World War Begins
Since the conquest of China, the world has been rather quiet, as if holding it's collective breath like one would do while waiting to see if the monster in the closet is really there. Every soul seemed on tenterhooks, just waiting for the dam to break. Of all places it began with a workers strike in Spain. Workers and unions wanted higher wages and gathered around Barcelona and Bilbao. Major strikes also broke out in Madrid. The government tried to use the army, calling the strikers communists. Rumors spread concerning the possibility of Moscow directly funding the strikes. While others spoke of Berlin indirectly funding, some said buying, the Spanish government. General Franco seized control of the army and refused to to follow the civilian government's orders. Then Soviet advisers were spotted in Bilbao. When the press broke that story.....
Before anyone knew it, Spain was torn apart with three major factions.
The trade unionists and progressives formed the "nation" of Euskadi which was immediately accepted into the Comintern.
Italy did not wait to consult her allies, but immediately sent aid to Franco and his army.
France, Japan and the UK held a hurried meeting and then agreed to aid Franco.
Garrison troops stationed in Gibraltar were the first to march to the aid of their fellow fascists.
Shortly thereafter, an attack was launched against Coruna.
Elements of the Russian navy were engaged while attempting to intervene against the assault fleet.
From the home islands, only naval bombers could immediately assist with the amphibious attack. Shorter range bombers were rebased to France to assist in the overall war effort.
The fortified province of Granada was invested by armored and motorized troops.
Malaga was also attacked, while cruisers led by the Hood performed shore bombardment in support of the attack.
FM Ironside, hero of the Chinese war, took overall command of the Spanish front and direct command of the attack on Granada.
Two light armored divisions attack Badajoz.
Another infantry division joins the attack on Malaga. Then....
France and Germany both contribute troops towards their respective factions. It is now a world wide war with almost all the major powers engaged upon the fields of Spain.

The Axis of Imperial Powers
