Troubling times in Illustrious Chile indeed. While we may have to come up with a temporary plan to assist those suffering in this Great Depression, we cannot allow the fundamentals of our free economy in glorious sublime Chile to fall.

Palomino has my support. I would not mind either if he turned his eye towards Intervention economics for the nonce. It would go over well to draw some support from centrist voters, and might have the benefit of assisting the unemployed. I could even imagine a system where subsidized factories were put in place to siphon off some of the unemployed, then shut down when private factories were built. This is not permanent, and is only a musing, but it should be something for candidates to consider in our Liberale party of Sublime Chile

Chile para los chilenos

Fair Competition Bill: no
Alejandro Silva Bill: no
The Restoration of Santiago Bill: Yes

"It saddens me over the allegations of corruption within my administration, whether reality or not. This corruption must be stamped out.

As for the economy, I believe that certain interventionist measures must be taken by the state in order to keep the economy from falling completely into the abyss. The unemployment is disastrously high, and I hope to implement several new bills that will stimulate the economy and create jobs.

I also thank Senor de Cordova and Senor de Santa Rosa for their support during these troubling times."

Fair Competition Bill: Yes
Alejandro Silva Bill: Abstain
The Restoration of Santiago Bill: Yes

~President Daniel Palomino

"Senor Palomino, you also have my support....as long as you don't plan on restricting my right to purchase shares and corporations."

~ Alejandro Silva, Chief Executive of the Silva Conglomerate

"I wish to change my vote on the Fair Competition Bill to Abstain as of currently. I will survey events and look into the bill to come to a full conclusion upon a decision as I believe my earlier vote was one made very rapidly and rashly without fully delving into the details. My votes on the other bills do however stand.

I would also like to announce that I now have a son, who was born mere hours ago."

"Why is it that only Silva has to relinquish his corporate assets? If we are going to be fair about this, then Dickhard's assets have to be acquired by the state as well."

Dr. Sebastian Montenegro

Because they were originally public enterprises and he privatized them without the consent of the congreso, thats why.

Why are the other liberales against this bill? Its purpose is to ensure fair competition and promote innovation. I am a liberal and I believe that any man should have the liberty to start his own business and prosper in his effords, instead of being forced into bankrupcy by a monopoly. You are not defending laissez faire, you are encouraging trusts and monopolios.

Yes to all bills.

So you are telling me you can just walk in and sieze a government industry without opposition? The Pueblos Empresa is a public industry and NOT the prívate industry of former president Fuentes. The privatization of such a large public industry should be first authorized by the congreso.

As it is highly unlikely for me to win the liberales primaries:
I am running for President on a FNT ticket.
Interventionism/Protectionism/Pacifism/Secularism/Lim Citizenship

Hopefully with the aid of the socialistas we can destroy these monopolies, cure unemployment, re-nationalize the Pueblos Empresa, cut on workers' taxes and hand out some bailouts to key industries. I am also seeking a coalition with the Republicanos Nacionales: to save our nation and our people we must stand together!

Santiago - Legendary General Juan Rivera has passed away at the age of 72. The General led the Jacobin Republicano Army in retaking Santiago from the Fuente National regime and commanded his Army victoriously against the Communista rebels in the recent civil war. In lieu of flowers, the Rivera family requests mourners to send donations to the war widows and orphans fund.

New Character.

Alejandro Ramirez

Born 1905.

Ramirez joined the Army when he turned 17 and served throughout the Civil War loyal to the Republic. With the recent cuts to the Army he was honourably discharged and sought work in the factories. Unable to find permanent work in the city he found temporary work in the mines and has organized the Chilean Veterans Association (CVA). He feels the soldiers and labourers have been treated badly after sacrificing so much fighting the rebellion. The Army callously discharged loyal soldiers who have no hope of finding work in Chile's troubled economy. He is currently independent politically but believes the government should provide employment to discharged veterans and as such the CVA is sending the following bill to the Congresso.

Employment and Rebuilding Act

1. For all rebuilding projects, including those proposed in the Santiago Restoration Act, discharged veterans of the Chilean Armed Services shall be the first hired to work on these projects.

2. All workers on such rebuilding projects shall have the right to form labour unions and collectively bargain for wages and benefits.

"I have decided to run for President on the Liberales ticket.
My policies are: Free Trade/Interventionism/Pluralism/Pro-Military/Full Citizenship

After much thought, I have decided that I can not fully place my support behind Palomino with the knowledge that many Chilean veterans have been forced out of work, and especially with the current economy and employment ratings, those veterans are struggling to find work. For this reason, I have decided to run. I also want to fully endorse the Employment and Rebuilding Act proposed by the CVA, as I believe the veterans, after all the effort they put into defending this country, deserve to be paid back."
- General Carlos Ramone de Guerro of Patagonia

I wish to run once more on the Liberales ticket. While I respect The Presidente I have some concerns with his oversight of government and some of his military decisions. For these reason I will run once again and hope for support once the voting begins.

My polices aer the same as ever. Laissez Faire, Free Trade, Secularism, Pro Military and Full Citezenship.

I request the president to remain true to the principles of laissez-faire, which, since my father's presidency, brought Chile immense wealth and prosperity even during the greatest of crises.

The Restoration of Santiago Bill: Yes
Fair Competition Bill: No
Alejandro Silva Bill: No

Let's kill this business killing legislation now. We must safeguard our free market, it is our greatest right.

"Well, I believe that most people know by now, but I must make it official: I, Daniel Palomino, plan on re-running for another term as President on the Liberal ticket!"

~President Daniel Palomino

I want to inform my business associates that my ships between Valparaiso and Yokohama will continue to go according to schedule, same goes for the ships to Shanghai and Seoul. I am planning to open a new line that would go to Cairns, Australia. There are business opportunities to be made by both Chileans and Australians from this. The Pacific Trade must continue to flourish.

I also say yes to all bills

Welcome!
Its the year 1930.. I am sure you have made a mistake.. I cant believe you had voted for Badajoz and lived over 130 years so I think you meant you were born in 1900 and voted for Palomino, right?

Anyways I am saddened that the liberales have become dogmatic. The Liberal Party is the single most important and long lived party in Chile and that is because they have adapted to the national circumstances. But they are unable to enforce measures to save our nation because they are unable to cope without laissez faire. If they would support an emergency interventiomist measure to keep us out of the crisis they would do the nation some good. I support a "new deal".. lets cut some budget and provide employment through public industry and giving some incentives to the private sector.

Laissez Faire economics, it is a dream. Every Chilean has the opportunity to make a fortune by his or her own right, every Chilean. The freedom of economic movement is second only to the freedom of social living, linked in fact. However, we must realize that we need to make sacrifices during this time of crisis. Laissez Faire means everyone makes their own choice, and this arrival of a depression behooves people to make I daresay choices that harm themselves and the rest of illustrious Chile. If the government can cut back on taxes, maintain our unemployment benefits etc..., and create a temporary public industry sector, we will not be destroying our glorious Laissez Faire, but saving it.

I support an Interventionist style economics. I should clarify however, that I shall only support such a powerful public sector as long as this depression continues. Once Chile has recovered, she shall prosper by the full force of her private workforce.

On a slightly related note regarding the Employment and Rebuilding Act. The first part of the bill, giving preferential treatment to soldiers, is in my opinion not just. Any Chilean who is unemployed should have equal access to a job, as long as they are capable of achieving the job of course. On the second point of the bill, I believe it was already in place that Chilean workers had the right to unionize. I could be mistaken of course.

I also hope I do not come across as ignorant if I admit I have no clue as to what the Alvarado Proposal intends to accomplish?

The problem is that withour proper antitrust laws, laissez faire fails to achieve its main goal: provide the opportunity for any man to rise. If we do not provide proper antitrust/antimonopoly laws then the dream is lost and laissez faire is nothing but nice words. Thats why we must make an example out of Alejandro Silva: he represents the inefficiencies of our system and one of the motives of this crisis.

I am currently the only candidate with Interventionist policies. I believe we should make such tax cuts and have the government provide additional jobs while giving nailouts to our more important industries that are unexpendable.

However the liberales have become too dogmatic lately and are unable to adapt to the new circumstances: they wont support the antimonopoly bill or interventionist measures to save our economy. Things have gotten out of hand and the Liberales wont do anything about it because of the ideologic implications it brings. It has come to a point that myself, a liberal from one of the most important liberal families of Chile, have left the party and even come tot the point to be pushed into the opposition and being treated as too radical when I am simply proposing emergency measures.

Two of the three Liberale candidates have Interventionist leanings, including you that makes three out of four. It would seem most of the politicians running for office as a Liberale are in fact moving on with the times.

Outlash against your bills is a different story. Perhaps if they were more generalized, more Liberale's would appreciate them?
