Hmph... I think you should have gone on regardless. Will you get as good an opportunity to destroy the USA again, I worry...

I would have agreed with you if he was predominantly using his own troops, but if he's relying on mobilised reserves, it is probably better for his economy (or whatever constitutes as an "economy" in Mexico) that he WP out.

This AAR has over 10,000 views! Thanks for everyone who contributed to that total, it shows there's some point in me writing this!

Since the likelihood of another war has gone down significantly, I have decided to turn this into an economics-based AAR. Ish.

First thing to do is demobilize.

And now I can sort out my rubbish-thing of an economy.

Ok, one the major parts of my very large deficit is my stockpile. In fact all of my deficit and some to spare. The natural solution to this is to produce the goods for stockpile needs. Why? Because then the money I spend on stockpile needs will go to POPs, and I will get some of that back in taxes. Plus, they will probably spend some money on goods, which will go to other pops, and so I will get some off them via taxes. They will probably spend some of their remaining money on goods, so the money will go to other POPs, who will...... etcetra, etcetra. This will carry on until either someone puts the money in their savings, or they buy goods from another country, in which case the money will go out of my country and 'money system'. Obviously, the less imports the better, so I a) want to get my stockpile needs from inside my country and b) start to produce more goods.[/Economics]

One of my biggest needs is Canned Food, which is all bought from Mexico - but all four of my canned food factories are unprofitable, and the only reason they are still going is subsidies - which is a drain on my deficit. I scribble done some calculations, and work out that while the four of them produce too much to be sold, less would - after all, there is 25.8 that will always be needed. I close down one factory and voila! the rest become profitable. Yay! Unfortunately my crapitalists keep on building Canned Food factories, so this has to be repeated constantly.ta

You will also notice Small Arms is a big need as well. I've been trying to convince my crapitalists to build Small Arms factories, and I suddenly work out why they haven't.

 Well, that's first on my research list.

And peace!

This halves my stockpile needs and deficit:

Yeah, okay, I haven't been managing my budget too well.

And the USA, all of six months after being at war, want me to let it march through my lands.

Dream on.

I invent some very realistic art.

And socialism appears, two years after the first socialist party did.

I get a CB:

Hmm, war with the number one power in the world.... I'm sorry, I just not feeling suicidal today.

Then I get Empiricism and realistic music.

And, for once, peace breaks out in North America.

(sorry, forgot to get a screen of USA/UK WP)

Whether it'll last is a different matter.

Damn and blast that lousy truce!

Now, economics again.

I'll keep this brief. Basically, the only reason I have a deficit is because of interest. Otherwise I'd have a surplus of £100 a day. Must. Get. Rid. Of. Debt.

In your situation, I'd recommend cranking up tariffs in the short term to build up the money to pay off your debt. You might also consider increase taxes on the rich.

I'd drop the stockpile to 50% and tariffs up to 25% to drop down the debt. If you don't control that debt beast it will control you.

Cutting stockpile is a good idea too; that or military spending, if you have a lot of potential brigades you could build but aren't.

Avindian and brycef have given the best possible advice to sort your economy as far as I can tell. Hopefully it will get you back in the black and back to dominating North America!

Yeah, a large part of your deficit is now just paying down the interest on the debt*. You need to raise taxes on the middle class and perhaps the rich and drop your stockpile, and start paying it off. Once it's paid off, your national bank will recover from lending you money, and the sudden influx of cash into your economy will finance a new rash of Canned Food factories (and hopefully, some wineries). Once this is done, you'll be amazed at how much easier it will be to keep the budget under control. Also, researching some techs that improve tax rates will increase the amount of money following into the treasury.

*borrowing money to pay interest on the money you borrowed, like the US government

Researching the "Steam Engine" line of techs might serve you better than those tax techs, if you haven't researched them already.

Like every government really. UK, Italy (which actually would have a surplus if not for interest), Ireland, I don't know any government which is debt-free.

As for Mexico - Military spending is staying where it is :stubborn: but I think I'll follow everyone's advice about cutting stockplie to 50%. Maybe I'll crank up tariffs too.

Make sure to bring the stockpile up to 80% about four months before starting a war so you'll resupply your troops or they'll be yellow at war start, which isn't a good thing.

How about an update while you're at it? :D

Comning right up :D

BTW, thanks to Avindian for voting for this in the Gameplay AARs ACAs and Chris Taylor for voting for this in the... errr... Comedy section. For the rest of you, be happy knowing you were given good reading critical ability when you were born. :D
