Scary reactionaries :)

Congratulations Selzro on your double (sort-of) victory in the AAR-land Awards :D Definitely deserved!

I dread to think what Dalip would think of Socialism...
Something dreadful, I’m sure…

Anarcho liberals must be Killed!
But it’s peasant-hunting season! It’s not their time!

Hmm, why didn't the king visit the nobles?
Because he already go peasant hunting with them?
or *shock* disapprove of that???
They’re pretty much all nobles; the Reactionaries are just more… traditional nobles. And Dalip has had an ambivalent history towards peasant-hunting.

The first time I ever felt pity for Anarcho-Liberals...
Poor Anarcho-Libbies.
Maybe if people could just see how nice a Bourgeois Dictatorship can be, they’d like anarcho-liberalism more… :p

For some reason the fact that all the different parties are color coded brings me great joy.
:)

The Fascists are going to look pretty damn bland.
We’ve got a lot way until Fascists…

Scary reactionaries :)

Thank you! I was actually hoping one of the AARs I voted for would come in first this quarter, since SS hasn’t been updating much recently and it’s already won 5 quarters in a row (including this one). But I’m glad the Hyderabad Holiday Special made such a nice impression on voters.

As the 5-time champion perhaps you should petition for a rule against consecutive wins? :)

Playing catch up here, fantastic AAR. The presentation in exceptional!
Thank you! :)

For others to win they will simply have to write something that is better and get a following the regularly check their AAR :)
The thing is, I think SS enjoys an unfair advantage because of its format; it’s far easier for people to get hooked on a comic (lots of pictures and not much text to go through) than on a text-AAR.

For about half a year now I’ve been thinking of wrapping SS up by 1886 (50 years of gameplay) or sooner. Lately I’ve been leaning towards ‘sooner’, since all the great stories of the rise of India have either been told or are being resolved now (kicking the British out of the subcontinent for good should just be a matter of an easy land war every 5-6 years, and the Chinese Wars are at long last over). This might be feasible by March, which means that in that case SS will only be eligible for one more contest, so no lobbying for the rules to change will be necessary – unless a similarly popular AAR comes along after that.

At any rate, the experiment has been, in many ways, a success. Its only failure was that the time it takes to produce each page did not significantly decrease over time, and I was thus not able to update it on a regular basis (the lack of a buffer of pages also contributed to that), or as quickly as I had at first intended. There are still several pages to go before it's over, but I hope that it has inspired (or will inspire) other AAR writers to try out this format.

Is everything hand drawn? then the time wouldn't diminish much.
On the other hands if they were models the initial time would be larger but each instalment would be faster.

Everything's drawn on the computer by hand, although I usually copy/paste backgrounds or figures to save time (except for the Sublimations. Nothing is ever copy/pasted there). I'm also not using vector graphics, which limits my capacity to easily zoom in and out of objects. To avoid excessive pixelation, each panel is drawn as a 720x540 pixel image, then shrunk down to 50% of its original size. Funnily enough, I think one of the greatest time drains is the speech bubbles. I initially write them on MS Word, judging the ideal line lengths by sight, then take a screenshot of each page of the Word file, draw ellipses over each part of the text, paste those ellipses in the panels (after making the empty space outside them transparent), then draw lines by hand to point the bubbles at each character, zoom in to paint over the border of the ellipse and whatever other black lines from the background are in the way, and then paint the rest white. At least I've developed a solid grasp of the quantity of text I can have in each panel, but even so at times I've had to cover up some background details with the word bubbles, because they wouldn't fit otherwise.

This aar is AWESOME. Keep it up!I'll be sad when the old vizier actually passes away :(.

Anarchists and Socialists have an inflated view of their own importance as per usual. :) I do like how the conservative and reactionary MPs have greyer beards compared to their Liberal, Anarchist and Socialist counterparts.

Dammit, gotta love the reactionaries! :D
Good update!

Congrats on the win! Though if you'd rather your AAR not win, I guess you could ask that it not be counted for in the voting I mean... I don't see why not. :p

Anyways, I can hear the drums of war beating, (If by war you mean lots of yelling and arguing) enjoyed the little bit of faction-forming there. If I understand correctly, it's Gunkaar and the PM vs. Dalip? Hm... Peasant hunting is already in full effect, wonder if Dalip will try to win over the reactionaries somehow?

Poor Anarcho-Liberals...

It'd be hilarious if the Anarcho-Liberals decided things.

I love how Dalip and the PM are both claiming to have more support than they (apparently) have. And is that a gold plate on Dalip's temple?

From when a bullet grazed the side of his head earlier in the AAR.

It'd be hilarious if the Anarcho-Liberals decided things.

Heh, maybe it's a complete stalemate and the A-Ls were the only unaffiliated faction and are the ones to tip the balance... Hm...

I'm a little sad about the end of this AAR actually being a reality in the near future. Although I must admit that it would save you a lot of writing effort having to kill off old but well loved characters. Would still be nice to have some sort of major conclusion to wrap things up like a mainland invasion of Britain with a cut-down-to-size CB and have one of the major characters strolling into the British throne room for a change. Or anything else you can think of that would show punjab and her people coming full circle. I always love conclusions that reflect back on the beginning again.

So, the leader of the conservatives allies with the socialists ? To put some sense on the still conservative PM that allied with the liberals and the formally toothless King that was a pal of the "artists" of Paris that allied with the conservatives? *faint*

So, tell us more about the sane and stable Indian politics :D
