Furthermore, new nations may not be gained until further notice. If you are thrown out as a result of a Coup or Annexed, you are expelled from the game.

We currently have 32 people playing this game, and I intend to bring it down to 25.

That is all. Resources won't go into effect until the start of 1865. This is the LAST update without them. Updates are also being lengthened to one year in the 1865-1866 turn.

Europe

In Britannia, the demoralized and worn-out Communist forces are powerless to hold off the continued assaults of the British Army. The Third and Second Armies moved quickly through the countryside, coming to the gates of London, where they laid siege to the city. The Communists, unable to try and stem the tide of the British Advance, decided to abandon the city and move Southwards Brighton. The British triumphantly cut down the flag of the Worker's Commonwealth from Westminster and raised the British Flag, to the cheering of many of the city's inhabitants. [-1,000 Regulars from the United Kingdom.]

In the South East of England, an armed uprising against Communist rule occurs, where the pledge loyalty to the King, and go about murdering the local officials. By this time, the entire Communist government has collapsed, and was being perused by the British Army. The Fifth and First Armies raced across the Southern coast of England, hailed as liberators, where not a single battle took place, until one final stand at Brighton. The remaining Army of the Worker's Commonwealth was crushed under an amazing victory by the British, where not a single Briton lost his life crushing the entire Communist Army. The Chairman, Karl Marx, was found wearing a woman's summer dress, trying to escape the British Isles. A hardened British officer, who had seen his entire hometown destroyed by Marx's henchmen, walked up to the Communist Leader, and shot him him the head with his revolver, pushing his body into the English Channel.

With the victory over the Communists, King Edward was hailed as a great Hero. His image as a Warrior-King was inscribed into the nation's mind fully, ensuring, once and for all, that he did have complete control over the country. Coupled with an announcement that Ireland was returning to the United Kingdom, hundreds of thousands of Britons and Irishmen breathed a sigh of relief as their small chain of islands finally settled down from the Wars and returned to peace once more. [+2 Stability to the United Kingdom.]

The Treaty of Balmoral, talking about the suspected partitioning of the African Continent, is signed by all the nations involved in the conference. However, the cord strikes an ugly note in Germany, Sweden and Belgium, where many people are more interested the homeland rather some African territory. [-1 Stability from Germany, Belgium, and Sweden.]

In the Scottish Shipyards, the British Government announces that 5 new, highly advanced, state of the art, top of the line Ironclads are going to be built. They will be outfitted with the latest Krupp Guns, and are designed specifically for the purpose of killing other Ironclads. They are going to be commissioned as the Valiant class of Warships. A huge Kaoline expedition is undergone all across Europe by British researchers. They find a large deport in Northern England, and immediately set out to create their own factory. Extraction begins slowly as the factory is built. The British hope to become a seller in the fine China market. [+1 Industry to the United Kingdom in 1 turn.]

Over in Eastern Europe, the mighty Russian Empire finally awakens its military muscle by invading several of the Central Asian states. After a previous agreement with Afghanistan, they halt at their border, before storming westwards, and invading Persia, quickly getting a small slice of their territory, and concluding a peace treaty with the bewildered country. [-3,000 Regulars from Russia.]

In the Caucasus, the Russian Machine flattened the small, independent Emirates, and asserted Russian Control over the region. It also sent a large army group to Georgia, to monitor the border with the Ottoman Empire. [-1,000 Regulars from Russia.]

The Tsar asserted his command by having several members of the nobility killed for actions against his regime. Many had been clamoring that the Russian Empire had been selling off valuable parts of the Empire to other nations. In response to this, he quickly declared that the Russian Empire will remain the way it is now, no more selling of land, and that one day, they will indeed control Constantinople once more. Romanian officials allow Russian troops through their borders, and Russia sets up a military line against Ottoman-held Bulgaria.

In Germany, a very large, very vocal Anti-War group forms in Dresden, near the frontlines, and its popularity soon begins to soar across the country. many in the nation are upset at the constant state of war they have been undergoing. Many people just want to return to a state of peace, not caring what the outcome is. In their minds, they have unified the German People, and that is enough. Many feel that continuing to fight the war to protect Italy is worthless. In response to this, several illegal Union groups in the Rhur Industrial Area stage massive strikes, that begin to cripple German industry. [-2 Stability from the German Empire. -3 Industry for 2 turns.]

The cover is blown on a feint against Denmark, where top military papers reach Copenhagen saying that the Germans are going to make it seem like they will invade Denmark, but in fact they are just acting like it to distract from the real invasion from Sweden. The entire Nation of Denmark mobilizes over this threat, waiting for the attack.

German propaganda that the Austrian Emperor is nothing but a Slav puppet emperor is spread throughout the entire nation, along with leaflets stating, bluntly, that he wishes to break up Germany into several smaller puppet states under him. The Austrian Emperor, however, squashes this fear with his adoption of the Imperial Parliament, which consists of two houses. The House of Lords, which is dominated by the German Aristocracy, and a House of Commons, which is open to all members of the nation. He also splits up the Empire into different states, modeled after the United States of America. These new states are called Austria, Hungary, Bohemia, Lombardy, Transylvania, Galizia, Moravia, and Carniola. To combat these new changes, the Emperor brings about a new name to the country, the United States of Greater Austria. Unity between all the states is established, as each is given their own, separate parliaments.

2. Map of the United States of Greater Austria.

The major action in the Austo-German War was in Bavaria, where the German Army surged through the countryside, trying to make sure the Austrians didn't break through anywhere. A rapid flanking maneuver, designed to cut off the Austrian supply line and trap them in a pocket, fails after a train carrying Austrian supplies into Germany plows through a barrier set up to stop the train, and fresh reinforcements come off the supply train to fight back the Germans who were determined to cut the line. [-2,000 conscripts from Austria. -1,000 Regulars from Germany.]

Even though the supply line was not cut, the Germans drove the Austrians back, closer to the German-Austrian border in Bavaria, but to heavy casualties, further souring the mood of the population. Even a tour by Otto von Bismarck and the Kaiser are insufficient enough to raise moral and support for the war effort. [-15,000 Regulars from Germany. -8,000 Regulars from Austria.]

A deal between Berlin and Warsaw is reached, lending the Polish Government 750 Gold at a 10% interest rate, after a year grace period. [-750 Gold from Germany. +750 Gold to Poland.]

In Austria, a the Government creates the Vienna-Budapest Railway, with the intention of linking the states of Austria and Hungary more closely. The construction of a railroad begins in the late summer. [+1 Infrastructure in 1 turn to Austria. -150 Gold from Austria.]

In Galizia, the Polish Army advancing into the area is crushed by a resounding show of force by Greater Austria. Over two hundred and twenty thousand Austrian troops surge into the area, pushing back the entire Polish force of about one hundred and twenty thousand. The Poles, despite their massive propaganda campaign against Austria, are beaten back, as the Austrian army marches deep into Polish territory. Poland and Germany sign a treaty, allowing trade rights for Poland in Danzig, and the Polish government goes about construction of a new railroad to link Poland to the Baltic Sea. [+1 Infrastructure to Poland in 1 turn. -200 Gold from Poland.]

Due to the war, the Polish Central Industry Belt, a plan to help industrialize Poland, is abandoned as all the money dries to go towards defensive structure to defend against the Austrian advance. [-250 Gold from Poland. +1 Army Level to Poland.]

In Scandinavia, The Kingdom of Sweden declares war upon the Kingdom of Denmark, with the purpose of creating a unified Scandinavia. The invasion force is swift and fierce, as the joint Finnish-Swedish-Norwegian invasion comes down upon Denmark like a fury. All of the nation's ships are sunk, while the population tries whatever they can do to resist. The forces of Sweden pummel through the Danish countryside, annexing all of Jutland quickly, but still dealing with partisans. [-30,000 Regulars from Sweden.]

With small detachments of the Swedish Navy blockading Copenhagen, they offered the city to surrender, and the King to abdicate and surrender his country. They refuse and a long, drawn out siege lasting from August to December occurs, by which time half the population is starving. In a show of force, the Swedish Army invades Copenhagen, and succeeds in subduing the entire country. [Denmark annexed by Sweden. -5,000 Regulars from Sweden. Elsewhere in Sweden, the King announces a massive building project, which is supposed to connect many of the major cities together and promote further integration of the Nordic countries. This new measure, destined to cost a large amount of money, easily passes the Parliament as railroads are deemed to be a vital asset of the country. [+3 Infrastructure in 4 turns to Sweden. -750 Gold from Sweden.]

Belgium and Sweden sign a trade agreement called the North Sea Co-operation Pact. [+5 Trade Balance to Belgium and Sweden.]

In Brussels, they adopt massive new measures to modernize the Army, first by creating the Belgian General Staff, to better coordinate their armies, and then by announcing a massive new naval build up. Designed to be a new fleet of Ironclads, the Belgians sink deep into debt for this new endeavor. [+5 Large Ships to Belgium in 5 turns. +10 Small Ships to Belgium in 6 turns. -2,500 Gold from Belgium]

On the Italian Front, the Austrians decided to adopt a defensive strategy, while the Kingdom of Italy did the heavy brunt work. The Monarchist Italians over run the Republicans in several battles, as the Republicans were busy trying to build an elaborate Trench System, so deep no Artillery could penetrate it. However, it also proved to be a deathtrap and soldier simply shot down these elaborate trenches, creating pre-dug graves.

The Austrians sent a small detachment of soldiers with the Monarchists, and they fought together in the Battle of Naples, where President Garibaldi was giving a speech, with the intentions of trying to raise public support for the War. Many Italians, however, were done. Little resistance was put up by the population, and Naples fell in a matter of days. The entire Italian War Effort started to fall apart, with the major economic centres of the nation gone, and large swaths of territory gone.

3. Men of the Austrian Army in the crucial Battle of Naples.

The final nail in the Italian Coffin was the capitulation of the Army on the Mainland. With only a few hardened veterans and President Garibaldi, they retreated to the Island of Sicily, just as the island of Sardinia fell to the Austrian Navy. [-198,000 Conscripts from Italy. -11,000 Regulars from Italy.]

In Sicily, the President decided he would make his last stand. He gave weapons to anyone he could find, determined to make Sicily into an island fortress, armed to the teeth. More soldiers were pressed into the Army in an effort to create an army to deter an invasion force. [+40,000 Regulars to Italy. +50,000 Conscripts to Italy.]

In France, the Emperor announces that an impressive 600 Gold will be spent on various Naval activities. Many suspect a new fleet of ships, but are surprised when only one massive Ironclad is under construction, with the rest going into the Naval Academies to try and increase the amount of Naval men in the country. [+1 Navy Level to France. +1 Large Ship in 2 turns.]

Efforts by the French to reduce emigration are introduced, enticing the French people to move to colonies, or stay in the homeland. With the opening of free land on the shores of Algeria, thousands of French citizens storm into Algeria, killing massive amounts of native Arabs, to try and gain some semi-worthwhile piece of land. [+1 Push/Pull to France.]

In South Western France, a massive government initiative to build a new industrial complex goes underway, with several new factories being schedulaed to open within the next year. [+5 Industry to France in 1 turn. -600 Gold from France.]

Portugal adopted a new Civil Code, and started construction of a new University in Lisbon. A railway is also to be built, connecting Northern Portugal with Southern Portugal. [+1 infrastructure to Portugal in 2 turns. -150 Gold from Portugal.]

In Cuba, the huge conflagration that is the Spanish-American war heats up even more, as the Spanish Armada commandeers some older, wooden ships, and fills them to the brim with explosive charges. Under the cover of darkness, they sail these ships towards the American blockade, where the explode upon impact, sinking parts of the Naval Blockade, and allowing the Armada to send in a rush of relief ships, loaded with Spanish soldiers. [-3 Small Ships from Spain. -4 Large Ships from the USA.]

On the island, the Cuban Militia, along with the Spanish reinforcements, quickly turned back the American beachhead in Western Cuba, and resulting in the surrender of the remainder of the American soldiers in Western Cuba, where Spain then moved on towards the Eastern half of the island. [-1,000 Regulars from the USA.]

As fighting on the island intensified, President Robert E. Lee of the Confederate States announced that he would remain neutral in this conflict, and instead wait for the Spanish to transfer the island of Cuba to his control, as outlined in a treaty.

The Americans were pushed back to hold only 1/4 of the island, until the fighting stalled in a stalemate. Both sides hunkered down into trenches as December approach the island, and with it, a large amount of rain, making conditions on the island deplorable for the soldiers. [-15,000 Conscripts from Spain. -10,000 Regulars from the USA.]

In the United States, President Lincoln attempts to create a new Central Bank, along with the massive printing of money. The Wealthy industrialists are fully opposed to this measure and close down many war-time factories that are needed for the war effort. The American economy struggles, while the farming population is overall pleased at the new change. Harking back to the days of Jefferson, the new inflationary money is great news for all the borrowers. [-6 Industry from the USA for 2 turns.]

In Central America, the Federation of Northern Central America announced that it will be annexing the nation of Nicaragua, regardless of what the Nicaraguans say about it. Storming across the border, they found that Central American unity was much larger than they had expected, as most soldiers threw down their arms and welcomed the Guatemalans with open arms.

Greedy Capitalists steal money that was supposed to go to the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom, and instead build some industry with it. [+3 industry to Guatemala. -450 Gold from Guatemala.]

A new Government initiative to reform the administration and economy is undertaken in Central America, with the President announcing the complete integration of the economies of Central America, minus Costa Rica. Along with this, they promoted Central America as a safe place for immigrants, free from war and a stable Republic. [-100 Gold from Guatemala. +1 Push/Pull to Guatemala.]

South America

In Colombia, a Treaty is signed with Brazil, agreeing to prioritise Brazil on coal exports, establishing an alliance and lowering mutual tariffs to 14%. The lowering of tariffs angers many merchants, who see this as a threat to their business interests. Protests occur in each country, and the Treaty is quickly renegotiated to a 17% tariff.

Another Treaty is signed, this time with the Central American nations, pledging that both sides will in the future first use diplomatic means to sort out incidents and opening trade between the nations. [+5 Trade Balance to URCE, +5 Trade Balance to CGELBH (Or whatever Dyra's abomination of a nation is called)]

Meanwhile, the Government starts a huge military recruitment drive, with officers touring the nation and parades taking place in major cities. This meets with great success, enlarging the Colombian army significantly. [+12,000 Regulars to URCE]

The Government also takes several philanthropic actions, setting up soup kitchens and work houses for the poor in order to get them off the streets. Pleased by the lack of filthy beggars on the streets, and wishing to be seen as charitable and chivalrous, many Aristocrats join in funding these programs. [+1 Stability to URCE]

Less successful however, is the Government's plan to boost industry. A lowering of industrial taxes, combined with a huge increase in spending and an overloading of the infrastructure results in the closure of several factories and a severe loss of money for the Government, with many construction projects being cancelled in order to balance the budget. [-1 Industry from URCE, -100 Gold from URCE]

The Government does meet some success in Venezuela however, with both nations agreeing to cooperate with each other on many issues, such as that of resisting Spanish influence and building industry. Colombian capitalists are quick to set up factories in Venezuela and begin to gather a considerable profit. [+2 Industry to Venezuela, +10 Base Income to URCE]

Meanwhile in Uruguay, a Treaty is signed with France, gifting the Uruguayans several ships, prioritizing France for food exports, sending military advisers and investing money into the economy. The investment helps somewhat, but is nowhere near enough to balance out the Uruguayan budget. [+3 Small Ships to Uruguay, +10 Base income to Uruguay]

Elsewhere in the nation, the Government again goes on campaign to gather donations and shorten the war. Rich Liberal merchants are gathered and the Government shows them that the economy will soon be fixed by the French investment, and that they should donate to shorten the war. Failing to see any real improvement from the French investment, the Merchants refuse to donate anything, instead preferring to invest their money in less troubled nations. [-5 base Income from Uruguay]

The Presidente also makes a speech in the capital, attempting to rally the population behind the Government and the war. The attempt fails completely, with the Presidente being actively booed by elements of the crowd. The Uruguayan people are simply sick of war and the great toll it has taken on their finances and economy. [-1 Stability from Uruguay]

The country suffers a further setback when a rebel from Rio Grande is made leader of the Uruguayan army. Outraged at a man who is both a foreigner and not a member of the ruling elite being given command, the previous commander, several of his friends and many of the Aristocracy protest against this decision, withdrawing their backing from the war. [-1 Stability from Uruguay, -10 Base Income from Uruguay, -1 Army Level from Uruguay]

The Uruguayans also attempt to use German immigrants as spies in the small German communities existing in Brazil. They meet with some success, but don't manage to learn much, due to these communities making up only tiny minorities within Brazil.

The Uruguayan army, combined with its Argentine allies marches into Brazil and lays siege to Rio Grande. On arrival, they dig siege lines and begin to bombard the city, settling down for a long siege. The Brazilians have other ideas however, and a daring nighttime sally fought with only bayonets and rifle butts crashes into the siege lines, breaking through the positions and continuing on into the Uruguayan camp. Many coalition soldiers are slaughtered in their sleep, many others are wounded in the attack and still more flee or surrender, giving up hope of victory. Again, the Uruguayan army is forced to retreat from Brazil, with the meagre Argentine forces attached to the army disbanding and returning home, despite their officers commands. [-2,500 Regulars from Uruguay, -7,500 Conscripts from Uruguay, -2,000 Conscripts from Argentina, -1,000 Regulars from Brazil, -2,500 Conscripts from Brazil]

The Uruguayan navy meets with more success however, successfully blockading the Rio Grande Do Sul coast and thereby cutting off the Brazilian forces there from any supply at all. With no supply routes left, and little in the way of existing stocks, the Brazilian army is in an incredibly precarious position.

In Peru, an agreement is signed with the Ottoman Empire, promoting trade and importing weapons to Peru. The Peruvian soldiers quickly develop a liking for the Ottoman weapons, enjoying the reliability and durability they offer. Peru also begins to trade with the Taiping, increasing both nations revenue. [+2 Army Level to Peru, +10 Trade Balance to Peru, +5 Trade Balance to Ottoman Empire, +5 Trade Balance to Taiping]

The Peruvian Government also begins to construct infrastructure around most of the country. Their efforts meet with a good amount of success, helped by the advice of a wealthy Italian railway owner, who fled to Peru to escape the Austrian occupation. [-125 Gold from Peru, +1 Infrastructure to Peru]

Attempts to modernise agriculture are less successful, but still meet with some success and increase the productivity of farms nationwide. Inventions such as the Cotton Gin and Steam powered machinery are introduced, although at a high cost. [+10 Base Income to Peru, -100 Gold from Peru]

The Peruvian Government also modernises the school system, teaching a curriculum biased heavily in favour of nationalism and particularly against the native population. Many schools are set up around the nation, and harsh discipline is used to make sure attendance is high. Many Peruvian children actually enjoy school, due to the free food, clothing, housing and other privileges they would not enjoy at home. These measures come at a large cost, but support for the Government reaches new highs and the culture of the natives looks as though it may be eradicated completely within a couple generations.[-50 Base Income from Peru, Native culture under threat in Peru, +1 Stability to Peru, Peru now has a good education system]

The Peruvian Government also takes measures to enlarge the army. A years national service is made mandatory for those aged 18-36, and the army swells with willing and motivated volunteers. 20,000 men sign up for full time careers, and a rota of 5,000 men is selected to carry out their national service. [+20,000 Regulars to Peru, +5,000 Conscripts to Peru]

In Chile, special retirement homes are made for ex-soldiers. The Government spends a lot of money, but most of this is pocketed by local officials. The populace, angry at a lack of care for soldiers, begins to demand and end to the war. [-50 Gold from Chile, -1 Stability from Chile]

The Chilean Government also sends several teams to Taiping, in order to oversee the construction of factories in the nation. They quickly set up and begin to build industry, although progress is slow due to a lack of expertise in the field. [+5 Industry to Taiping in 3 turns, -1000 Gold from Chile]

The Chilean bad luck continues, as attempts to build industry in Chile itself fail. A general lack of funds, willing workers and corrupt officials causes the project to fail. [-200 Gold from Chile]

Chile also signs agreements with Colombia and the Ottomans, securing a defence pact with Peru and increasing trade with the Ottomans. Ottoman advisers begin to arrive in Chile, as do exploration teams, hoping to find resources. The advisers manage to improve the Chilean army, although Chilean engineers cannot make head nor tail of the blueprints for Ottoman Ironclads, both due to their own lack of knowledge and the fact that the blueprints are in a foreign language, which noone can read. Meanwhile, Ottoman attempts to find resources end mostly in failure, although a small iron mine is set up in the foothills of the Andes. [+1 Army Level to Chile, +5 Base Income to the Ottoman Empire, +5 Trade Balance to the Ottoman Empire, +5 Trade Balance to Chile]

In Paraguay, the nation is flooded with a huge amount of propaganda, rallying people to the cause and attempting to gain new recruits for the army. These attempts are mildly successful, and while, as in all South American nations, the population is tiring of war, the Paraguayans are willing to fight on to achieve a victory, so their sacrifices are not in vain. [+15,000 Conscripts to Paraguay]

The Paraguayan Government also calls for donations, and this meets with less success. Noone in Paraguay has enough money to really contribute to the war effort, and the efforts of the Paraguayan Government go to no avail.

Construction of new ships is also ordered, but unfortunately for the Government, a dockyard fire destroys the ships as they are being constructed. [-90 Gold from Paraguay]

With mild success, the Paraguayan Government begins to set up numerous hospitals around the nation, attempting to put wounded soldiers back into service and use their limited manpower to maximum effect. This solution is drastic, and many of those who return to the army are plagued by their wounds, but Paraguay needs every man it can get. [+15,000 Regulars to Paraguay]

Leaving only 2,000 men in their fortifications on the Matto Grosso Do Sul, the Paraguayan army moves to attack the Brazilian fortifications. Advancing at dawn in good order, they took many of the Brazilian positions by surprise. By midday, the battle had devolved into a series of bloody skirmishes in the trenches, dugouts and firepits of the Brazilian fortifications, with cavalry skirmishing around the sides of the battle and artillery bombarding the enemy rear positions. After a days battle, the Paraguayan forces had broken through and secured the position, at great cost to their own forces. The Brazilians took more casualties however, and began to retreat away to the East. [-8,000 Regulars from Paraguay, -15,000 Conscripts from Paraguay, -10,000 Regulars from Brazil, -25,000 Conscripts from Brazil]

Meanwhile, 5,000 ex-Brazilian slaves are given horses by the Paraguayans and told to create havoc in Brazil. Riding hard and fast, they mount night raids on plantations, towns and even army barracks, severely harming the Brazilian war effort and causing widespread fear in Brazil. Many are angry that the Emperor and his Government are unable to protect them from the black devils that prey on them in the night. [-30 Base Income from Brazil, -2,500 Conscripts from Brazil, -1 Stability from Brazil]

In Rio Grande, Brazilian reinforcements moving to break the encirclement of their forces are brought to a halt in a bloody and inconclusive battle. Both sides suffer horrendous casualties and begin to dig in, neither willing to attack the other. [-6,000 Regulars from Argentina, -19,000 Conscripts from Brazil]

This leaves the remaining Brazilian forces in Rio Grande completely cut off and without any supply. Bunkering down in Rio Grande itself, the Brazilian forces come under siege from 35,000 Paraguayan forces. Almost out of ammunition, and forced to butcher their horses for food, their situation looks extremely desperate, but they hold on through sheer determination. [Rio Grande itself only part of Rio Grande Do Sul under Brazilian control, Forces there out of supply, under siege and will soon surrender]

All was not bad news for the Brazilians however, as a force of 60,000 men moved westwards into Paraguay itself. Laying siege the several towns, they sacked many and continued to move towards the capital. Within their grasp was the chance to end the Paraguayan war effort, although their supply line was dangerously thin and vulnerable. [-20 Base Income from Paraguay]

Elsewhere in Brazil, an attempt to set up a national stock exchange fails horribly, as corruption becomes rife and stocks fall due to the wars effect on the Brazilian economy. Worst of all, many Aristocrats abandon their countryside holdings, taking refuge from raider attacks in the big cities. [-400 Gold from Brazil, -50 Base Income from Brazil]

The Government also tries to set up new ship building industry around the nation, but this too fails horribly, corrupt officials again pocketing funds and using the program to further their own goals. [-300 Gold from Brazil]

The Brazilians meet more success with their propaganda efforts. Angered by the raids into the Brazilian heartland, many join up to protect their homes. [+80,000 Conscripts to Brazil]

The Brazilians also purchase new Krupp artillery, at quite a cost to their finances. The Krupp artillery helps their army a lot, although the dilutions in quality resulting from the vast influx of Conscript soldiers dampens the improvement somewhat. [+1 Army Level to Brazil]

The Government also asks many Conscripts to join the army permanently, and whilst some do, many refuse point blank, having joined in the first place only to protect their homes and having no wish to take up soldiering professionally. [-10,000 Conscripts from Brazil, +10,000 Regulars to Brazil]

Africa

In Morocco, trade is begun with Oman and Yemen. Unfortunately, neither country has very much in the way of goods to trade, although some basic trade ties over goods such as carpets and food stuffs are set up. [+5 Trade Balance to Morocco]

Meanwhile, the Sultan attempts to reform his army into a highly mobile cavalry force. This is partly successful, although efforts to buy new weaponry fail due to a lack of funding. [-20 Gold from Morocco, +1 Army Level to Morocco]

Moroccan ambition suffers a setback however, when the Sultan attends a public prayer service in the capital. Just as he is about to enter the Mosque to pray, several peasant children, not knowing who he was, covered him with a bombardment of rotten eggs and fruit. The Sultan, outraged by this behaviour orders his guards after the children, sparking a scuffle which ends with the death of 2 Moroccans and the injury of 1 of the guards. News of this scuffle quickly spreads, turning many against the Sultan. [-1 Stability to Morocco]

The Moroccans do receive good news however, as an expedition of 250 men manages to set up an outpost on the Coast to the South, claiming much of the area for Morocco. Using Camels to carry supplies, they manage to pull of their expedition with minimal losses, and upon their return several hundred Moroccans move to the new area, setting up villages along the coast. [Morocco gains some land that isn't worthless]

The Moroccan army gets its first taste of battle when it is sent to combat the local bandits in the mountains. Setting up several forts, they gain several quick victories over the bandits, and mount a few raids on heavily defended bandit camps. The Moroccans take some losses, but the dominance the bandits once held over the mountains is broken. The Moroccans also have the luck to find to find several veins of Iron and Copper, at which they set up fortified mining communities. [-250 Regulars from Morocco, +10 Base Income to Morocco, Mountain regions now have rudimentary law enforcement]

The German Afrikan Corps faces fierce resistance as it tries to expand its borders in accordance to the Balmoral Conference. Several African tribes no longer want the Germans in the area, and rise up against their actions into the interior lands of Africa. [-1,000 Regulars from Germany.]

In South Africa, the British Indian forces and the Cape Town Garrison surge across the border of the South African Republic, after pushing through Rebel-Held Territory, and quickly take vast swaths of territory under its control. The Boers, however, incited another war against them by raiding Swedish Africa, to try and gain weapons left behind there. It is successful, but over half their country is under occupation with the British advancing inwards. [Sweden is now at war with Transvaal.]

Asia

The Ottoman Empire expedites the training of their soldiers buy purchasing new weapons and new supplies from Europe. [+40,000 Regulars to the Ottoman Empire. -100 Gold from the Ottoman Empire.]

The Geographical and Geological Society of the Ottoman Empire is established in Constantinople, where several famous names such as Raphael Pumpelly, John Arthur Phillips, Robert Bell and Archibald Geikie all pop up as members of this society, designed to help map out and find new and valuable resources for the Ottoman Empire. They are successful, as they find new veins of coal and iron deposits around the country. [-200 Gold from the Ottoman Empire. Ottoman Empire starts next turn with 10x Coal and 5x Minerals]

In Persia, the joint Anglo-Ottoman invasion force quickly subdues and occupies a good majority of the country, until the Ottoman Empire reaches Tehran, Persia. The government quickly capitulates and the rest of the country is divided up between the Ottoman Empire and the British Empire, with both of them deciding what to do now that the war was over. Annexation by either state seemed out of the question, but letting it fall into the hands of the Russian Empire didn't seem good either.

In Manchuria, trade is initiated with Denmark and Italy, boosting the trade of all nations. [+10 Trade Balance to Manchu, +5 Trade Balance to Denmark, +5 Trade Balance to Italy]

The Conscripts are disbanded, with 50,000 being asked to stay and join the regular army. 35,000 decide to stay, the rest return to their homes. [-85,000 Conscripts from Manchu, +35,000 Regulars to Manchu]

The Emperor also begins a 'Five Year Plan' to improve the nation. Starting with the army, he establishes 3 new military academies, 2 for the army and 1 for the navy. These measures meet with a good amount of success, finally Manchu has some form of standardised training for its officers. [+1 Army Level to Manchu, +1 Navy level to Manchu]

The 'Five Year Plan' also orders the stationing of a garrison numbering 150,000 in Korea, and the spending of funds on the rebuilding of North Korea. The garrison quickly meets heavy resistance from the locals, with guerilla attacks common. Rebuilding efforts are also hampered, with newly built bridges and Government buildings often raided. [-100 Gold from Manchu, -5,000 Regulars from Manchu, North Korea slightly rebuilt]

The final stage of the plan involves the institution of a new tax system throughout Manchuria. Peasants are meant to receive a large tax cut, with nobles receiving an even larger one. In reality, the effect of this is that the nobles overtax the peasants, and then pay less than they normally would to the Emperor, leaving many nobles extremely rich. Whilst the Government tries to get these nobles to put money into the economy, and even attempts to kickstart the process with Government funds, the attempt fails, although the nobles are extremely happy with their new situation. [-40 Base Income from Manchu, +1 Stability to Manchu, -50 Gold from Manchu]

The German China Company is established in China, with the purpose of trying to govern and control all of Germany's interests in China. The Chinese officials allow trade with this new company and relations between the two countries warm. [-100 Gold from Germany. +10 Base Income to Taiping. +10 Base Income to Germany.]

In Mongolia, the Taiping forces resumed their campaign utterly crushing the Mongolian forces that remained and restoring order to the province. They also construct several outposts and forts along the border with Russia. [ -1,000 Conscripts from Taiping, Order Restored to Mongolia]

The situation was replicated in the other provinces, were nearly a million Taiping soldiers utterly crushed the rebels, sustaining only minor losses and winning over the local population with handouts of food and clothing. [-50 Gold from Taiping, -4,000 Conscripts from Taiping, Order Restored to Urumqi, Order Restored to Xinjiang, Order Restored to Kashgar]

Meanwhile, 1,500,000 Conscripts are disbanded and return to normal life, given money by the state to ease their transition back to normality. [-100 Gold from Taiping, -1,500,000 Gold from Taiping]

The Government also sends 20 Small Ships to battle Pirates in the waters around China and along major rivers, again meeting with success. No Taiping ships are lost, and the Pirate threat is almost eradicated, greatly improving trade. [+50 Base Income to Taiping, Piracy problem practically gone from Taiping]

The Taiping Government was extremely pleased by this, and felt that never again would they have their plans derailed by Pirates. Unfortunately for them, they had not reckoned on a certain Pirate Captain, by the name of Jack Sparrow. Called by some the greatest Pirate that ever lived, he and his crew intercepted a shipment of £800,000 worth of Gold from Taiping, sinking 3 ships in a masterfully executed surprise attack. Making his getaway with the gold, he threw a calling card to a boat full of the only survivors of the attack, so that when they got back, all of China would know who had attacked them. [-3 Small Ships from Taiping, -800 Gold from Taiping]

5. The calling card given to the castaway Taiping sailors by Captain Jack Sparrow.

More successful was the gold delivery made to the North Central American Unified States, which went successfully. [-600 Gold from Taiping, +600 Gold to Guatemala]

Attempts to recruit the remaining 200,000 Conscripts into the regular army were successful, with all but 20,000 taking the offer. [-180,000 Conscripts from Taiping, +180,000 Regulars to Taiping]

Separate military academies are also created for the army and navy, improving the Taiping military. [+1 Army Level to Taiping, +1 Navy Level to Taiping]

The Taiping also begin to trade with Japan, boosting both nations income. [+5 Trade Balance to Taiping, +5 Trade Balance to Japan]

Author's Note: To Westernize, you need 10 Industry, 3 Infrastructure, a Trade Balance of 25 or higher, Income levels of above 150, and a positive Bank Account.

Speech by Leopold I, King of the Belgians: People of Belgium! We understand your concerns about the Balmoral Treaty but if we get control of those lands in Africa we will be able to reinvest the money back into the Mainland and that will make us much richer, not only this but also it will open new markets for Belgian merchants. We also encourage you to donate some money to the government of Belgium, if everyone sends a little then we will be able to completely get rid of the deficit from the construction of our new navy. Sings the Belgian National anthem Long Live Belgium and her People!

OOC: 2 of my orders aren't there either

Federation of Northern Central America

The Federation of Northern Central America is overjoyed at the huge amount of support that Central American unity has in Nicaragua. We invite Costa Rica to join us and create a United Republics of Central America, restoring Central American unity once again! No longer shall we be divided and weak. Together, we shall build a prosperous future for all of Central America!

In less joyful news, we find the stealing of government money to be a most unfortunate thing. We shall take the measures deemed necessary to make sure that such a thing does not happen in the future.

FlagoftheAustrianEmpire.png

The Empire has had succes on one kind or another on every front. I support the actions of this new anti-war group in Germany. Austrians and Germans are brothers in language and culture, and this brothers war has gone on for far to long and cost to many lives. We should make peace, and a good peace at that.

We warned the Poles of their foolishness, but they did not listen. Now so many Polish and Austrian lives have been lost, for no purpose then a failed attempt at expansion. When the Austrian army arrives in Warsaw, the polish president had best be prepared for a reckoning.

I also must ask why the Italian President Garibaldi continues to fight on? His country is destroyed, his people despise him, and his army are prisoners. There is no hope left, his government, for indeed he has no country, is lost. It is with these feelings I offer peace:

The Treaty of Marseille

1. The Kingdom of Italy will be officially be formed to rule over all Italian territory occupied by the Austrian Empire and adopt a constitutional system with Vittorio Emanuele as King.

2. President Garibaldi will step down from power, and will be permitted to retire with a government pension as long as he remains out of Italian politics.

3. The Kingdom of Italy's standing army with not surpass 100,000 men, and their navy will not surpass 20 ships.

4. The United States of Greater Austria will loan a sum of 750,000 gold peices to Italy at an intrest rate of 2.5%, to be used in the reconstruction of Italy.

5. The Kingdom of Italy shall cede Nice to the French Empire.

6. The Kingdom of Italy will give up all claims on the Italian territory possesed by The United States of Greater Austria.

7. The Kingdom of Italy will enter into a formal alliance with The United States of Greater Austria and declare war on Germany and Poland.

[x] Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria
[] President Garibaldi of Italy
[x] King Vittorio Emanuele of Italy

OOC: IC post later when I get some stuff clarified with fry but for now this is about the Africa conference.

[X] Napoleon III Emperor of the French

I also must ask why the Italian President Garibaldi continues to fight on? His country is destroyed, his people despise him, and his army are prisoners.

The Emperor of Manchuria is curious towards this statement, seeing as it would not be reasonable to say that the Italian people hate President Garibaldi, seeing as thousands have just flocked to join the defense of their homes from the Austrians and the Italian collaborators.

His Majesty's Government urges that a 2 minute silence be held, for all those that have fallen in these recent conflicts in defence of His Majesty and the Empire. We shall mourn for them, and never shall we forget them.

Several memorials shall be constructed around the nation, dedicated to those who have fallen in the struggle against those who would seek to enslave us.

Now however, is a moment for us to stand proud. We have faced down countless foes these recent years, and have triumphed over all we fought. Thanks to the heroism of not only His Majesty, but also the people of the Empire, who came together in the face of evil, we have triumphed.

Now, men of the Empire, onwards to glory! For King, for Country and for yourselves!

OOC: OConner, will you be wanting a new flag? ;)

The Moroccan Sultan Praises the Bravery of his Men in defeating several strong Bandit groups in the Atlas Mountains. He also offers an official Apology to the British Government for his insults he may have sent them and says having been egged he felt humiliated and was in a bad mood when news of their division of Africa arrived he didn't as he should or would have and hopes that relations between the two nations could move on from these incidents. He also sends congratulations on their crushing of the Rebel Government in the south of there country.

We refuse to accept the Moroccan apology. We demand that compensation is paid, both for the damage done to our honour and for the expense of having to expel the Moroccan ambassador. We also demand compensation for the cost of communiques to Morocco. In total, these damages shall amount to £1,000 (£1 in game money) in Gold Bullion.

The Kingdom of Belgium sends it's congratulations to the British government on it's crushing of the Communists. We would like to organize a visit by Leopold I to his Great-Nephew in London now that the Communist threat has been dealt with.
