Thread: Shadow of the Andes - An Interactive Chilean AAR

Much as I despair against the result of the election there can be no doubt that the election was fair and sadly, the will of the people. It is therefore wrong that that this upstart try and thwart this will. It is apoparent that the non appearnce of the communists at the poll was deliberate, to engineer this victory for the right and give a thin pretext of a reason for this coup. I reject it and will urge all other socialists to reject it. Not just because it is wrong but also because it is doomed to failure.

When Gogolow gave us these posts, we Communistas, we all made an oath - an oath on top of our oaths of service - to repay his faith in us with loyalty.

I stand for the Third Republic, but I intend to reach Juarez first and take him alive, and keep as many of his men alive as possible. General Renin, together, you and I can take him! I am asking you, President Gogolow, and President-elect Rivera, to not issue a countermanding order; because I don't want to be forced to ask my men to mutiny. But this assignment is not a choice for me, I must do whatever I can to bring my comrade back into the fold, alive, and do the same for as many of his men as possible.

This is something I must do, I only ask that you do not try to stop me.

There are two ideas of government. There are those who believe that, if you will only legislate to make the well-to-do prosperous, their prosperity will leak through on those below. The democratic idea, however, has been that if you legislate to make the masses prosperous, their prosperity will find its way up through every class which rests up on them. - William Jennings Bryan (1896)

I agree with Miramontes. You have spent a lot of time saying you want to unite us but your actions speak louder than words Juarez. I would not be concerned about your feeble attempt at a coup if i did not know the cost to the men of Chile. You say you are for the worker, the common man but it is those men who will die needlessly.

The time has come for all Chileans to once again stand for the Republic. The Republic has had many enemies but now we face one of the most sinister forces of tyranny even seen. But I am not worried as those who seek to impose tyranny on the Chilean people will once again be defeated by the Chilean people.

I concur with Señors Miramontes and Guerrero. We must avoid needless slaughter at all costs.

I would say that his coup will come close in futility to the failed coups of Zepeda and Severino. Thank god it looks like common sense has broken out and senior figures in the bCommunists are coming forward to defend the Republic. I may have been hasty in casting my aspersions wider than Juarez. If that is the case I apologise.

I wanted to create a worker's republic, run by a central comitte of respected an intelligent friend's of the proletariat, with a wise and skilled leader at it's head. I respected Gogolow and I approached him with the idea but he ouright rejected it. If any other great leader of men steps forward perhaps he can lead it, but for now the burden will rest onmy shoulder's.

I will stand for this Republic. I don't agree with Senor Rivera on many issues, but he was elected democratically, just as every other president we've had has been. It now seems that the Left (at least the radical communists) are loathe to surrender their new found power, and that the only party to hold power that has never launched a coup is the Republicanos, both under liberal and conservative leadership (unless you count Cortez, though he became a Nationale, for all intents and purposes.)

I also would like to say one more thing; thank you Senor Gogolow. Though we have rarely found ourselves on the same side, I am glad to see your devotion to the Republic, and hope that sensible (if misguided) leaders like you will continue to play strong roles in Chilean politics (only more capitalistic...).

I also wish to set up a compensation program for those whose land was seized.

    Land Seizure Compensation Act

    1. This Act is enacted for the purpose of giving fair compensation to those whose land was seized pursuant to the Land Redistribution Act.

    2. Any person or entity whose land was seized shall be entitled to the fair market value of their land at the time of seizure. The Interior Ministry will determine these values.

    3. The funds to compensate will be raised from those who received the seized land. A portion of their earnings from the received land will be collected and used to compensate those whose land was seized. These collections will continue until such debt is paid in full. The Interior Ministry will determine the amount to be collected.

    4. Those who received the seized land also have the option of leaving the land and having it restored to the previous owner if they do not wish to participate in the repayment program.
While the repayment for the taken lands is a good action, I am wary about how the implementation of the bill might cause further turmoil and slow economic growth. We hardly have ownership of the lands any more (having divided it among the workers as the former bill declared) whose legitimately made and governmentally encouraged plans for usage of the land would be quite disturbed by re-acquiring it or forcing a payment system which reduces their profit from the land. I would like more details on how the Interior department would determine the rates and collection methods in a way so as to not inconvenience the estate economies any more.

Sir, if I may ask - when have we not had a coup following (directly or indirectly) an election? It seems a long time ago.

I stand (along with the Navy and my nice Marines) behind the lawfully elected REPUBLIC. I hope my efforts as departing Chief of Staff and the efforts of all of the Chilean military (save, of course, the general whom I was reluctant to appoint for this very reason) will keep this time of mutiny as bloodless as possible.
