If I am going to the large election, I will moderate my policies. Here are my new policies:
Interventionism/Anti-Military/Secularism/Full Citizenship/Protectionism

We cannot allow a coalition government to simply win without any other option. I have harbored ill fellings towards my candidate's Laissez Faire stance in these tough times. What we need is a government ready to step in to prevent and lessen the impact of the human element which will run on the credit system. We need an Interventionist government ready to pick up the slack in this period of Depression.

I call on the powers at be to let me organize a counter to this Laissez Faire stance. I support all of the honorable Presidente's positions except this one economic one. He supports a free society, and a free economy. A free economywill not last though if we let Depression economics lead the people to question their free system. Instead, we need a new temporary government entrance to ensure the longterm survival of our economic way of life. Its time we left the realm of the ideal, and entered that of the practical.

Those are my terms.

The 1898-1899 Chilean Civil war was one of the most important conflicts of its time. Not only it defined the future of one of the world's greatest powers, but it is also the dawn of the upcoming conflicts of the XXth Century. It gave birth to fascism and it is the representation of the years to come: it represents the ideological conflict between socialism/communism, fascism/conservativism and liberal democracy. It is also the only three-way conflict of it's era and a topic of study between academic scholars.

Today, Senor Silva announced the appointment of Senor Andonie as COO of Pueblos Emperosa and the expanding of it into Colombia and Peru. In other news, Senor Silva has purchased a new villa southeast of Chile, he has ordered its immediate renovation and has decided to call it the 'Casa de la Paz'.

It is with pleasure I present Andean Air Cargo, the new aeroplance company that will take cargo from one side of Chile to another. Transporting your goods have never been this fast. Our aeroplanes fly day and night to all large Chilean cities, and to even the most remote regions. Andean Air Cargo is at your service!

Have you flying experience? Do you want to fly an aeroplane? Andean Air Cargo is expanding our routes, and we are seeking more pilots.

It seems that the Liberales aren't going to compromise on laissez-faire policies, while the economy and the working classes are struggling; therefore:

I change my vote to Coalition: None from Coalition: Liberales.

- Alejandro Farìas

The 1931 Conventions
The battle over the 1930 Liberal nomination ended early. Daniel Palomino's two opponents, Carlos Andonie III and Ramone de Guerro, dropped out of the race early and endorsed Palomino after it became clear neither had the clout to oppose the incumbent President for long. At the Liberal convention that winter, Palomino was re-nominated by a thunderous majority and in his acceptance speech declared his intention to invite both the Republicanos Nacionales and the FNT to join with him to form the first complete National Unity ticket in Chile in ninety years. In the aftermath of the war and with the depression still ongoing, this was a time for the politicians of Chile to come together as one, or so said Palomino. Complying with his wishes, the Partido Liberal voted overwhelmingly to extend offers of coalition to the two other parties.

The Republicanos Nacionales accepted the invitation to a joint convention after a minimal debate. Sebastian Montenegro, again the consensus candidate for the conservatives, had feared that he might not receive enough support to get on the ballot at all in 1931, and decided that allying with the President to forward the party agenda was the most graceful course of action. At the FNT convention, the decision was no so clear cut. Alejandro Farìas, the previous year's nominee, faced squared off against the FNT's Antonia Zepeda, the first female Presidential candidate in Chilean history. Farìas favored coalition while Zepeda opposed the alliance. Eventually, Farìas was able to win out over Zepeda by a narrow margin in the third ballot at the convention, and his plans for coalition came with him.

Daniel Palomino, with Farìas and Montenegro behind him, announced the first national unity ticket in living memory in a speech from the balcony of the rebuilt La Moneda palace. The coalition bid left Palomino without major opposition. However, Palomino was not without opponents. Galled by the President's failure to bring down unemployment and the treasury corruption scandals, numerous opponents of the President began to discuss backing an independent candidate for a run in the general election. Names flew: Bevan, Zepeda, Andonie, Villa, Thaumen, Montenegro, even the crippled former President Fuentes (who had been excused from a treason trial on health grounds) were discussed as possible candidates by a disorganized opposition.

Antonia Zepeda, the FNT runner-up, nearly became the consensus opposition candidate. However, at the last moment, Farìas pulled his support for the coalition deal. In a public speech, Farìas described Palomino as unwilling to compromise on his economic policies and use treasury funds to offset the growing recession. Though the coalition ticket was already done (with Palomino standing as the formal joint nominee of the FNT, Republicanos Nacionales, and Liberales), Farìas announced his own intentions to run as an independent opposition candidate. He and his supporters walked away from the coalition deal, leaving the President with FNT support in name only.

National Unity Candidate: Daniel Palomino ((MastahCheef117))

Anti-Military/Secularism/Laissez-Faire/Free Trade/Full Citizenship [2+2+2+1+2=9]

Greetings, Chileans! I come before you, a humble man, to present to you my policies. They are as follows:

In terms of foreign affairs and the military, I am Anti-Military. The military is most definitely important for Chile, as it is for all nations, but I am truly surprised that not many other politicians have realized that one of the primary reasons for these constant coups, rebellions, and civil wars is for such a pro-military stance. By placing a huge portion of our budget on expanding and maintaining an unnecessarily and ridiculously large military, we increase the likelihood of a coup - and a successful one, at that - exponentially. The military is still an important factor of our sovereignty, but we cannot go on a spree of creating weapons and artillery and using it as an excuse to retain our freedom and independence. The navy, however, will receive a priority to keep our shores safe, as we have no true enemies on the South American continent.

When it comes to the economy, I am pro-Laissez-Faire and Free Trade. Chile is renowned worldwide for our free market that has brought innumerable amounts of prosperity to her people and the other nations of the world. Chile's economy is a trading hub for some of the world's rarest materials, brought here by the businessmen, traders, pioneers, and farmers of this great nation. The government is not required to build and guide our factories - our people know what to do. And what is more, we need no tariffs to give us the edge over foreign competitors. Chile is a free nation of thought and equality - we shall not become a nation of greedy ultra-capitalistic nationalists.

With religion, I am a Secularist. Democracies the world over - and in no way excluding Chile - are famed for their freedom of speech, petitioning, the press, and, most importantly, the freedom of religion. Be you Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Atheist, even Buddhist, Chile is home to all, and home to you.

In citizenship, I am pro-Full Citizenship. Chile is a democracy of the people, by the people, and for the people. The immigrants that flow into our nation daily fuel our economy, further diversify our nation with such a rich collection of cultures from the world over, and these people are the epitome of the great Chilean citizen. An immigrant of one year deserves as many rights as a man whose family has been Chilean for close to a century.

The government need not have a large part in the life of any Chilean. Despite the key right of a man of Chile and democracy to vote, the government they participate in must be limited to the fullest extent.

I shall see you all at the polls, people of Chile!'

Independent Opposition Candidate: Alejandro Farìas ((viola))

Pacifism/Secularism/State Capitalism/Free Trade/Full Citizenship [3+2+0+1+2=8]

Free Trade: Tariffs will just hurt the economy, worsening the worker's living condition.
State Capitalism: State control is necessary in order to introduce effective social reforms and to improve the worker's condition.
Secularism: Church and State must be separated. Every religion is equal before the state.
Pacifism: The World has seen too much bloodshed! It's time to refuse war and militarism!
Full Citizenship: Chile is a nation of immigrants and they deserve the same rights of every chilean citizen.

Well, here we are. The very last Presidential election. We've come a long way together. You don't really need me to tell you the drill by now, do you?

As always, remember to bold your votes or they might not be counted.

A sample ballot would look like:
President: Palomino/Farìas
Employment and Rebuilding Act: Yes/No/Abstain

Candidates let me know if you want your platforms updated.

This poll will end at 10:00 AM PST on the 13th(two days).

President: Palomino
Only an environment of investments and capitalism will allow us to get out of this crisis.

Employment and rebuilding act: No!!
Smells like Socialism. We can't allow it to taint this nation, not now when victory for economic freedom is at hand!

"I shall support my dear friend Palomino in this election, as I have faith in him and his policies whilst I do not believe Farias is the right one to be President. I shall also fully endorse the Employment and Rebuilding Act by voting Yes. The veterans did a lot for this country, and I appeal to those with a history of the military to back Palomino and vote yes on the bill. I also appeal to the rest of the Liberales Party to support this bill.

A vote for Palomino is a vote for Chilean revival!"
- General Carlos Ramone de Guerro of Patagonia

((I am still a general right?))

I will continue to steadfastly the administration and Palomino

I will also abstain on the bill, though I may reconsider my vote.

Employment and Rebuilding Act: Yes

"I cannot support either candidate, seeing as they fail to embody pro-militarist policies; that is the only reason I do not vote for Farias."

Dr. Sebastian Montenegro

President: Palomino

While I would support Interventionist politics for a try to prevent thie growing economic catastrophy, I would rather the freedom of our current Presidente over the opposition.

I support Farias for Presidente! Clearly he is the people's candidate.
I would also like to as the speaker if this is going to be the last election for this current period of time.

Farias.
Yes to the Bill
.

I'm sad I didn't make it to the elections... I was so damned close! But Farias has my support!

Yes to Employment and Rebuilding Act

While I would prefer a non-pacifist candidate who will pay our soldiers a good wage, I can not support Palomino and his laissez faire economic policy which has left so many unemployed.
