Yes indeed, this is the East Indies provinces, which is 'represented' by the island of Java. Most off-map boxes you see have a different 'scale' from the European map, much larger (so game tempo there will be slightly different)

What happens when you force a nation to surrender? Will you be able to make various demands on that nation? Crown of Glory had an interesting model. You were awarded points depending on how effectively you defeated a nation which you could spend on various demands such as peace for x years, demand territory, ect.
