China. They haven't landed in the DEI (who needs oil anyway?). The British still have Singapore, but it's pretty isolated. There isn't much left of the IJN (even though all I've sunk (carrier-wise) is one CV and three CVL's. I guess they haven't been building much of a navy. We've traded Wake back and forth a couple of times, but I think that it's pretty safe now. I have Iwo, but I'll have to build more B-29's before I can take advantage of that situation. The Japanese divisions in southeast Australia are well-supplied even though Japan has very few transport ships left. Germany has France, the Low Countries, Denmark, Norway, and Finland. In the USSR it's way past Leningrad in the north, adjacent to Moscow in the center, and is adjacent to Rostov in the south. The Italians and Vichy French are all but evicted from north Africe (the British have taken all the ports). So, overall, things don't look bad at all for the axis (better than in the real thing, especially for Japan). Good mod, although there are still some of the "deficiencies" that have been with HOI3 since the beginning.

Oh yeah, I didn't give any faction (or country) any advantage with the new settings in DI:SS.

I think the biggest problem with the mod is not with the mod specifically. The problem is that Japan is proving to be impossibly difficult to write a good AI for. You can say, "Well, we're going to build up a navy capable of taking on the US for a while" but that leaves you with insufficient ground forces and transports to invade the Philippines and the DEI with. That is a technically complicated undertaking. You can say that "Well, we're going to build an army capable of knocking out the Chinese and taking India" but you leave yourself vulnerable to the United States pounding you early.

The Japanese simply have too many things they need to do and not enough resources in which to do them effectively which is why an AI Japan is often so weak. Perhaps "Dies Irae: Rising Sun" will help fix that.

Im having a problem with starting this mod..

i can start Vanilla HOI3 with FTM and start a new game.
when i start DISS the start menu comes and i start new game and when loading the game it "CTD" when i come to Adapting History.

any ideas what i can do?

One of the problems I feel, is trying to match History TOO much. Remember - Japan was basically tied up in China - never really properly conquering it. I like how in this mod you can try and influence the future with favouring a faction.

One very simple solution, is when the game starts (in any mod, or even vanilla) - and present the player with choices along the lines of:
1) Leave as is
2) Weaken All Chinese Nations (via combat penalty)
3) Weaken the Eastern Chinese Nations
4) Weaken the Eastern Chinese and Strengthen the Western Chinese Nations
5) Strengthen All Chinese

the hq ai seems to be completely broken , as an example i have a force of 5 corps and 1 army hq in sciciley and the units just wont move up through italy even with rome objective . another example i have a similar army in plymouth and 1 corps at home near boston , i have a prepare order on the army ai for st malko and the units in the usa refuse to move to a port for transportation to plymouth .
i have an elite corps of para troopers that i planned to invade norway with , i set a prepare object at lerwick , so they would must there , the are currently sitting near boston and refuse to move , all units mentioned have transports availble ,
sorry allthough the DLC has great and exciting unit choices and tech tree , the hq ai is completely borked making playing it very frustrating .

There is a minor issue with the War Plan Red decision:
It can be chosen before Canada joins the allies.
I suggest either to make "Canada is part of the Allies" as another condition for War Plan Red OR make Canada Join the Allies when the player choses War Plan Red.

Sticky it
