I hate to be the one starting this thread, but I also hate to be compulsively checking the forums every day hoping for something. I'm not complaining, not rushing, not griping about bugs, but for me the game is no good right now and I'm waiting for the next patch before getting back into it. What is the general time we're looking at that I should expect to check back for news on the next patch?

I'm surprised this hasn't already been bumrushed with the absolutely sycophantic 'IT'S READY WHEN IT'S READY' chatter.
You're honestly better off just doing what you're doing. I think I've only ever seen 1 (2?) date announcements for beta patches and they botched it. So don't count on it until it's out. And it's actually "the one" that fixes the big issues.

In any case, I'm waiting on AHD to leave its unofficial beta before buying it, like you.
Don't get me wrong, it all sounds fun and all, but the devil's in the details. Looking forward to playing the game.

In fairness, what do you expect? You state in your post that you're not happy (despite having supposedly not played the expansion) that AHD was released in the state it is (on a personal note, I find AHD very stable and with very few bugs. There's room for improvements but I'm having a great time so far) but insinuate a demand to know a release date for the patch. You can't have it both ways: either you are happy for Paradox to take their time and get the bug-fixes and balancing right, or you demand a patch as soon as possible and accept that life isn't perfect. I've seen many other game developers suggest release dates for patches, only to receive a lot of abuse when said release date slips for technical reasons, and even more if further unexpected bugs emerge from those patches (regardless of whether the proposed release date was met). Games are complex things and players need to accept that. Personally, however occasionally frustrating (as a gamer waiting on bated breath for the next patch/update) Paradox's stance might be, at the end of the day it is one of the most honest and practical ones out there.

That's why I was reluctant to be the one asking this, but it's a been a few days now and no announcements. I'm trying to ask politely so hopefully the forum police will be forgiving.

I have already bought it. I'm happy to support PI by pre-ordering and I'm not upset about the way they do business. I like it in fact. I just want to know the timeline for a patch because I'm eager to play the game. It's just that the problems with the current version make it unplayable for me because of my play style and goals and choice of country and so on.

well, we know they are working on the patch. what else should they announce?

I got AHD at release and I have to say it's rather bug-free for me. I definitely endorse it, best 20 dollars I've ever spent.

indeed. it could use some further tweaking and balancing but nothing big that prevents you from playing the game.

What would you like to get fixed the most?

Well, support for reforms first of all. As of now, when you get two different factors for reform support (I mean in the upper house), like militancy 5 and movement of power 2, they multiply, and instead of getting plain old 50% of liberals and conservatives voting aye due to militancy(or, in case of political reforms, of socialists and conservatives), you get only worthless 0.5*0.2=10%.
Also, for some reason now pretty often rebels just disappear, I am not sure, maybe its WAD, because I notice this happening only after part of the rebellion is dispersed, still that's pretty odd when rebels occupying my capital disappear just because their brothers in Alaska are gone.

Rebels have always worked like that, I believe it happens when the pop that the rebel spawned from drops enough in militancy to disband.

I'd most like to see the new limit of 256 country tags be removed. That's crippling for a lot of mods.

The fact that as many countries you can't get clergy or hire bureaucrats properly.

What countries are those? As Persia I could with NF, and they seem like they would be hard to do it with.

This. (Though honestly I don't care that much about the rest of the patch... 'cause I'm playing mods anyway, and there don't seem to be many bugs which a bit of tweaking won't fix.)

I dont think Paradox should respond to people asking for updates. Loads of developers have done so in the past and got hell for it, once people know they are going to respond to questions they never shut up. The internet makes it far too easy to keep asking/wishing/waiting for updates. You can wish your life away doing that you know? Just play the game. If it gets updated it gets updated. If you don't like it play something else and come back to it in six months time. That's what I do.

Admittedly its been a year since Cliffs of Dover was released in a terrible state and it is still rubbish but there you go. And some bugged games like Empire Total War I never bother going back to.

In fact I think Paradox games are the only ones I keep returning to. I am still planning to return to HOI2 and play a full campaign one of these days.

To be blunt: don't buy, don't talk. AHD isn't perfect, but it's perfectly stable and quite fun to play.
