Day/Night 2​

Camperdown was well served by its administrators, and its citizenry certainly understood that the God-Emperor helps those who help themselves. Evidence of the Taint on the proud world was shameful, and its people would act to erase it, whatever the cost. The local paramilitia assisted the relative handfuls of Arbites on random house-to-house searches, sweeping rapidly through cities and towns, bursting through doors and upending lives in a hunt for the followers of the Dark Gods.

Sergeant Douglas Parts of the Camperdown PDF was enjoying some R&R when the random sweeps picked him up. Drunk as a Lord of Terra and wandering a disreputable district of the capital, the was reason to suspect him of Slaaneshi tendencies, like the odious Frankis Falc. Many had been seized in similar circumstances, out for some revelry and lechery, then released when nothing particularly suspicious stood out. The unfortunate Sergeant Parts, however, had the misfortune of being poorly educated. Courage he had, and even in the face of the Arbites he hardly quailed, but his lack of proper education in the catechisms of the Imperial cult worked against him. Unable to prove himself a true God-Emperor fearing man, the Arbites handed him over to the Chasteners. By the time his interrogators were convinced of his innocence, Sergeant Parts was so horribly tortured that he succumbed to his wounds.

The random searches weren't wholly a failure, however, as one of the door-smashing episodes burst into what was clearly part of a larger Genestealer cult. Boris, an embittered mercenary, had once been a faithful servant of the Imperium, at least as far as a gun-for-hire can be. But somewhere along the line he'd become infected with Genestealer DNA, and now he was a puppet of the horrible mongrel race. Shrieking in anger, what had once been a feared mercenary known as "Boris the Bitter" became "Boris the Biter", as he laid his inhumanly large fangs into the neck of the nearest Arbitrator. The hapless Jan de Winter's head was all but severed by the bite, and there was no power in the Imperium that could revive him once his comrades had felled the monster.

The butcher's bill for the day was not complete yet, however. Duncan St June, an unlucky street urchin who lived a meager existence off the alms of the parish, was discovered in the morning, beheaded and left outside the temple where he usually begged for charity. The mark of Tzeentch was carved onto his chest before he died, for the Untouchables are anathema to the Changer of Ways.
