Thread: noob questions

I think that you're out of luck unless you want to chase them to the corners of the earth or edit the save file.

I believe in the upcoming second game you can actually gain the title by usurping it if you control at least 50% of the territory.

can you actually get the title, or do you still have to fight for it?

in the same game, i had to launch an invasion of england to fight the king of navarre, england, wales, and aragon after usurping the title of duke of navarre and king of aragon - lands the Jimenez family hadn't truly held for nearly 75 years. it was expensive, shipping units all the way up to merry olde england. probably wouldn't have worked unless the moron hadn't gotten himself excommunicated.

Granada is a muslim title, so you can get if you get by event, though maybe you can also get it through usurping.

But as far as i remember, no.
You either conquer them or wait till they get squashed by the Seljuks or Medina or such emirates, they usually dont have claims on
these titles, so they become free available after the holder is doomed.

Your experience with England sounds very common.

How easy is to inherit a title? Daugthers dont hold titles, and if i marry my daugther to a son of another count/duke, the son of that marriage is going to be of the fathers bloodline.
    Any help?

You want to marry your son to someone else's daughter or sister. Then your grandson will (most likely) be in the line of succession of your daughter-in-law's home court. The trick is to find a ruler without sons or brothers -- or for the unscrupulous, to murder them and get them out of the way.

ALSO, keep marrying into the same family. eventually, you'll get the title.

Or the inbred trait if you're not careful.

Heh. This topic came up in a thread last November, and when I raised this objection, Veldmaarschalk's response was "makes it just more fun." I didn't have an answer for that!

He means the latter. That is, if you're trying to inherit some title the Duke of X, keep marrying sons into daughters of the Duke of X's family. It might take a few generations but eventually something will happen.

enough that you'll encounter it. it happens a lot with larger kingdoms, and whenever a liege gets heretical or excommunicated.

alliances aren't terribly important. also, they end when the either lord dies, so they aren't permanent fixtures.

Another Noob Question: I started playing as Apulia and everything is going peacefull and fine, except for one thing: the loyalty of my courtiers. The ones from my family remain loyal, the other ones have all upped and left. How can you maintain that? I didn't have the money to keep paying them; I imagine there is a more long-term solution anyway?

Loyalty of courtiers depends on your prestige (up to 1000 gives +1), traits of the courtier and yours, family ties, friend/rival and eerrr...i think there's more.

Move your mouse over the loyalty number and it shows.

never, ever, pay your courtiers. it's too expensive.

some of them like you. some of them don't. roll with it.

for ones who don't like you, go on crusade, and make them counts. they'll like you then (usually) as the benefits of being a count and the loyalty bonuses usually more than compensate for personality conflicts.
