In accordance with the Treaty of Versailles, His Majesty's Government presents the following treaty, already approved privately with the main parties involved after consultation with them.

OOC: France, Germany and Italy have already signed in PM, but Ill let them add their signatures to this by themselves.
OOC: As I said in PM, so long as the GM verifies this costs me no more land than is already being lost in the Versailles treaty it is signed so this IC post only applies if that is true. :)

[X] Napoleon III Emperor of the French

The French people make no demands upon the Spanish people. Our government policy is to seek peace along the lines already agreed to with the coalition. Though it seems a futile gesture we again offer to sign peace with Spain along those lines. We cannot even offer over some of their demands as Catalonia is not ours to rule and as such we could not sign those people over no matter what sort of demands the Spanish government makes. They might as well demand the entire US east coast from us as we have just as much legal right to offer it in a peace treaty. We are even willing to make a special side deal offering up ships if they sign the treaty so that we may have peace but beyond that we simply seek the peace already agreed to with others.

We have not demanded Catalonia from the French. They are a sovereign nation and we recognize their authority over the territories in France's ante bellum borders, with the exception of the Algerians, who have recognized the Kingdom of Spain as their legitimate rulers.
Catalonia is yours to rule, until you accept the Treaty of Geneva, which intends to take French territory and create an independent nation, and we oppose such treaty by principle.

Now, if you were to speak of La Invicta, that area is under Spanish rule already, and therefore we do not have to demand it from anyone. We have sovereignty over La Invicta, affirmed in international treaties signed by nations who now seek to go back on the words of their ancestors.

The demands of the Kingdom of Spain are simple, and do not involve La Invicta or the French formerly Aragonese and Navarran lands, about which we accept France's sovereignty. They are not an issue in contention, despite your best efforts to hoodwink the international community into thinking it is.

The Kingdom of Spain demands the cession of Algeria, whose representatives, nominated by the Algerian people, have chosen to join the Kingdom of Spain, and volunteered to help our forces against the French Imperialists, and we recognize their decision. We remind that the so-called representatives of the Catalan people who declared the annexation of the lands in the former region of Catalonia into France had to be escorted by French Guards throughout the streets of Barcelona and Valencia, such was the support for French-paid traitors, whereas any Spanish man is free to walk through Oran without escorts or arms, threat of banditry aside.

The Kingdom of Spain also requires indemnities to damage caused to the people of La Invicta, during French occupation. If France's concern about the people of La Invicta is truthful, then they should not believe this to be an unfair demand.

Last, the Kingdom of Spain requires two of the newest French large ships, to make up for damages which have rendered some of our ships unfit for further duty.

OOC: It costs you Roussillon, I believe.

OOC: It costs you Roussillon, I believe.
OOC: He said he clarified it with the GM beforehand. I just want final GM clarification. And no clue why you think reissuing the same demands changes anything.

OOC: I dropped out the marriage, out of sympathy for Infanta Isabel. Wasn't that what you've been doing in the last pages?

OOC: Why in gods name are you still asking for peace on your terms when France has just signed a document stating they support the creation of Catalonia?

Could some of the diplomatic bickering move to China, please? Pretty boring over here!

OOC: Well Diplomacy is rather Simple Over here. Everyone tries to grab a peace of me and your an unrecognised Rebel state of Christian Heretics there isn't much to be diplomatically Bickering about. (Unless you count that Boer Declaration which seemed to be supporting you no ones on your side properly anyway. Equally I've no on my side)

OOC: I wonder why Lincoln hasn't commited suicide yet.

OOC: I'm guessing there are ships filled with French hookers being sent to a lot of countries to get them to condemn me for wanting to preserve my land. Seriously, the scale of the cheating here defies my attempts to come up with examples. The kidnapping of the Sabines doesn't express it accurately enough, but it comes close.

To sum things up for those that haven't followed this.

1) Britain comes up with a peace proposal that we all agree about.
2) Britain starts negotiating with France without the presence of Spanish diplomats, and after "bargaining", they claim themselves masters of Catalonia, in an act which defies all international law and good sense, and as masters of Catalonia, they decide to negotiate it away. That's like me going to a poker game, and start betting with the chips of others. France agrees.
3) Spain questions English right to negotiate something which is not their property, and gets told by France and England that the deal is made and Catalonia had to be ceded, and so, as masters of Catalonia, they made that call for me.
4) France says that I am a warmonger and imperialist for questioning the British claim to be masters of Catalonia and decide it's fate, after they previously declared the annexation of Catalonia into the French Empire.
5) A dozen or so nations say that France is right and call me imperialist and jingoist for not giving away Catalonia.

Sorry, this is plainly ridiculous and could never happen in real life. Napoleon should be assassinated by the Catalans.

OOC: Sounds like the perfidious Albion's just being perfidious as usual. Really, in this era, Great Powers involving themselves in the business of the lesser nations and making treaties on their "behalf" without even deigning to speak to them is normal. Spain is still smarting about Olivença, the transfer of which to Portugal without consulting Spain was the reason Spain didn't sign the final treaty for two years, and they still maintain de facto control over it even today. Even without signing that peace treaty, though, Spain wasn't capable of invading Portugal or France. In the Balkans, the Great Powers all marched in after San Stefano and overrode the original treaty to make it more favorable to the balance of power, even though they never fought in the war at all; Bulgaria wasn't even included in the new round of negotiations. Even earlier, the British, French, and Russians banded together and decided (also without Greek input) that the new Greek state would be a monarchy, with a candidate of their choice. Sure, it may be ridiculous from a Spanish viewpoint IC, but as far as the era is concerned, from an OOC perspective and from the IC perspectives of the other nations, it's just business as usual.

es, I'm not saying that they can't attempt that, hell, that's pretty much the basis for 19th century UK. I'm just saying it is utterly despicable and should be condemned by the international community, attempting to set it against the United Kingdom, while simultaneously defending the prestige of Spain, which was on a decline. It will be fun to see how this develops out.

There's also the matter of how would the independence movements in British lands would see Britain releasing other countries while repressing their desires for independence.

IC in a bit.

OOC: It was you descion do declare war. And your reason is laughable. You must face the consequences for your actions

OOC: Hey, at least I kept my word.

OOC: Isn't the adding of OOC not worth double posting? :p
