Thread: Goons

The expansion West did not happen for some time after the initial colonial settlements. That's not to say that some people didn't venture out and become fur traders with the natives, but it wasn't as common as coming to the "New World" and settling in an organized town (13 original colonies were around for well over 100 years before any sizable movement West started to happen).

Now as for the "Goons", they shouldn't be much of a problem if you are in an organized town. Karma makes them out to be some highly organized, criminal underworld/secret society. This is completely false. I was in the "goons" in AoC for some time. They are just a bunch of nerd rage kids/few older people who like to grief the crap out of people, and are only able to do so if they have mass numbers. The highest organization they have is voice coms and forum chatter. There isn't some "secret leader" who gives orders from behind the shadows. Karma's entire perception of the Goons makes me laugh actually.

The frequency of raiding and pking will all be dependent upon a few things: The ability to make strong defenses, and the time it takes to train up your combat skills. If it doesn't take long to train up some combat skills, you may see swarms of naked noobs attacking villages. If it takes a while, people will be a lot more careful of how/when/who they actually attack and raid.

    Just my .02$ anyway.

Reading about them reminded my days of playing Eve online, trough what I remember of them is not as is said here but opposite since they where our ally and even helped to deform other ally that was spreading evil in the whole galactic as this I was thinking since I was noob, but man if they would try to play Salem I guess it would force some small settlemens to group in bigger ones and so on and even encourage players who like to play as a hermit as myself. Wich for me is a good motive to try and join a small comunity that owns a village even if I am not sure about it.

Permadeath+f2p+persistent world=goon magnet. They've caused havoc in a great number of games, even ones as big as Eve Online. I can only immagine what they will be able to do in this game...
The actions of goons and other big alliances are the only thing drawing me into EVE. If something similar happens in Salem, I'm all for it.

Well, because u were just a random goon. And like in any other organization out there they do not inform every memmber of their organization. Because if they would there would be no point in organization as such. Try working for any big company, for example Southwestern. At first glance, you will be introduced to a summer job in USA where you would spend your summer selling crappy books door-to-door. Later, you will find out that ur actually a member of a cult. And if you will work several years for SW you might eventually become an official employee and will be told way more info about their true activities, rather what regular individual contractors are told (and once you start working for SW you become an individual contractor, which means that if u are mugged, raped or killed during your summer job the company does not have any responsibility for it).

Same with Goons. Goons and Somethign Awful is not actually the real name of their society. The real name is something that I wont say here because well..I dont want my house destoryed in the first week in Salem, but Im just saying. Former members of their Guild have way more power and I bet you dont know their names. They never grief for fun sake. THey only do it on purpose. If theres an interest for them. In EVE they tried to help to destory another alliance so as to become #1, not because they are actually trying to fight evil.

They are VERY organized. Being a simple member you are rarely told you the clan is gonna do tonight. They just say you where to go and what to do...not why, not who is behind it and of course, everything done is under responsibility of those goons who do it, not the former members who make ENERMOUS profit from avarage goon actions. After Goons do theor business ppl get on forums and make billion threads crying and tyring to persuade the staff to ban them. And they can only name only few ppl who they saw doing this. And they are usually randomly generated names, not actual characters.

Salem will be a game when everybody will eventually have to pay for their actions...and believe me, Gooons...or what they are really called name I wont say here...are highly organized to do whatever they want. In the first month or so there will be a huge alliance formed which will become the largest trade center in Salem. If there will be another one - there will be war. Ppl who would decide to not to join any of them and live on their own will soon be offered protection money..so better take sides guys.

I don't care what you might think. Im not a part of Goons and I am not going to join them. This is just what I know since I and few of my friends were investigating them for years. We managed to get to the high ranks...not the top of iceberg, of course, but still...we have way more to say than I did. Im just trying to warn you now. Why? Because its not just a crowd of griefers. THey do look so because they hire random 13 years old whiny kids who only want griefing. But this army of kids is ruled by several VERY experienced MMO powergamers and they are smarter than all of you all together. Even if you manage to drive them away you might soon find out that people who you trusted all the time will dry loot you. And yes, they do send spies to every potential enemy and/or place to make profit at.

I just have to laugh at this thread. While I'm not a member of the SA forums, I've met a few people who are and are members of the Goons. I can't think of a game one that they haven't brought excitement and actually helped improve the game. Sometimes that's been by being total asses and made the devs think about what they were doing and fix problems. Other times that's been by actually creating some community even if it was just for the lulz.

edit: FYI, they already know about it. (There are Goons in the HnH community.)

o plz, Keep it real guys

Goons is a zerg clan (skilles players) and no more than that.
So fight them like you would any large clan.. with guerilla tactics and patience.

Of course the goon factions are all the same across all games and groups of people.

  8. #28

All very true. Regardless of what they do in the game, it ALWAYS brings excitement...

This right here, at least goons could be bartered with if you were funny enough. Heck even if they killed you it was usually hilarious.

The Russians on the other hand...
If at first you don't succeed, well thats pretty much it for sky-diving.

Goons are a blessing to many games.

They bring in so many "normal' players too you know?

    Don't generalize the goons please!

I for one am happy to see the Goon's if they are coming, not least because it strikes me that battle needs to be rejoined from EVE related affairs. Also because they are always good value for their presence.

  17. #37
We are coming for your pubbie tears.

    Be afraid.

Or not, it'll be more fun that way.

Or, you know, play the game and not try to run out a community who can get the last laugh. There wasn't a game alive that could permanately run out the GOONS when we want to play.

I'll only be bothered if they decide kill non-Goons on site. Other than that, it should be okay.
