LOL, Nebraska should have trained you well.

My father was in the USAF as a C-130 pilot during the 1980s and early 1990s (including the Operation Just Cause and Desert Storm). He is a 757/767 pilot for US Airways now. My cousin is joining the USAF very soon (he has basic training in San Antonio beginning in June, I believe) as a crew chief on the KC-135.

I may look into joining the armed forces after I graduate from college, but we shall see. I am a meteorology major here at NC State, so I could be an Air Force Meteorologist, perhaps! :D

I wish you best of luck, though, and stay safe! :)

I would highly encourage you to sign up, but as we all know it isn't for everybody. Right now I'm an E-4 (specialist), after that in January 2012 I should be able to attend courses to become an officer.

An Air Force Meteorologist would be cool, think most of them are stationed up here at Offutt Air Force Base; which is a great base and I love visiting it.

Reflection on the Future

The meeting with the Führer had continued on another two minutes before I had been allowed to depart. Hitler’s had continued on with his insistence to remind me of the dire consequences if I were to fail in my perceived objectives. I was eager to begin using my new found favor to further benefit the cause I had to uphold; yet there were a series of problems that I would have to overcome. My experience within the Waffen Schutzstaffel was limited to minimal, when compared to my predecessor who had molded the organization since his sentencing. From what I had gathered, the position I now found myself in requires an extensive level of politics and posturing, something that I am not skilled in. I knew I would have to find myself an ally in the game of thrones that I most definitely had no choice but to participate in.

What I lacked in the political department, I exceeded in the matter of military affairs. I am unique within the four previous Reichsführers, in the sense that I am the only member who has devoted himself to the truest form of military service. None of my predecessors had obtained a rank higher than lieutenant in service of the Imperial Army, the Reichswehr or in service of the Wehrmacht. Technically after the year of 1934, I had been outranked by Himmler when Reichsführer became equivalent to Generalfeldmarschall of the Heer. I believed that with the new powers I found myself wielding, I could reorganize all the levels of the Schutzstaffel into a better fighting force. Preferably the force could shed the reputation of being force a force whose primary objective was initially to defend the Führer.

The reputation that the Schutzstaffel has blindly followed the Führer though is a bit misconstrued. Unbeknownst to Hitler and the late Himmler, I had learned through various sources, most importantly from the Abwehr headed by Admiral Wilhelm Canaris that the legendary Sepp Dietrich of the 1st SS LAH was willing to assist in a post-Hitler and national socialist Germany. Though the news was welcomed, the 1st SS LAH, though will the largest and most armed division of the Waffen Schutzstaffel was overshadowed by the sheer amount of supporters of the regime. Within the Waffen Schutzstaffel alone, the Dietrich’s division was just one of seventeen. In the sense of combat divisions we fielded, the division was just one of over two hundred.

I had breezed past Martin Bormann who was standing right outside the Führer’s suite. There was no doubt in my mind that Bormann had an inkling of what happened in the meeting, for the look on his face was cold, and abrasive, perhaps knowing that I now represented another threat to his growing influence. Martin had already accumulated immense power, heading the Party Chancellery and controlling access to the Führer. I had also learned from my intelligence associates that Bormann had been jockeying for control of the police services after the death of Himmler, and in fact had been made official the day before my visit. Bormann and I both knew that inevitably a final solution would have to be calculated and carried out for one of us. With those thoughts, I did not confront Bormann at that time.

The move by Bormann actually played well into my overall plans for the Schutzstaffel. I had formulated a plan well before becoming Reichsführer; the plan never being shared with my co-conspirators, but had learned a great deal about the organization from them. There were several sub-organizations under the umbrella of the Schutzstaffel. From the police, women’s corps, a scientific group, police units, and combat divisions, the Schutzstaffel was bloated. While I understood the purpose of the various organizations under the umbrella, I think they would be better suited to be merged with organizations and groups that already served that function. I was more concerned about the combat divisions the constituted the Waffen Schutzstaffel. At the time of my ascension to Reichsführer the Waffen SS composed of twelve divisions and various independent regiments. These would have to be reorganized into something more suitable, but beyond their present organizational orders, the Waffen SS would go through no changes for the foreseeable future.

There were hundreds of plans that I wanted to implement within a moment’s notice of becoming the Reichsführer. However, the strain caused by the past few months had caused a toll that needed to be addressed. After exiting the bunker, I headed back towards Templehof where the planes along with my nephews awaited.

Get rid of Bormann. Just use the "Werther" excuse and... bye bye!

I wonder where is the real General Hoth in this timeline??

So in the end, Hitler does not fall in any way, and Schnack is handed more power than ever before. While I still think Hitler is very brave to hand so much responsibility and power to a man he doesn't actually know at all (even IF he saved his life, there are many reasons to save a man's life, as Tristan proved). I'm a very paranoid person and would struggle to trust him, lifesaving or no.

My biggest worry here, though, is that the other conspirators begin to suspect Tristan has sold out. What's stopping them from thinking that Tristan's new position is a bribe to earn his loyalty. Or worse, what if in the end, even if Tristan himself does not mean for it to, it becomes just that?

But Bormann brings brings some fun to the table for now.

Some place in Germany or German-occupied land.

The Fuhrer may have made a mistake in the sense that we know Tristan's ultimate objective is to kill Hitler, he has mentioned this many times. However, I think Tristan also understands as his brief time as Chief of Staff of the Reserve Army that Hitler can be a paranoid bastard and will need to prove his loyalty. Building the loyalty should provide enough trust and cover for him to fulfill his objective.

But we shall see!

So, he is not in command of any division?

Another nice addition. You mentioned Tristan is the 4th Reichfuhrer? I know Himmler was #1, so who was #2 and #3 (Bormann for a day or two??). My vote is also to have Bormann "disappear" one way or another...the sooner the better.

Also, I meant to say USAAF regarding my dad...just that most people dont know the modern USAF only started in 1947. Keep up the great story line!

In fact, Tristan was the 5th Reichsführer:

Julius Schreck (1925-1926)
Joseph Berchtold (1926-1927)
Erhard Heiden (1927-1929)
Heinrich Himmler (1929-1944 in this ATL).

I know, just gotta give smack when I can. As a person who admires history, I like to point out the small little technicalities at times.

Thanks for beating me to the punch!

You're welcome :p

Ah so....I had forgotten about those earlier fools. I usually delve into the Germany History closer to Adolf's becoming Chancellor...thanks for the reminder. Now I will have to look them all up to refresh my memory!!

The next installment "However Often My Estate" is currently going editing and will be released Soon(TM).

Looking forward to it. I did look up those other Reichfuhrer SS dudes...and that led me onto about 4 hours of assorted other subjects.....love that history stuff.

However Often My Estate

Adolf, Erick, Rhiley and I had arrived safely. We had departed enormous airport of Templehof by two in the afternoon. For hours we flew in a northwesterly direction from Berlin and were making our approach to the miniscule airport outside of the town. As we descended to just a mere two hundred feet, I could already begin to make out the commotion in the town. I am sure the sight of the Führer’s personal Fw-200 escorted by two Messerschmitt Me 262s was not a very common experience for any part of the country; since the Führer had secluded himself in the bunker. As the pilots brought the Fw-200 that Rhiley and I rode in to the ground, I noticed the first members of the local Volksstrum beginning to fall into formation.

The Fw-200 came to a halt after about another thirty or so seconds; much to my delight as I do not prefer air travel, as I believe I have mentioned before. I had commanded the pilots to patiently wait disembarking the plane, and we waited. A minute passed between the time we landed and the order, before the first Messerschmitt Me 262 piloted by Adolf landed, quickly followed by Erick. I watched earnestly from my window as they got out of the plane and approached the door of the Fw-200. They stood at attention outside of the plane; they had known to patiently wait.

I eagerly watched the crowd continue to gather; surely the whole town would be gathered in a matter of minutes upon the news of the Führer’s plane landing on the outskirts. Another slow five minutes passed, and I noticed the entire Volksstrum had been summoned, along with the town mayor and party representative. Among the crowd I could make out the one person who I sought to appoint the Chief of the Reserve Army. I sighed for a moment, thinking, calculating and dreaming.

“Rhiley, open the door,” I said after finishing my day dream; which only lasted thirty seconds. Rhiley took a second to stand up right from the chair, and effortlessly unlatched the door from the lock, and slowly guided it open. Almost instantly I could hear the crowd grow silent, there had been a band playing Deutschland Uber Alles, with children’s screams of excitement also filling the air. Attention was now solely focused on the door of the Fw-200. I noticed Rhiley’s brief moment of hesitation as he began descending the steps from the plane to the tarmac. He had looked up and noticed the crowd paying attention to his every action, and paused. As much doubt as I had in him at times, he had collected himself with ease and continued to the tarmac, where he was saluted by his cousins. After returning the Führer salute, he took a few steps towards the crowd and came to a halt and about faced.

The end of Rhiley’s actions was my signal. I took a deep breathe and casually got up from the seat and headed towards the door of the plane. I stood for a moment at the door, there was no hesitation. I was simply admiring the crowd that had gathered for the arrival. I stepped forward with my left foot, followed by the right foot. While performing those two actions I put on a new cap that I had collected in Berlin before our departure. As I descended Adolf, Erick and Rhiley performed the Führer salute; which prompted the crowd to go into a mass frenzy of the same salute.

I returned the salute once my reached the tarmac. I casually walked past Rhiley, towards the mayor and the commander of the town’s Volksstrum. Rhiley followed me, and he was soon followed by his two cousins. The crowded continued to remain in their silent but respectful manner with the Führer salute. When we disembarked from plane a good thirty meters away from the crowd and casually covered the distance before just a meter in front of the mayor and commander. Though I did not look like the Führer, the people still assumed that he may have been on the plane, and remained in their delirious state.

“Major, Mayor,” I said in a normal tone. “The Führer has personally sent me on a very important mission. I expect your utmost cooperation in the matter. Is there any questions?” I smirked after saying that.

A Mayor becoming head of the Reserve Army? Curious indeed.

Thanks to all those who voted for this award!

I am pleased to win my first AARland Choice AwAARd!

Congrats!

I would have, but I'm too lazy

Well then...such treason will not be handled lightly. *Tristan Schnack stares you down and methodically raises his right arm*.

Congrats TekcoR...you got my vote.....

I dont think the Mayor of the town is who Tristan came to see....If I might be so bold I think he came to see the commander of the local Volkstrumm.....someone who was probably 'retired' earlier in the war for his views on how the war was going???? Hmmmm...we shall see.
