    NORTH AMERICAN MP GAME #2

    http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/...a-Series-2-FTM

Hello, our group of players is going to do its 2nd MP game together. We traded seats and I'll be playing the USA this time, on the Allies side. It’s going to be interesting to play a nation entirely new to us. Here is our TABLE OF CONTENT, which will be updated on a regular basis.

NDLR: Keep in mind that our official translators’ office, the Bureau of Communication with Foreigners, is very busy and, as such, you may find out, while reading our AAR, that our English might not be as good as you hoped it to be. For any complaints, you can get in touch with our customers service, 24/24 hours, at 1-418-234-2779 (1-418-BeH-appy).

    EMPIRE OF JAPAN
TABLE OF CONTENTS [Updated FEBRUARY 27th]
    NORTH AMERICAN MP GAME #2
    http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/...a-Series-2-FTM

Hello, this will be my second game with the NA mp group, my first however where i get to play my country from the beginning so i am quite happy about that. Further more japan is by far my favorite country to play and i have played countless mp and single player games with them across both hoi2/hoi3 titles respectively.

The table of contents will be broken down into chapters and as the game unfolds, be told through the eyes of the narrator (ie:myself). As well 1st hand accounts from various commanders, diplomats, advisers, this will add a certain roleplay element to my part of this aar, hopefully making the whole experience more immersive for you the reader.

They shouldn't go anywhere but a screenshots folder. If it doesn't exist it should then create it.

Good luck everyone! I'll be watching.

    Moscow, July 1, 1937

Comrades, the date is now July 1, 1937. Over the past year and a half, much progress has been made in our country. We have cleaned out a good number of the traitorous officers that stood in our path to victory. Our reindustrialization efforts and rearmament efforts are going swimmingly. Our standard of life, and our women are unmatched by the other jealous European countries.

Meanwhile, the war against Ethiopia has been raging on for an unbelievable amount of time. Since Stalin was curious as to how starving Ethiopians could possibly hold of the Italian Army, he sent his most trusted NKVD officers to get a glimpse of what was holding up the Italians in July 1937. Here is a glimpse of the world map centered on Ethiopia on July 1, 1937.

The NKVD also managed to snap a few photos of the Italian high command planning the Ethiopian operation. Here is what they found:

You selected "thumbnail" in the attachment apps. It is the default size. Uncheck "thumbnail" and pick "large pictures" or something similar. Can't access the menu right now. Don't know why.

    NEW POST FEBRUARY 16th
    NORTH AMERICAN MP GAME #2

    http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/...a-Series-2-FTM

During the period of January 1st 1936 to July 1st 1937, America spent most of its time handling its ailing economy, moving from one scandal to another. In Africa, Italy’s failed campaign in Ethiopia triggered a national crisis and loss of confidence in the Partito Nazionale Fascista (PNF).* In the rest of the world, few events are to be noted, except that a huge conflict is looming in the Far East, as the Emperor of Japan and the Nationalist China Leader, Tchang Kaï-chek, could not settle their dispute. Fear that frequent skirmishes on the frontiers, constantly reported since 1931, could become something else, is spreading.

    * Italy triggered the event “Trains are on time”, which means the popularity of the PNF dropped below 40 during the year 1936. Not a sign of good health of the Fascist regime.

    A STRENGTHENED NEW DEAL
    Chicago Herald Tribune
    Winter 1936

On January 12th, the government of the USA announced the nomination of Robert Wagner as Defense Secretary. This shuffling of the cabinet was made to support the tabling of a new legislation in March of the same year, by the Democrats. Seen as a way to increase the economic activity and provide jobs to numerous American families of the Rust Belt caught in the tumult of the current economic crisis, the Prosperity Act, known also as the “Wagner Act”, has been enacted by the 2 chambers in the following months.

With this Act, this government pledges to invest massively in economic infrastructures for the coming years, in order to bring prosperity back”, said Defense Secretary Wagner. A strong believer of Free Trade, Wagner also supported a politic of intensive trading with all economies, whatever their political orientation. As such, America welcomed trade offers from all around the world, treating China, Japan, Germany, Italy and United Kingdom equally.

Some critics called these: “Communist inspired politics” and denounced the danger to which the State will expose the average American, e.g. losing its freedom of action to a government planned economy. Since Keynes published, in 1933, The Means to Prosperity, the debate between pros and cons is an ongoing battle.

Some other voices condemned the support America is giving to Italy’s aggressive actions against a free state like Ethiopia, when it accepts to trade with it. Intellectual are pressing the government to seize The League of Nations of this matter and quell this threat to International Peace.

    1936 BASEBALL WORLD SERIES
    Chicago Herald Tribune
    October 1936

The President of the United States of America, F.D. Roosevelt, attended the final game of the 1936 Baseball World series. After the NY Yankees won over the NY Giants in the 6th game by a score of 13 to 5, including 7 points in the last inning, our President congratulated both teams for their spirit, and invited every Americans to follow their example and find in this great moment the determination and courage needed to face the current economic crisis.

In 1936, the New York Yankees were not only without their best player, but also perhaps the greatest player in the history of the game. We all remember that, prior to 1935, the Yankees released the legendary Babe Ruth. Many, among us, felt that the yanks would not win again, as "The Babe" was seen, by most of us, as directly responsible for the Yankees' dominance of the late 20's and 30's. But the players, like up-and-coming rookie outfielder Joe DiMaggio, who hit twenty-nine homers and one-hundred twenty-nine RBIs in his debut season, and Lou Gehrig and Bill Dickey, pushed forward and led the old "Bronx Bombers" to the glory. Hail to the braves!”, commented our President after the game.

The President avoided the Press when questions were raised over the allegations of fraud against J. Edgar Hoover, who had to resign as Secretary of Interior following a scandal, a 2nd one over the last 12 months for the Democrats who were re-elected in November 1936.

    NAVY OF THE FUTURE
    Chicago Herald Tribune
    Spring 1937

Both Douglas MacArthur, Chief General of the Army, and Claude A. Swanson, Chief Admiral of the Navy, met the Congress to defend a new politic aiming to modernize the fleet and allow a complete reorganization of the army. These efforts were met with great scepticism, even if rumors of Germany rearming itself, in clear contradiction to the Versailles Treaty, and Japan massing troops on the borders of China, can be heard even in the comfort of the Congress. But so far, the Isolationist doctrine is a wall, against which every attempt to prepare America for the worst squashed themselves hopelessly.

Hi Everyone, Canadian player here, first attempt at an AAR, hope you enjoy.

    CANADIAN AAR

"History Teaches us that men and nations behave wisely once they have exhausted all other options"-Abba Eban

It would be a long time before exhaustion, too long. In 1936 we did not yet know who would become exhausted first. We understood roughly where Canada and the rest of the Empire stood in the world, but across the pond, the enigmatic actions of Italy and Germany belied a possibly more sinister agenda.

Italy was mired in a war with the resolute Ethiopians, who were accounting themselves quite well so far in the war. But the Ethiopians cannot holdout for long, afterall, many of their soldiers have just knives and spears. Progress will no doubt pick up for the Italians as they roll across the rocky, ancient land of Ethiopia. Will Italy be content with access to the Indian ocean or do they dream of maps of the Roman Empire.

Germany is more troubling. I personally did not fight in the Great War, but their prowess on the battlefield is well-known, no one underestimates them. Their build-up has begun in earnest. Great black industrial factories churn out steel at a hellish rate. I have seen these factories myself, the air around them covers the sky in blackness, while the air you breath carries the heavy chalkiness of steel production. Even the rivers themselves, polluted from the runoff of the steel, have an unnatural darkness that draws the eye, capturing it. What kind of a country does this to their natural resources, clearly a country that is not yet exhausted.

On January 1st, 1936 with the sky a muted cream-white, the remnants of the last snow-storm, the hollow sounds of tires are present in the air as they roll over the bricked pavement leading up to the military headquarters. Out of these vehicles the countries top political, scientific, military, and industrial leaders emerged. They gathered at our headquarters to form a plan, a coherent strategy to protect Canada from the evils emerging from the German smoke stacks. I was young, but an emerging mind in the Canadian forces, and it was a great honor to be invited to provide input in this plan that would set the table for the direction that Canada would take leading up to the war, the decisions made here would have a direct effect on the formation of the armed forces.

What should Canada do? There were four schools of thought, each vying for the right to form the centerpiece of a defensive plan. The army naturally wanted a full scale build-up of the ground forces. "Only then could we have the troops necessary to throw any invaders back into the water," they declared. Maybe a total commitment to the army was not merrited but it certainly needed to be strengthened. The army only had one division, and a weak one at that commanded by General Crerar. Little did I know that by the next month he would be made commander of the 1st Army Group. His skill in managing supplies would be greatly needed in the buildup.

Then the RCAF stepped in and decried how there would be no need for ground troops if they had a large enough air fleet that could destroy any ships coming near shore. Then the RCN representatives stepped in and declared that the next war would be a global one, only a strong navy could have the necessary reach to land troops on the far shores of the Empire. The fourth school of thought was one supported by myself, how about a general buildup of the forces? "
Each branch supports, reinforces, and strengthens the other," I said. Grudgingly, this view was accepted if only because everyone got at least a little slice of the pie, each could be happy with the new ship, division, or squadron.

I was not privy to the highly secret research of the scientific meetings, and that is a shame, I certainly would have liked to be able to plan and know what kind of weapons I would be fighting with, but as we were not yet fighting, or appear to be near fighting, this was for the moment... tolerable.

(stay tuned to find out which Canadian Soldier is narrating)

    EMPIRE OF JAPAN
    MP AAR

    Chapter 1 "The Chinese Question"

    Prologue:

In 1931, the Japanese Kwangtung Army attacked Chinese troops in Manchuria in an event commonly known as the Manchurian Incident. Essentially, this was an attempt by the Japanese Empire to gain control over the whole province, in order to eventually encompass all of East Asia. The Manchurian Incident marked a significant change in Japan's foreign policy. The Japanese wanted to compete in a geopolitical struggle for domination with the United States, the Soviet Union, and many of European countries that had ambitions to hold their colonies in Asia. The invasion of Manchuria and the war mobilization efforts attempted to create a strong empire, which could eventual compete with these "world powers.
The Japanese government set up a "puppet state of Manchukuo" after they took over Manchuria. Manchuria was also taken in an effort to curb the advance of Chinese nationalist forces, which were threatening Japanese interests on the Asian continent. Manchuria was also used for their vast natural resources and raw materials, which would help further the economic goals of Japan.

    January 1936:

The majority of the IJA is stationed close to the border with shanix. Although there has been local skirmishes between Japanese and Chinese forces, all out war has been avoided. Weeks earlier a meeting of high ranking army officers within the Kwangtung high command headquarters in Mukden took place. Although this meeting was not sanctioned by the general staff HQ in Tokyo it was assumed by those in command to simply be a administrative meeting to discuss logistical matters for the army in Manchuria, this wouldn't be the first time Kwangtung made decisions without the consent of the top military brass in toyko. Kwangtung do have a tendacy to act as if they have the emperors best intentions in mind, an ambitious flaw to say the least. And the most ambitious man in Manchuria was none other then Field Marshal Terachui H., a man of few words but well versed in the art of war. It was he who first proposed an invasion of china to expand the empire, which would set it on a path towards a self sufficient super power, the sole power in asia. This rhetoric ofcourse did not go over well with their superiors, those of the General High Command in Tokyo, who deemed such a plan as reckless and costly. Terachui would hear none of it he knew the proper course the country needed to take to achieve greatness and he would not allow any type of bureaucratic redtape or political wrangling to prevent him from accomplishing this goal.

Within days of this meeting in mukden reports came in from all over Manchuria of a mass exodus of Japanese positions along the japan/soviet border, when word got to Tokyo the mood was one of utter disbelief..."well they must have all gone mad" one general blurted out...Takasu Shiro Chief of staff ..begins to rise from his chair... looks around the room and begins to speak..."this is not the first time Kwangtung has taken imperial state matters in to their own hands gentlemen, the emperor must be made aware of these unexpected developments in manchuria. You all know what you need to do" ..and with that Shiro falls back into his chair the room was vacant within seconds. Shiro leans back, a smile begins to slowly emerge on the old mans otherwise emotionless face ..."So Terachui you think you can conquer china do you, all by yourself....we shall see."

Imperial Army forces leaving there positions on the Manchurian/soviet border.

    April 1936:

It only took Kwangtung High command about 2 months to completely reorganize, reequip, and move its ground forces along the border wth the Chinese puppet state shanix, no war as of yet has broken out. However tensions run high at the border with local skirmishes breaking out along the line with the chinese. As tense as the front line may be, General Terachui was receiving no better feelings from his superiors in Tokyo, as he predicted the news of a mass reorganization of the army without their consent infuriated them but not enough to make any real move to replace him or attempt to cancel the order. Terachui knew that when the word reached the emperor he would side with him as he has done so many times before with his silence, "his silent consent"...."Fortune favors the bold" terachui thought to himself..."those lap dogs in tokyo no nothing of what it takes to forge an empire".

A picture showing the new frontline the IJA now shares with Shanxi.

However for Terachui there still posed a significant problem in achieving his war with china, he simply could not invade without a legitimate reason, he needed something that would inspire the people of japan to rally behind the cause...his cause, his righteous war!...but how ...he pondered. It was clear to attempt it any other way risked leaving himself exposed and at the mercy of his enemies in toyko, "they surely would call me mad, a loose canon"...he thought to himself..."they would deny me the one thing i needed the most to accomplish this task ...the navy, no i must have the people with me!."

A picture capturing Field Marshall Terachui H. enjoying one of his few lighter moments.

    July 1937:

"Finally,!" ...Terachui says to a crowded room of high ranking officers at his headquarters outside of chengde, "this is our justification for war!"..terachui throws the radio message down on the table. The message contents speak of a local skirmish breaking out between Japanese garrison forces and the chinese at marco polo bridge, this time there were a few dead japanese soldiers and with a little propaganda thrown in for good measure ..."lets say mutilation of the bodies ...most likely the genitals and faces of the soldiers killed...yes that should about do it, and make sure that all gets put in the official radio message to Tokyo i want this playing on every radio station in japan within the next 48 hours!" terachui yells at his assistant kauto,... "get it done". ...terachui presses his assistant further..."Now for my official communique to the general staff in toyko" terachui begins ..."Massive attack by chinese nationalist forces at marco polo bridge, break, sustained causalities, break, commencing counter attack will attempt to hold position, break."... Terachui pauses for a moment and then pats his assistant gently on the shoulder a move which startles poor kauto from his work, he smiles and says..."now there is no stopping it kauto, those cowards in toyko will have to back me...finally i have my war!."

....and with that asia falls off a cliff.

    End of chapter 1.

Communique: His Majesty's Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs

His Majesty reacts with grave concern for world as events seem to be taking a life of their own despite the best diplomatic efforts from the United Kingdom. We react with grave alarm the ease at which the German government has violated the Versaille Treaty. We implore the German government to vacate the Rhineland immediately, cease your rearmament efforts, and rejoin the table of negotiations. We realize now that portions of the Great War treaty may have been overly harsh, but it is nothing reasonable men cannot solve with some pen, paper, and good English tea.

His Majesty would also like to announce ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the Sino-Chinese question. Diplomats from the United Kingdom have been meeting with both representatives of the Chinese and Japanese governments to seek a amicable and peaceful solution to the territorial and pride questions after the incident at the Marco Polo bridge.

On the homefront, His Majesty would like to announce that a maassive effort to stimulate the British economy has been undertaken. Although slightly disrupted by the abdication of the Throne by his predecessor, His Majesty declares that our initiative in applying the full force of the British economy into producing consumer goods for the betterment of our citizenry has been an unprecedented success. It is speculated that His Majesty will recommend continuing this economic policy for the next few years. British citizens have never been happier with their government, and His Majesty refuses to be baited into further increasing world tensions by engaging his country in a new arms race.

Hail His Majesty, and long live the King!
If one of us is going to be unhappy, it's going to be you.

Our strength lies in our quickness and in our brutality; As to what the weak Western European civilisation asserts about me, that is of no account.

The people of Germany rise behind their Fuhrer. For too long we have been the scapegoats for the failures of the Western nations. While they wallow in their self-inflicted economic mess, we have chosen to see the future. We have begun to turn the corner, and we have set as our national goal the right for all German speaking peoples to have the the opportunity to live free and prosperous lives. The only detriment to attaining this purpose will be the Imperilaistic claims made by the Western European powers. We care not one whit for any nation that stands in our way.

I don't know how they feel about a tiny edge of one, but swastikas are against forum rules, so it's not a question of adult/not adult.

Anyway, good start guys! I'll be looking forward to how it turns out.
