Denmark is nervous about these "revolutionary germans" and their goal. This would no doubt cause problems with us trying to control Flenburg with their large german population and Holstein as they are german. We ask Bavaria and Prussia to compromise over this issue.

A German super-state seems like an interesting idea. I would like to send an Austrian representative to the conference.

OOC: Hasn't even been an update and I've got rioting. :p

Prussia.jpg

The Kingdom of Prussia is appalled by the riots obviously incited by the Kingdom of Bavaria, we demand reparations from Bavaria. Germany will be unifed, Prussian diplomacy and skill at arms will see to that.

The German "Super-State" was an idea in this conference to unite Germany WITHOUT Prussia or Austria, but stealing parts of Prussia (The Prussian Exclave near the Rhine) and Austria (Tyrol) to create a new Germany.

Also, Update inbound.

April - June 1861

North America

The news of the firing on Ft. Sumter was a rallying call for all people of the newly formed Confederacy. Quickly, secession votes in North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Virginia took place. All but Virginia decided to leave the Union and join the Confederacy. This expected increase in the overall population of the Confederacy is quickly seized as recruiting offices are set up around the country, calling men to the army, in defense of their native soil. [+35,000 Conscripts to CSA]

The new nation quickly went to work. The Army of North Carolina and the Army of Eastern Tennessee, commanded by General James Longstreet and General P.T. Beauregard respectively, set out in late April from their garrison in North Carolina. They quickly step foot into Virginia, where the militia disbands and forms the Army of Southern Virginia under the command of Colonel-turned General Thomas J. Jackson. Jackson, Longstreet, and Beauregard quickly seize Richmond, Virginia and call for a Secessionist convention, where a dubious ordinance of secession was passed. The legitimate Government of Virginia has called upon the United States to send support to defend its state.

It was too late, however, as the three Confederate Generals took their fight straight through Virginia, their goal was to slog through to get to Washington, D.C. to end the war. General Longstreet and his army advanced from the East, General Beauregard from the West, and General Jackson from the South. This would have gone according to plan, had not the Army of Northern Virginia, under command of General Robert E. Lee, took his army and used it with deadly efficiency at the Battle of First Manassas. Here, General Lee met General Jackson's army, at the day almost broke for the Confederacy, except General Lee was able to outflank the Confederate Army, and crushed the Army of Southern Virginia. Moving from Manassas Junction, General Lee slammed his Army of Northern Virginia into the left flank of General Beauregard's Army at the Battle of Millers Creek. A quick victory, General Beauregard's green troops broke and ran back into Virginia with the rest of the shattered army. Upon hearing this, General Longstreet aborted his attack and enacted a forced march back into Virginia.

The good fortunes for the Confederacy lay upon their highly aggressive and successful Western Campaign. Sending newly formed regiments and a new corps under General John B. Hood of Texas, the Confederate Army of the West smashed the Union garrison at Mesilla, Arizona, and continued on the now famed "Hood's March to the Sea" where the Confederacy captured and gained control of the Port of San Diego.

However, even with this string of successes for the Confederacy in the West, the United States of America began to mobilize. President Abraham Lincoln called up all the troops he could, asking for "50,000 Volunteers to quell the rebellion in the Cotton States". Furthermore, he opened new, full-time enlistments in the Union Army. Roll calls shot up, and men flooded to support the President. [+50,000 Conscripts for the USA. Currently training 50,000 Regulars for the USA, ready in 3 turns]

The President didn't stop there, justifying this as a wartime action, President Lincoln nationalized the Railroad, and immediately ordered construction of track around the country to ship war supplies needed to the Southern front. He also encourages much of the industry to try and get behind the war effort, and gear production towards helping the Union. [+1 Infrastructure in 4 turns for the USA. +3 Industry in 2 turns for the USA.]

The President also, for a reason unbeknownst to most of the Congressmen, advocated for the passage of a bill through Congress that would allocate a large sum of money to the Argentine Confederation, as well as to expand the Union Navy. It passes with a strict, party-line vote. [+£50 to Argentina. -£450 from USA. 10 Large Ships ready in 6 turns.]

The inhabitants of Russian Alaska received a rude awakening when the found out that the Russian Empire had sold all of Russian Alaska to the United Kingdom for a fairly small amount of money. News of this spread across the Empire, and they eventually brokered with the British for a slightly higher price. Nevertheless, Russian Alaska was incorporated into British Canada. [-1 Stability from Russia. +£450 to Russia. -£450 from United Kingdom.]

A scandal erupted on the international scale when in early June thousands and thousands of gold bullion, stamped to resemble the currency of the United States, was found in a Charleston dock after being unloaded by a British ship. Although in the vast minority, one of the dock workers was a Unionist, and quickly brought this to the attention of the world. As it seems, British was taking it's own Gold Bullion, and having people counterfeit it to become United States currency, in order to flood the market and drive up inflation.

France announces to the world that she no longer recognizes the legitimate Mexican Government, and quickly moves to send 10,000 French Regulars to Mexico, along with Ferdinand Maximilian Joseph, to try and unseat the Government and install a Hapsburg Monarchy. The men arrive in late June, and land under fierce Mexican resistance, but a small city along the shoreline had been occupied and is now fully under the control of the French.

Along with their Mexican Expedition, the French Navy sends a massive amount of supplies to the Confederate States. Mistakenly, the French Navigators misunderstand Baltimore, Maryland for Norfolk, Virginia. After a show by the locals, the French are convinced that this port is in Virginia, and off load all of their supplies. As the French leave, they are horrified to see the American flag once again wave high over the Harbour Master's House, as well as the discovery that they were being led out of the Harbour by two large ships of the United States Navy.

However, while the supply ships were a complete disaster, the French Navy got it correct when finally landing in Charleston, South Carolina with a diplomatic ambassador to be sent to Montgomery, Alabama to establish the French Embassy. Along with the ambassador, came the offering a trade agreement which was promptly signed between the two nations. [+3 Trade Balance for the CSA. +2 Trade Balance for France.]

In Brazil, a huge backlash by powerful and influential Aristocrats occurs, after the Brazilian Legislature passes an act, officially asking the public to consider the Liberation of the Empire's slaves. The resulting upheaval angers many, but the issue of slavery has been brought up, and it is slightly successful in turning some of the opinions against slavery.

Another bill passed by the Brazilian Legislature advocated for a massive amount of funds to be allocated for education reform, and the establishment of factories. The angry aristocrats, however, see this, as well as the attack on slavery, as a threat to their power, and threaten to shut the country down if these crazy ideas are not shelved and no longer discussed. The Aristocrats do, however, support the passage of a bill allowing the Brazilian Government to officially recognize the Confederate States of America and establish an embassy in Montgomery. In Argentina, talks between Bartolomé Mitre and Urquiza result in a successful deal. For the handsome bribe of a couple million dollars, Bartolomé Mitre would end the conflict between Buenos Aires and the Argentine Confederation and willingly rejoin the Confederation. [-£200 from Argentina.]

With news of the end of the State of Buenos Aires, the entire country broke out in jubilation. Santiago Derqui, the President of the Argentine Confederation, gave a large and grand speech, saying he wished to see infrastructure improve, as well as a call for all immigrants to come to Argentina, offering good, cheap land for cattle raising. This caused an immediate backlash from existing cattle farmers, fearful that immigrants will take their job, and quickly formed a political party overwhelmingly against immigrants. [-£100 from Argentina. -1 Stability from Argentina.]

Up north in Colombia, the civil war rages on, with rebels assaulting, and getting badly blunted, the capital of Bogota. Loosing the first battle, the rebels retreat into the mountains where the Colombian army soon follows, marching westwards towards the Pacific Ocean. Cities and towns are recaptured by Government forces, sending the Rebels into a spiraling retreat, where they hold in and bunker down, well off and hidden. At the same time, Colombian ships begin to leave the Pacific Ports once again towards Dai Nam, on a trading agreement. [+1 Trade Balance for Colombia.]

However, with the rebellion starting to tamper out, the Federal Government calls on all the states to give up some of their local autonomy to combat it, but despite Government reassurances, and the recent bargaining for a small strip of land on the Isthmus of Panama to the United Kingdom, several states openly protest the Government and refuse to cooperate. [-1 Stability from Colombia. OTL Panama Canal Zone transferred to the Untied Kingdom.]

Africa

In Africa, the South African Republic rises to prominence after a heavy-handed approach to diplomacy is taken, where the President aggressively appeals to all the Boer Republics in South Africa to rally behind the South African Republic, only one, the Orange Free State, answers his call and established much close ties with them. [Orange Free State in the South African Republic's sphere.]

Constant native attacks plague work on a new national railroad system, but the South African Republican Army is able to keep them at bay, and hold them off. Construction continues at normal pace. [-£50 from South African Republic. +1 Infrastructure to SAR in 3 turns.]

Asia

In Asia, the country of Dai Nam, just recently coming off of a war with the French, massively angers the local population after the government signs trade agreements with Colombia, the Confederate States, The Chinese, the Dutch, and the Russians. While the economy of Dai Nam massively increases, a pro-isolationist rebel faction emerges in South and Central Dai Nam, 120,000 strong, with the intent of over throwing the government for plunging onto the world stage. Over in Iran, the government announces a new program to expand the Bureaucracy to help out the nation. After little debate, a massive expansion of the bureaucracy was implemented. The Iranian government had hired over three thousand new workers, but the aide to education and tax collection shot up massively, allowing for a more effective government. [-£150 from Iran. +£10 to per turn Tax Income for Iran.]

Several schools are established in Northern Iran by the Government. Their goal is to actually offer traditional and western-style teachings to any students interested. Although a small uproar is made about the inclusion of Western influences in Iran, it is quelled quickly by the Government.

The Ottoman Empire experienced a very healthy growth in support for a modernization reform as outlined by the Sultan, with many people even openly advocating for such an idea. Many thought that this would be a very good thing for the Ottoman Empire to embrace. [+1 Stability to the Ottoman Empire]

In Anatolia, the Izmir-Aydin railway, under joint French-British Construction, resumes full speed once again as the workers once again struck a deal with the Government overseers. [+1 Infrastructure to be completed in 6 turns.]

In Japan, a new railway line was started between Tokyo and Kyoto. At the same time, a government-run factory was opened in Tokyo, causing for a fairly small backlash against the Emperor, but it soon died down once they saw what these belching buildings could produce. New goods from a trade deal with Korea flood into Tokyo, allowing a few things to be much cheaper for the average Japanese. [+2 trade balance for Japan. -£250 from Japan. +1 Infrastructure and +2 Industry to be completed in 3 turns.]

What works in Japan, didn't work in China. After spending a massive amount of money on both industry and a railway, both efforts fail miserably due to lack of will and rampant corruption in the Qing government. The only good thing of the whole ordeal is that the Qing forces have reoccupied the city of Suzhou from the Taiping forces. Further anger against the emperor is created when he held a huge lavish regalia, where all he did was enjoy and feast upon the luxury of western-style cake. [-£150 from the Qing.]

The Dutch also try at building a railroad in Java between their colonial officers, but this venture quickly falls apart. Instead, a telegraph line is put up along the old route of the proposed railway. Due to this, communication on the island will be much faster. Although VERY costly, the Dutch feel like this is an important addition to the Dutch East Indies. [+1 Colonial Infrastructure to be completed in 5 turns.]

The Spanish Empire manages to over extend their troops in the Philippine Garrison just a little more, and successfully establishes its colonial dominance over an abundance of new islands in the South Pacific.

Europe

The King of Sweden announces a new series of much needed reforms across the nation. New legislation is drafted that reduce both the spending and taxes in the nation, equaling out the income the government would receive in the cuts. The economy is also left to a series of deregulations. This new initiative quickly makes Sweden an economic magnet, as new business pours in, so does more capital for the Government. [Sweden receives +£5 increase per turn revenue.]

To the East in Russia, the Tsar announces the formation of a new railroad line stretching from St. Petersburg to Moscow, and from St. Petersburg to Kiev. He also announces that a new series of railroads and canals will be built in the near future to help with the process of industrializing the Russian Empire. [+1 Infrastructure to be built in 3 turns.]

In the Netherlands, a building project, mostly unknown, is tied up in the government bureaucracy and never really takes off. Instead, a corrupt official uses the bill to line his pocket with some money. [-£5 from the Netherlands.]

The Austrian Empire faced a serious attack on its ability to govern its people effectively in May of 1861. Kaiser Franz Joseph I, in an effort to combat nationalism, creates a National Senate, with universal suffrage to all males in the Empire, and its rules clearly state it allows anyone, regardless of ethnicity or background, to enter the Senate. While this looked good on paper, it did not in reality. After a fierce election in Slavonia, a group of Serbian peasants were elected to the Senate, and immediately shut out by the German nobles who held seats in the new Senate. Disenfranchised, the Serbians returned home where they began to preach for a general uprising against Hapsburg Rule. [-2 Stability from Austria]

The Prince of the Austrian Empire, Rudolf, was given a new, highly liberal, tutor. This new tutor was ecstatic at being given the job to teach the young prince the ideals of liberalism and install a "lasting sense" into him. Several Austrian nobles express their distaste for this action, the nobles of Tyrol seem to be the most agitated by the Austrian Emperor's action.

In Prussia, Kaiser Wilhelm I announced that a new division of elite Prussian Regulars were to be raised in the capital city of Berlin. Accompanying his announcement was a stirring call to rally for industrialists and workers. The Prussian Government began to fund the construction of several factories in the greater Berlin area. [+2 to industry in 5 turns.]

Furthermore, in the same speech, the Kaiser talked about the need for more rapid communications, and with this announcement, he proclaimed the existence of a new Government Company, with their intent on bringing a national telegraph service for the nation. [+1 to infrastructure in 3 turns.]

Tensions remain high between the Kingdom of Bavaria and the Kingdom of Prussia after the conference of German states, with the intent on building a centralized German state, without the inclusion of Prussia and Austria.

Over in England, things began to turn from bad to worse. Wealthy abolitionists and many capitalists begin to abandon their bonds and stocks in the British Government over their support for the Confederate States. The national income of the British Empire declines during this three month period, nothing serious, but it shows that an already serious dent has been put into the British Empire for supporting the cause of Slavery. [-£50 from the per turn income of the United Kingdom.]

The British Royal Navy also saw a massive funding increase, even though there was a dramatic shift in the income of the United Kingdom, Queen Victoria herself demanded that the Royal Navy be over-funded, new construction started and the Navy made more powerful. [-£350 from the United Kingdom. 15 large ships under construction to be ready in 4 turns.]

In Denmark, the King lays out an ambitious plan for industrialization that is generally supported by the population. In doing so, he also proclaims his support for the United States in their current war against the rebelling states. A small rifle factory begins construction in Jylland, set to finish in a few months time. [+2 industry to Denmark in 3 turns.]

I apologize to the good Germans of the Empire for my bought of temporary insanity. Obviously the lower classes are not yet politically mature enough to hold office. I will remedy this quickly. I also encourage the Serbians to stop these talks of uprising. I do not endorse the actions of the German nobility, I find their actions not quite unexpected. From now on, only those who own land or businesses will be able to vote or hold office. Obviously Austria is not yet ready for radical reforms.

OOC: I actually figured that would happen.

I ask that the country's aristocracy reconsiders that position, if slavery ends up being abolished, we will offer partial compensation for the losses of the slaves, combined with lower taxes on exportation of their products.
Again, the issue of industrialization seems to trouble their minds, we are in 1861, the only way for a country to thrive is by industrializing and modernizing, the education and industrialization efforts have nothing to do with curbing their power, but instead on building a stronger economy that will even benefit them...as the population will be able to consume more products.

We are troubled by the US involvement in South America...

OOC : Nice Update, everything went badly for Brazil tough :(
Also, is my aristocracy insane or what? this is not OTL in 1889 where the emperor lacked the will to restore himself to the throne...I doubt that they can do that kind of move...Bad thing that i probably don't have nearly as much popularity as i would have around 1880-1889...
At least i am on the generation where the army had ideals of loyalty and all that...no way they are betraying me now, not after the orders i'm going to send :p

I really need to deal with these bastards soon...

The Argentine Confederation is in great joy that our nation is once again whole and united, with internal peace and without any blood loss.
It is now a time to look upon ourselves and unleash our full potential.
We are sparsely populated and have plenty of land for any honorable men willing to work and rise by his own merits and effort. Contrary to the belief of some citizens, the more output of our prime economic commodities: wheat and cattle, that we have , the more prosperity for all citizens. Our land is rich and has enough wealth for all. Increased labor supply will lead to higher output and a more dynamic economy that will certainly propel us to the place we deserve.
We now also seek trade ties around the world. The Spanish offer has not gone unnoticed and we are open to a trade agreement, but don't feel the need to enter into any exclusive economic zone yet. The USA investment into our country will surely render economical benefits for both of us. We also wish closer economical ties with Clombia and Brazil

OOC: Great update! Damn xenophobic gauchos! At least by reintegrating Buenos Aires I expect to receive a good boost in my economy...

OOC: I guess I will have to somehow kill Lee, he is too good of a general.

OOC: Fantastic update!

Am I at war with rebels? If so can I get some extra orders? :)

Also, will you be updating the country statistics?

Almost too good. I fear Frymonmon won't be able to write such a long and detailed updates every week, because of time investment it requires. Nevertheless, great work.
