I don't believe I have voted yet (being a Chief of Staff and an admiral does keep one from Santiago a lot of the time due to inspections and meeting with the local commanders).

((I suppose its better late than never to join in. I've been following this thread as a guest for a good while, and finally decided to join the forums since I like paradox games so well.))

Background: Born in 1856 in the province of Talagante, de Escovedo was the product of a staunchly Catholic and Nationalist family. Alejandro quickly found himself embroiled in the politics of Talagante city, the capital of Talagante. He has always been a firebrand orator, making fools and enemies out of his opponents on many occasions and rising to the level of mayor. ((Hope that there is no mayor of Talagante... tell me if there already is one)). Now, Alejandro has his sights set on National change. He hopes that he can spur the conservative revolution from Talagante to occur throughout Chile. in his opinion, enemies of the state must be crushed, sedition must be repressed, immigration must be severely regulated, etc... Quick to voice his opinion, de Escovedo is vehemently and, on occasion, violently opposed to Socialism and Communism. To Alejandro, control of income is control of life, and must not be allowed in Chile.

To those of you who are on the sidelines: A vote for me is a vote for continued stability and prosperity! Additionally, if there is enough support for such a thing, I will attempt to decrease the size of the army, assuming that the CoS agrees. A vote for me is a vote for peace in our time! The policy of "State Capitalism" is meant to allow the government to construct additional factories to provide employment for those unemployed, as Capitalists can not be relied on to do such a thing if there is no profit to them.
While I respect my opposition, I must say that Rivera's coalition is eerily reminiscient of earlier events. I fear that his policies will lead to a divided Chile. An unstable Chile. A stagnating Chile. If I am elected President, I assure all of you that such a thing will not happen.

I am not sure what "earlier events" you refer to. I have consistently been a defender of democracy in Chile and lead the fight against the recent coup to ensure you would take your lawful place as the elected President.
I plan to have a small reduction in the size of the standing army, in order to fund an increase in our navy. As a growing world power we need a strong Navy in order to make sure our interests are protected globally.

I would think our continual economic success up until this point, which coincided to Laissez Faire economic policies, shows that Capitalists have not been mistreating the economy. But if the Socialists want their rhetoric, give them their rhetoric. By all means, perhaps our economy could have been even better if we had had more control of the economy.
Who knows, Chile can experiment together

I would say that no matter the result I am confident that the country will be in safe hands. While I would obviously prefer Presidente Gogolow, Senor Rivers has always been a stout defender of democracy and the country will be safe under his stewardship should he win.

It was not a statement aimed at you, Sir. It was merely an observation. This Left and Right division is eerily reminiscient of earlier events. Events which set into motion quite a few things.
I have not made such a statement. I did not state that the Capitalists were mistreating the economy. What I did say was that the Capitalists are unlikely to actively work for the reduction of unemployment.

While his views regarding the economy may not allow Chile to reach its full potential, I am optimistic about our new president. I only hope that he stays true to the conservative values that he ran on.
