We were for centuries, downtrodden and derided, because we are not one people, because we are divided. Let one flag, one hope gather us all, the hour has struck for us to join togheter. Let us gather in a legionary cohort!
Italy has called, we are ready to die!

More than 15 years have passed since the Syndicalist revolution and the Italian civil war. The dream of a united Italian state has been crushed by Austrian interests at the end of the Weltkrieg, and split the Italian peninsula in two unequal halfs. In the south, the Socialist Republic of Italy finds itself engulfed in a scenario of strikes, rampant corruption and mafia penetration in the nation's deepest industrial and political layers.. while in the north, the Kingdom of Italy was re-established, replacing the Italian Federation led by the clergy, by a monarchy ruled by Josef I of Osterreich-Toskana, another tool of the Austrian royal family..

August 16th 1936, Naples, Socialist Republic of Italy

In the second week of August, thousands of exasperated Italians have marched to Naples, from Salerno, from Sicily, from Calabria, from Puglia and Basilicata. They waved the tricolor flag, asking the regime to step down, and restore those constitutional freedoms abolished in the 1921 revolution. The fate of Syndicalism in Italy is at stake, and the crowds of Naples are quickly rounded up by the People's Army, ready to crush the protesters and restore peace. Later in the afternoon, facing increasing pressure, the syndicalist regime unexpectedly released a statement announcing the dissolution of the Socialist Republic of Italy, silently aknowledging the people's demands, and leaving the country once again in the hands of its people and a provisional government with the task of overseeing and monitoring the electoral process scheduled for August 19th. The Italian Republic was born.

August 19th 1936, Naples, Italian Republic

As thousands of Italians rushed to the polling stations, four political parties also ran for the majority in the newly formed parliament: The Christian Democracy, the Liberal Party, the National Movement, and the Labour Party. Unexpectedly, the National Movement won with a crushing majority, over 70% of votes casted during the ballots were expressions of the people's will to be ruled by an expansionist, nationalist and imperialist government.. a clear sign Italians, despite all the suffering caused by the previous regime and the economical and political consequences of the Weltkrieg, were ready to wear Scipio's helmet, and restore, with any means necessary, the glory and the pride of their lost country. As crowds of Italians waved the Tricolor Flag in the streets of Naples, the Kingdom of Italy and their Austrian masters, monitored the situation closely.

So here's the situation. The Italian Republic has a few chances of expansion, which seems to be the only plausible way to asserts itself as a regional player, considering the lack of a developed industry and national resources. But the Republic can count on a fairly developed Navy, despite the country's size, and countries like Albania, Greece, Crete and Libya, might be potential targets when resources and military strenght will make it possible. The Government will also have to open and fix diplomatic relations with Mitteleuropa, and convince them to lift the trade embargos enacted after the syndicalist revolution of 1921. The Republic faces many challenges and dangers, the fate of the Italian people is once again at stake.. will the sons of Caesar survive Austrian interferences? Or will they focus on expansionism in eastern Africa and the Balkans in an attempt to build an extra-peninsular empire, emulating National France? Or will the Republic collapse on the weight of its ambitious plans? Only time will tell....

« You may have the universe if I may have Italy... »

Few months after the establishment of the Italian Republic and the victory of the National Movement, the new regime concentrated its effort on improving the country's military, industrial and agricultural capacities.. but a second reunification seems to be too far ad too hard to achieve right now, and bad news keep coming from the north like thunders in a clear sky. The Austria-Hungary union is still strong, and so is its influence on the Kingdom of Italy. The Chief of the Army is aware a military attack from the North would cripple the Republic's military in a few weeks, and urges the government to increase funds on defense and conscription of new infantry divisions with updated equipment, aswell as a proper fleet to defend the country's coast. In response to the Army's concern, the regime secretly ordered the creation of the "1st Italian Expeditionary Force", a landing force representing the first step in the realization of the Republic's dream to expand its influence and territory.

The new key figures of the pseudo-military government of Italy are considering all avaliable options. While the regime is scratching its head over national issues, the rest of the world seems to be contemplating civil wars and constant involvement of major powers in the affairs of those countries involved in the conflicts. While the Kingdom of Italy publicly supported the Carlist faction in Spain, the Republic's former allies of the Commune of France are concentrating their efforts to aid syndicalism abroad, sending volunteers and resources, aswell as aid packages to those syndicalist regimes willing to fight for the cause.

Meanwhile, North America is torn apart by a continental war, with several factions attempting to assert themself as dominant powers and legitimate successors of the United States of America. This scenario of opportunities prompted several italian mafia men to leave Italy, and find their fortune in the American Union State, a corporate state established in the the south-eastern states of the United States of America. The Regime has condemned any interferences, but considering the lack of resources to properly fight the mafia phenomenon in the country, the exodus of the organized crime seemed to be a gift of divine origin.

Nice updates, will follow.

I do believe you can unify Italy by events? Will you do this or will you prefer not compromise with the north?

Hello and thank you! I will probably wait for the turmoils in the Ottoman Empire, if the game will evolve that way, and attempt to conquer those nations breaking up from Ottoman rule like Libya, Cyprus, Albania, etc. When my industrial capacity will make it possible, i can think about plans to challenge the austro-hungarian empire and the Kingdom of Italy in the north

Awesome! Never seen a Italian Republic AAR

It's 1938... 38 like 38C°! The fever! The fever which the italian revolution has given to history. Everyone are bustled with burgeois blinders talking only about Germany and France, but the voice of the Italian Regime stands bold out of the crowd: "Italy has the right to expansion across the mediterranean!". Despite such dangerous and wary statements, it seems like Mitteleuropa and the International blocs are too busy with their saber rattling to care about the imperialist aims of a small and poor southern european nation. In the morning of July 5th, 1938, Tripolitania breaks its ties with the Ottoman Empire and declares complete independence.. renaming the country and changing its national flag.

This, is the chance the Regime was waiting for.. reclaim the lost colonies of Libya, Eritrea and Somalia.. finally the time has come to test Italy's military strenght on a real enemy. And on the eve of July 6th, the Italian Republic declared war on Libya...

After preparations, the Italian fleet left the docks of Taranto with thousands of soldier, ready to reclaim what rightfully belongs to their country. One by one, coastal positions in Libya fall under artillery shells, causing panic and disarray amongst Libyan militias and regular infantrymen. In a few weeks the key coastal cities of Benghazi, Tripoli and Tobruk fall in the hands of the Italian army. Sorrounded and cut from the rest of the country, the Libyan government finally raised the white flag on September 28th in the city of Tripoli.

The Italian Regime immediatly answered with a full and unconditional annexation of the country, as new infantry divisions poured on the sands of Libya to restore order and peace among local berber tribes...

Great move by Southern Italy in Libya! I hope you can succeed in your campaign to build Italian imperial holdings and hopefully eventually reunify Italy into one Nation State.

Good update.

Going to Libya before Rome I see. Bah, we need the Empire back anyway. Best of luck to you.

« The dice is cast.. »

Few months after the annexation of Libya, the Republic enjoyed an unprecedented level of wealth and industrial capacity.. enough to update its land and sea forces to embark in another expansionist campaign. But in order to sit around the table of powerful empires, the Republic had to reform itself.. introduce a more militaristic way of life, and so.. the government elected by the people of the 1936 anti-syndicalist revolution, dissolved the Republic and established the New Italian Empire. Republican institutions however, were preserved, aswell as the government cabinet.. but Italy's ambitions were too strong to rest on the aurels.. and on the 22th day of August.. a large Italian fleet was spotted on the western shores of Greece.. near the city of Petra.

The attack began in the morning, without an official declaration of war.. hostilities suddenly erupted like a volcano in a clear sky, and greek forces were not given enough time to prepare a substantial defense. As thousands of Italian soldiers advanced in the Peloponnesus, Greek armies managed to set up a frontline near Corinth.. they waited for the Italian attack, but the attack never occured. Before Greek generals could understand the situation, another Italian fleet was spotted near Athens. In a few hours, facing no resistance from the local population, Italian troops occupied the Greek Capital cutting divisions in Corinth from the rest of the army.. the Greek government, facing increasing pressure, and to avoid a catastrophe.. had to unconditionally surrender after only 8 days of war, and accept the annexation proposal of the Italian regime.

In February 1940, six infantry divisions were massed on the border between Greece and Albania. Counting on the inefficiency and impreparation of Albanian land forces, the Italian army launched a full ground offensive in southern Albania. Albanian cities and towns fell under italian control, without facing any resistance until armies engaged on the southern border of the province of Tirana. Albanian outdated infantry divisions were no match for the Generals of the greek campaign, and in less than one month, the Albanian government unconditionally surrendered, and the Regime proclaimed the full annexation of Albania by the New Italian Empire.

THE ITALIAN EMPIRE, 1940

Who will be the next target? Only time will tell.. but rumors talk about large movements and deployments on the borders between Egypt and Libya.. new armored and cavalry brigades were being conscripted while Italian intelligence services launched covert operations on Egyptian soil. The Regime is aware an Egyptian campaign will be nothing like Greece, Libya or Albania.. as Egypt can count on a fairly advanced army, both in numbers and equipment. Will Italy be ready when the day will come? One year later, in August 1941, the day had finally come..

Are those Italien Empire events already in? Or have you made them? Would be awesome to see them in KR otherwise!

I made the "Italian Empire" event myself, first attempt at modding!

Cool! You are very welcome to our forum! I really like the idea of an Italian Empire! You could help us developing it! :D

Oh i didn't notice you are in the Kaiserreich Team! I'd be very happy to see more events for republican italy aswell as a full story and development of a "new italian empire", the idea came to my mind when i noticed many of the government cabinet of the italian republic as "authoritarian democratic" were members of the fascist regime in the 30's. I'd love to see implemented a new path after the "anti-syndicalist" revolution in southern italy, whereas after democratic elections, a militarist counter-revolution occured and started the quest for the creation of the italian empire, after the annexation of Libya (or Libya and Greece, or Libya and Greece and Albania).

A scale of required events would be like this:

1. Conditions for the Anti-syndicalist revolution in southern italy to occur
2. Anti-Syndicalist Revolution - A. Crush the revolution, B. Give up to demands
3. Democratic Elections - A. Party 1, B. Party 2, C. Party 3, D. Party 4
4. Militarist State Coup - A. Stop the state coup B. Let the army take over the country
5. Some war preparation events, like industrial improvements or new infantry divisions

And then a chain of events to coincide with the Libyan-Ottoman War and the independence of Albania... unfortunately i'm not good at modding or i would have done that myself a long time ago :(

And then when the Roman Empire is quite big, perheps an conference between the two nations trying to settle an unification for an stronger, united Roman Empire!

The discussion can happen here

I am curious about what North Italy is thinking seeing their southern Italian brothers getting the glory of their own empire? Perhaps it will be time to reunify Italy by force? (plus it would be neat to see how their army and yours fare against each other)
