    I once had "the Unready." I'm not sure how he got that name, he won every war he ever started (and the rest of them, too) and played a huge role in setting up his son to unite the British Isles. I suppose it's a mystery that shall confound historians for centuries.

    Got the unready too, really wanted to know what caused that but I couldnt figure it out either. He was patient thought that didnt make sense being called the unready and being patient.

    For the ones that got 'the Unready', did they ascend to the throne very young and have the trait 'arbitrary'? Under those circumstances it's reasonable to call them 'the Unready', at least until they prove themselves. Alas, except for a few (i.e. the Conqueror) most are simply based on your traits and not your actual rule. Not really sure there is much they can do their though.

    In the directory, under "Crusader Kings II/common/nicknames.txt" you can read all the prereqs for obtaining all the nicknames.

    Well, for all that are gained without other triggers. I wonder how could I get, for example, the Conqueror.

    The Conqueror always gets awarded for a successful invasion I think - it is actually part of the victorious peace settlement: soandso will get get whatever territory, howevermuch prestige, and become known as The Conqueror.

    One of my best kings was known as The Cruel from his twenties, but towards the end of his lifetime became known as The Great. Didn't do the exalted among men thing either, the game just gave it to him because he was clearly awesome... which i thought was pretty cool.

    I've had Pious with one of my rulers. It's either because he had a LOT of virtues (5?) Last 2 rulers of that family were practically saint people, not counting mass murder and tyranny, and had crazy diplomacy and zero intrigue.
    Or perhaps because I gave a lot of duke titles to the church, since I enforced my Byzantine empire claim and was stripping a lot of rebellious vassals out of their titles.

    It's an event if you are male and have the chaste trait and a "rival" whatever that is in CK2 terms. Maybe if you both hate each other you are rival.

    My son who was King of Italy after I put him on the throne there ended up becoming the Devil. I think I now know who killed my other 6 sons.

    I do believe that PI is making a little history joke.

    Because it needs the trait "arbitrary", they might be playing off of Æthelred the Unready.

    My first King of Ireland became "the Bewitched". He's the same one who filled the Gates of Hell with stones and converted to Walldesian (sp), back to Catholic, converted to Cathar, and then back to Catholic

    I got this too while in the middle of battle, but it's a random event that's linked to prestige (look @ the nicknames.txt refer'd above)

    You know what I find a good way to fight a lot a not lose my ruler in battle? Rule with Queens, and let your husbands do the dying.

    In my aborted 1.2 North African Crusader Kingdom game all my kings had titles in this order "King Catone I the Just", 'King Adelfo I the Wise","Sultan Adelfo II the Bewitched", "Sultan Ali I the Great"


    To get bewitched my ruler did two things, he constantly favoured his lover consort, legitimized all their childrenand when his wife finally had enough and plotted to murder him he had her imprisoned and executed and for lulz I decided to marry his consort. Around then the bewitched started appearing as his nickname.
