Part XXXII: News are worsening

Yugoslavia was in terrible situation. In spite of the fact that it was trained and supplied by Russian military specialists, Royal Army was too small and weak to fight on equal terms with Italy and Germany. Add to this Axis satellites - Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria - and it will help you to understand that Yugoslavians had no chances.

Royal army of Yugoslavia on march

German invasion destroyed their lines of defense very soon. Russian expeditionary forces (mostly aviation) fought together with their Slavic brothers - but it didn't help. Luftwaffe was dominating in the air.

Destroyed Belgrade

Romanian, Hungarian and Bulgarian armies attacked the Yugoslav border too. Very soon the country had to capitulate. The king and his family fled to St. Petersburg, where he was met by the Emperor Alexis II. Russian tsar promised Yugoslav king to return his country to him when Germany would be defeated...

Yugoslav army surrendered. Officially the country was annexed by Romania, but soon it would be divided between Axis members.

19 of November - Yugoslavia falls

But Yugoslav soldiers didn't surrender - they promised to continue their fight for king and country. One of such leaders was Dragolub Mihailovic, a former general of RAoY. He created a partisan organization called "The Chetniks".

Cetniki - Yugoslav partisans, who refused to surrender

Russia was terrified by fast fall of their only European ally. But Wrangel's government had to defend Russia itself, so it wasn't right time to be depressed. Russia had to fight! Manchurian campaign was slowly transforming into a big stalemate - on 20 of November general Belozor was defeated and had to retreat from Hegang.

They won that battle

To keep the front balanced, Semenov decided to attack the southern part of Japanese colonial empire - Korea. 42th Corps (Enborisov) and 35th Corps (Ungern von Sternberg) attacked Yanji, while 34th Corps (Kalmykov) and 41st Corps (Kirienko) marched onto Harbin. That operation had two targets - to secure the Korean border (to capture Korea faster) and to push the Japanese deeper.

Operation in Southern Manchuria will give us an ability to occupy Korea

General Semenov

Bulgarian operation was a failure. Germans launched a successful counter-offensive and recaptured Adrianople. Russian corps in Burgas was encircled. Constantinople was in danger.

Bad situation in Bulgaria

On the main - Polish - theater victories were seldom, too. Wrangel himself took command of defensive operation in Wloclawek - but it didn't change anything. Russian corps, led personally by the Commander-in-Chief, was tragically losing.

Evacuation from Wloclawek

News from the Far East were a little better - Japanese were about to lose Yanji. General Ungern was capable and knew the region of Manchuria well.

On 30 of November an attempt to break the blockade of Adrianople failed. Russian commanders had to stop the counter-offensive due to harsh casualties.

One of desperate attacks of Russian infantry

Wrangel was deploying more and more troops to Wloclawek, but they didn't have enough time to prepare for the fight. His German opponent was defeating divisions one by one. Russian army managed to transfer 12 divisions to the fighting province. Result was miserable.

Wrangel tries his best and makes some minor successes, but the whole situation is very dull

I don't like it how you handicapped yourself. All in all the current course of WWII is totally unrealistic and improbable.

I hope the Turkish eagerly forge their plans to hit back- that would make my dream come true- a second caucasian front :D
@KotoR45: Yeah good old KOTOR times, I whish they would come back

Fight for god, fight for victory!fight for the russian empire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mason-jewish-communazi conspiracy! :O

anyway i just remmembered about helicopter developer - Sikorsky - since there was no revolution, thus he didn't leave, thus you should have first helis by 1930, first heli transports by 1935, first assault helis by 1940? besides murrica is backwards greatly now without russian scientists :p :D
(those asssaults helis... they could be a tactical surprise and terror to germans like OTL t34 :) )

I'd try some amphibious distraction operations in Romania and Bulgaria - perhaps they won't change the overall outcome, but would prevent the Axis from redeploying all their forces from the Balkans to Poland...

Chapter Five: 1941
Part XXXIII: America makes the move

December of 1941 began with one more defeat in the Far East - Russian assaulting forces didn't manage to break through the Japanese defense in Butehaqi

Bitter fighting led to nothing

In China itself the things weren't better - the Japanese entered Tanjin triumphantly.

Tanjin is lost

In Europe Axis was dividing newly-conquered Yugoslavia. Parts of former Yugoslavian territory were passing from one aggressor to another.

Italian soldiers have fun in Yugoslavia

In Poland Russian Imperial Air Force started regular attacking raids on the enemy positions. Russian aviators were as professional as German ones, and Germans were stormed from the sky. These attacks should help the Russian army to defend their positions.

High Command clearly realized that it wasn't possible to only defend - Russian army had to launch effective counterattacks to compete with the Wehrmacht on equal terms. One of such attacks was launched on 3 of December - Shaposhnikov led Warsaw Military District and 7th Army Corps on Czestochowa.

Russian soldiers prepare for the attack

On 7 of December Germans lost Adrianople - it was a good opportunity to save encircled Russian troops in Burgas.

Axis forces retreat from Adrianople

On the same day Manchu armies recaptured Hegang - it was an impressive step, and quite dangerous for the whole Far Eastern theater...

Setback in Manchuria

But the Russians didn't let their enemies to easily keep Hegang in their hands. A day later Russian armies started an offensive, in which 2 Japanese divisions looked really weak.

Russian artillery in Manchurian forests

While Japanese were fighting against Russians, the USA made a historical step - president Roosevelt declared war upon Germany and Japan. He said that he had no other chance to defend America against Nazism and Japanese aggression. "We will fight together with the free world!" - said the President.

America joins the war!

Germans were worried with such events. Hitler ordered his general to "finish campaign in the East" as soon as possible. Wehrmacht continued attacking, facing Russian frost and Russian bullets, but with success - talanted German commanders were better in attacking than their Russian opponents were in defending...

December, 9 - German offensive on Wloclawek - 5 divisions are beating 12.

German positions in Poland

Iraqi campaign was a bright spot - Russian tanks, guns and airplanes were destroying more and more German oil every day, making Hitler worry about his tank columns in the East.

Iraq is almost conquered!

By 12 of December defense of Wloclawek was broken. Germans captured the city, general Karbyshev (commander of Wilno Military District) was retreating to Plock.
