I am sorry for it, but i *have* to retire as Pacific Theater Commander. The fact that I don't have FTM is one that has been annoying, and so impossible to do anything which I am supposed to have done. I will continue as a Senator.

I accept your resignation with sincere regret.

President Willkie

((If anybody wants the spot, please let me know here in the thread. Saithis, would you mind serving as interim Commander?))

Err... Avindian, you forgot something... I took Senator of Georgia about a page ago and you didn't record it.

The budget plans for the Army for 1941 have been filed, as well as a major reconstruction and modernization project of the Army. These plans can be requested at my desk by the Generals in command of a theater, as they will have to supply recommendations for COs of all units.

"I have forwarded all production, research and naval distribution plans to the President. If war comes, then by God we'll be ready."

~Admiral William H. Standley, Chief of the Naval Staff

"I am currently discussing affairs with my staff to determine the best approach to the Pacific Theatre at war. If the Senate approves, I think it would be prudent (and Admiral Nimitz agrees) to garrison the Philippine Islands immediately. We believe an attack from Japan could be imminent at any time due to our increased buildup and threatening position. If we start now, we could begin the process of shipping the US Fifth Army to the Philippines. This would ensure that our ally does not fall to Imperial Aggression and that if we end up at war with Japan, we will have a strong base and troops already present and ready for the war. This move would also involve reinforcing garrisons at Guam and Wake Island, to ensure that US Home Territory in Hawaii and the West Coast remains untouched. I know, however, that we are not yet at war, and if the Senate disapproves of shipping US troops overseas prematurely, they should say so before plans go into action."

~General Omar Bradley, Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Theatre

Hi all, I've been reading the aars on here for a few days, and finally decided to join the site. I really like this AAR, and would like to join.

((I've been lurking for a while, seems fun))

I would like to thank the people of Texas for choosing me, Prescott Bush, as their next Senator in the special election. They obviously want an Independent who won't be swayed by the major parties and will vote for what is right for the citizens of the United States. I am a staunch defender of democracy and advocate direct intervention to aid democracies anywhere in the world when threatened by the rising threats of the Axis and Coimterm. The United States cannot sit back and watch the world burn. We are a nation of immigrants and European affairs are our affairs.

Senator Prescott Bush, (I), TX

((pending acceptance... of course... I vote for scenario 1. We must show the democracies of the world we are on their side and raise their morale. We must, at the same time, strike fear into the hearts of the enemies of democracy with our resolve.))

It's silly to keep the vote going (unless we have a whole bunch of lurkers joining in the next few minutes, or some of the inactive folks become active again), so Scenario 1 -- join the Allies now, the war later -- will be our official policy.

I'm waiting on some OOB stuff to get sorted out, but once it is, I'll have an update for everybody, probably Wednesday.

State of the Union coming soon!

This is an outrage, what right does Italy have to embargo us we are a non-belligerent in this war. We should take immediate action by embargoing any nation which is part of the Axis or closely aligned with the Axis. This outrage cannot go unanswered.

Senator Peter Dawson, D-MD

July State of the Union Address

My fellow Americans,

The war in Europe is at a lull. I think Mr. Hitler realizes that defeating the United Kingdom will not be easy, given his complete failure at sea and our new Lend-Lease Aid to the United Kingdom.

However, as I, like every American, remember the heinous acts of Germany in the previous war with sinking neutral shipping, I have authorized all convoy escorts to open fire in the region below if they are fired upon. I have done this on my authority; I would like Congress to consider extending me the power to further expand our navy's patrol routes if Germany continues to act aggressively.

undeclaredwar.jpg

navalmap.jpg

If we further extend this "Undeclared War", as the papers would have you believe, I would also like to send regular patrols into the region to search for German U-Boats.

The most anti-American Axis power has oddly been the Italians, who embargoed us in January of this year.

italianembargo.jpg

I authorized Director Donovan to carry out covert operations in Italy and Japan, although the results have been less than ideal.

failedcoups.jpg

In any case, I want to thank you all for your support. I know joining the Allies was an unpopular decision for some, but I feel it is the right one. I remind the American people that, despite our trade with the United Kingdom, we are not at war. I cannot imagine this will continue forever, unfortunately, and so Admiral Leahy, my Chief of Staff, has kindly provided the following information on our new Allies, including the naval campaign's successes and failures thus far. He has also attached maps of Asia and Africa as well as our most current Order of Battle.

Thank you, and good night.

OOB (Click to expand; it's way too big to put on the forum directly; this is from the Army Restructuring Tool):

Sunk ships:

shipsunk1.jpg

Total ships lost (as of 7/1/41):

France: 1 DD
Germany: 2 BC, 3 CA, 5 CL, 5 DD, 11 SS, 1 TP
Italy: 4 CA, 8 CL, 16 DD, 1 SS, 4 TP
Nationalist China: 3 CL, 2 DD, 1 TP
New Zealand: 1 TP
United Kingdom: 1 CA, 2 CL, 1 TP
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Stuff to vote on:

1. Extending the "Undeclared War"; we need 15 threat from Germany to pass this (it reduces our neutrality and expands the zone we can patrol).
2. Anything else that catches your fancy. Now would be a good time to discuss grand strategy.

Saithis, I'd like you to work with Tom to draw up plans for patrol missions in the acceptable zone. If we want to get into the war, we'll need to sink some German ships (which should increase threat, I think). Even if it doesn't, I consider it desirable. :) Chiefs, please check the OOB to see if I've messed something up. Feel free to share this in-thread.

Voting and new bills introduction deadline is Saturday at 10 PM CST (-6 GMT).
