April is a special time of the year for Nightmare, there is so much going on. In celebration of Easter, the Fuhrer's birthday and just my love of the Walking Dead... Nightmare is proud to present:

Zeal for Zombies

Who would you rather follow?

OR

Oh shit. I'm toying too with a Zombie outlash in Nazi Germany... I prefer the first image. The second one is disturbing for me for personal reasons.

Alone in the Bunker

Seconds had passed since the “attempted” assassination of Hitler by the former Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg; his corpse eerily remained in the bunker. “Sit, sit down,” the Führer said calmly and quietly like an aged grandparent. I was awestruck by the demeanor the Führer had been displaying, and took time to recover from the paralysis. I eventually removed myself from my attentive stance and sat where the private secretary, Bormann, had been sitting.

“Tristan, as you are aware, the Fatherland is facing enormous pressures both externally and unfortunately internally. The events that transpired today highlight the combination of my worst fears – external and internal threats are working together. People within the National Socialist structure that I have built have been deliberately calculating with the sworn enemy! There is no excuse for such dastardly acts of cowardice,” he said after I had sat down, quickly removing the notion he had become like a grandparent.

I waited a handful of seconds before daring to speak; Hitler had a reputation of collecting his thoughts before continuing his speech. “I full heartedly agree my Führer. There is no excuse for betraying the nation and the people you have sworn to protect,” I stopped there, though I knew I could say more to further infuriate him.

The attempt to increase the intensity had failed; Hitler began a new in a more collected tone. “I have recently been reading about the magnificent contributions that the Schnack family has contributed to the people of the master race,” he paused as he reached into a drawer near the couch. After fidgeting with the drawer he pulled out a copy of my grandfather’s memoirs. I was stunned. I had not read words from my grandfather since after his death. I held back tears and frustration, my grandfathers words were eloquent and true definition of the Führer’s feeble mind. He was not for the extension of dictatorships or absolute monarchs, but rather preferred the style of government that was prevalent in the United Kingdom. Either the Führer could not comprehend the words, or he had deliberately skipped over the three chapters dedicated to the type of government Germany needed.

“Your grandfather would proud of the service you have accomplished in the name of the Fatherland,” he said with an enormous smile. I forced a smile; though for obviously different reasons than the Führer.

I have always tried to live by the values my grandfather has instilled into the family. He is quoted to have said: “it is better to act in a calculated way than hastily; and it is better to proceed at your pace than be forced into action.” In retrospect, my actions have not always been in the words of my grandfather. Himmler’s death while calculated was a moment of passion, I had not expected his arrival. But an opportunity had been presented that could not simply been ignored. Stauffenberg’s betrayal had caught me off-guard, forcing me to hastily act. As I sat there with Hitler, I was following the words of my grandfather. The life of the Führer would require additional time to calculate and prepare. As much as I dreamt of killing Hitler, knowing the fact that getting him all alone in a room was near impossible, he would live to see another day.

Hitler cleared his throat, snapping me from my daydream of Hitler’s corpse next to Stauffenberg’s. “Tristan, what I am about to say is important not only to the future of Germany, but also to you. The dedication of your service has propelled this momentous decision upon you. There are two powerful openings within the regime, and one of them has been reserved specifically for you. The other position while also of vital importance should be filled as soon as possible by a person of your choosing. This person must be somebody who has valiantly served and displayed the equal dedication as you have to the National Socialist cause. Do you have any names in mind my Reichsführer?”

The bombshell exploded, sending me into a mental whirl. I sat there paralyzed for what felt an eternity, the room totally quiet, Hitler’s stare into my eyes sending alarm bells that I should react, but I was incapable of response. “I do my Führer. I will need to visit him back at his home and advise him in detail of the gravity of the situation we find ourselves in,” I said after one full minute had passed from the bomb bursting in air.

Holeeee shit. Tristian kills Himmler only to get his job? Sweet

That was unexpected.

What became of Heydrich? Did he got killed as usual?

Yep. It's called kill a boss, become the boss :D. Seems to happen a lot in dictatorships...wonder why.

So, will Tristan now use his position to bring Hitler down or will he make peace with Hitler now that he is one of the most powerful people in the Third Reich?

I'm going to say with the former, based on the titles of future installments and plot lines I've worked through. I hope to get a lot more accomplished in the next few weeks before my vacation and then required departure.

That was unexpected.

Heydrich is most likely dead. I haven't quite determined his fate though, he may show up, he may not. It really depends on if there is time to "talk" about him. I'm still very much trying to keep the story based around Tristan and the events he witnesses or partakes in, because this is somewhat of memoir by him.

Fascinating stuff. The sort of power that's been handed to Tristan with the office of Reichsführer is immense, and he could do a lot of good for Germany as long as he doesn't fall into the trap or become perceived by his co-conspirators as a traitor himself. I also think it helps highlight Hitler's own complete divorce from reality, giving a powerful political office to a military officer with no real political experience! He's too blinded by the fact that Tristan saved his life, not paranoid enough, ironically.

Actually, that's pretty reasonable decision from Hitler's standpoint. Schnack saved him, risking is own life or health in the attempt. It's only natural to have a man whom you can trust with your life in charge of something important. After all, why should someone want to see you dead after that person is rewarded with the highest rank of the German Schutzstaffel? Not to mention that he killed the traitor, who tried to assassinate Fuhrer, without any doubts and discovered plot against the whole Oberkommando der Wehrmacht? I wonder what will happen to Schnack now. Power corrupts...

My question is - how big are Germany's reserves of oil and how much you can produce at the moment?

True, and between Tristian and his co-appointee they could pretty much shove Hitler into the background and run the country themselves with Hitler as a puppet. Then, get rid of Hitler when he's outlived his usefulness (which would be pretty quickly) and become head himself. Done!

We shall see where it heads off to. There is some interesting events coming up within the next few installments that I have planned. It is true that power corrupts, but too how much of an extent will it be for Tristan? It is hard to say. He does hold his grandfather in great esteem, will he be able to carry out his wish to have a government similar to the United Kingdom's for Germany?

But who exactly will Tristan's appointee to the Head of the Reserve Army be? Historically, Himmler became the head after Fromm was arrested. But I doubt I would make that happen, it won't necessarily advance the plot in a suitable direction I believe. I also think if Tristan were to choose himself as the head of the Reserve Army, it would also make his co-conspirators suspicious of his motives and deemed to be against the plot to remove Hitler.

I am pretty sure who I am going to appoint (six letter first name) (seven letter last name) as the general in charge of the Reserve Army.

Until then, enjoy!

I wonder where is affected the OTL General Hoth in this story :)?

Important news about your Nightmare fix!

I will be out of town this weekend and will not have time to write down the next installments of Nightmare; however the mental processing will continue only when a certain liquid is not being consumed. If my calculations are right, there are 42 more days before I go on a two week vacation. There is 60 days before writing will cease for close to 6 months.

How much writing and story can be completed before then? We shall see!

SIX months without writting a single post?

HOLY COW.

HOLY COW.

I *MIGHT* be lucky and able to sneak in an occasional post either on Facebook or perhaps...maybe if I'm lucky get my mobile to actually load up Paradox's page and say hi.

Nice one TekcoR....I thought Tristan might be elevated to right hand man of the Fuhrer...but I thought he might replace Bormann...but appointed as Reichfuhrer SS???? Bonus appointment!! My guess at appointment to assist Tristan is General Rudolf Schmidt, but only because his name fits your clues...lol....

I wish you another happy vacation ....but please no 6 month waits!!!!

Unfortunately, I cannot modify the orders. Follow the chain of command, and the command says beginning June 11th until sometime in November, maybe December I will be performing wonderful training for the country. I'll try to make the last installment before the six month wait as suspenseful as possible!

I might have missed it, but do I guess correctly that you serve in our fabulous Armed Forces? Getting deployed? My Dad served 30 years in the USAF, starting off as a gunner on B17's bombing the Reich. Sadly, I never served in the military, but have proudly served as a 'law man' for almost 30 years. My adopted son is a Capt in the US Army, and has been deployed 3 times so far. God Bless all of you! Keep up the great work.

Can't say USAF...You mean United States Army Air Corps/Force until 1947. Sorry, history. Gotta love it =).

I will stay safe, though it might be hard for a Yankee to stay safe in rebel territory of South Carolina!

LOL, Nebraska should have trained you well.

My father was in the USAF as a C-130 pilot during the 1980s and early 1990s (including the Operation Just Cause and Desert Storm). He is a 757/767 pilot for US Airways now. My cousin is joining the USAF very soon (he has basic training in San Antonio beginning in June, I believe) as a crew chief on the KC-135.

I may look into joining the armed forces after I graduate from college, but we shall see. I am a meteorology major here at NC State, so I could be an Air Force Meteorologist, perhaps! :D

I wish you best of luck, though, and stay safe! :)
