Venice has 3 provs left in europe with no way to expand. The smart thing as venice is to make deals with OE/Austria about taking the islands in the mediterranean and sharing aquilea, so he has a powerbase. Which he didnt do. Additionally Venice managed to offend Milan as well and has little to no chance of surviving in europe.

I intervened diplomatically in this war cause i dont want to see venice die without having a chance to move abroad or do something about this situation.
