Indeed, how can you allow yourself to attempt to retake Cuba?

His Majesty's Government was not aware that Cuba now consisted of Havana and a tiny piece of land at the West of the island. We apologise if our geographic knowledge is flawed.

Furthermore, we are glad to have one with as much expertise in the field as a Spanish Monarch to point out potential insanity. It is good to know that our mental health is in expert hands.

The Moroccan Sultan is becoming worried that the Spanish Leader may becoming slightly out of touch with Reality and might need a long rest while a replacement takes over the running of the country if only to help preserve the Spanish nation which seems to be suffering under the current leader who is now showing signs of instability.

The Federation of Northern Central America condemns the actions of the Spanish governor of Cuba. If one cannot trust people to behave properly and do as they say, then it is no point attempting to avoid bloodshed, is there? These actions set a dangerous precedent if left uncondemned.

On a related note, we are curious as to what the intentions of the United States of America are in regards to the Caribbean islands. While we have a positive view of the liberation of our Caribbean brethren from the Spanish, we are not entirely sure what to make of the possible situations which could arise.

OOC: Basically, do you intend to annex the islands or set up independent states?

Guys, really? If someone invades you, you do *everything* possible to fend him off.

OOC: You've got to have manners! Besides, did you even read my post and the reasons behind me condemning that?

Tell that to the people of Georgia and the "total war" you conducted.

OOC: Eh, Georgia was fair game. It wasn't a sneaky tactic, and they were rebels. Rebels don't have rights ;)

I thank the international community for it's condemnation of the Spanish trickery. The future of Cuba is yet to be decided. When a proper civilian government is formed, dialogue will commence between us on how best to proceed.

OOC: Ever heard of honour? It was kinda a big thing in this time period.

The Spanish have yet again showed their lack of honour, with their sneaky strategy against the brave Americans on Havana.
We send our condolences to the American families, i am sure that your government will make the Spanish pay for what they have done.

We support the American liberation of the Spanish colonies, they have proved to be flawed administrators with no sense of honour or justice.

The point? This is the 19th century - it's full of nastiness. Such a large outrage over a tactical trick while fending off invaders doesn't fit quite well.

OOC: Nastiness sure, but trickery against fellow civilised peoples? It's unheard of!

Also, reis, I don't really get your point. This isn't Shogun Total War or EU3 either.

OOC: This certainly isn't pointless. This certainly isn't simple OOC spam, something y'all could use the IRC for.

OOC: Though, to be fair, it is an era where nations felt so strongly about this sort of this stuff, they actually got together and made a bunch of rules on how to fight a "clean" war, including banning perfidious surrenders. It's not for another five decades, but that's the sort of thought that went around in this era; for that matter, the perfidy (in its technical use) of the Havana governor and resultant devastation of the city could become a defining event that inspires the Hague accords in-game. For that matter, this era was one that glorified the ideal of the medieval era. Actual medieval warfare was a lot dirtier than Victorian dreams about medieval warfare.

Rounding up the Boers and putting them all in fortified camps? Sure. Setting up machine gun posts and mowing down the savages as they attempt to defend their homes against your rapacious advance gentle and enlightened rule? Par for the course. Claiming to surrender, then knifing the other person in the back? Oy...consider yourself lucky if the enemy ever accepts a surrender from you again.
