(( What happened to the large Communist party? Why are there so few reds?

Rudders10, what country is the one in your flag?))

I am glad to see many people following the forces of reaction. We might not be lost, after all.

-Archbishop Fernandez

Don't forget that the remnants of my father's liberal faction ((largely myself)) have backed the good Senor as well, Archbishop. I certainly hope that Senor Rivera will represent our interests in his cabinet.

((As for why the communists are seemingly dead, I honestly don't know; perhaps they all got busy or are simply saddened by all their defeats... and how old is Rivera, since he's served in the Restoration; he's the oldest candidate, right (maybe even as old as Santa Rosa was)))

((I think it is his son :) and it's the new Zealand icon))

((Yeah, but Pedro has been around since the 1850's hasn't he? So he's about 60ish, isn't he? Santa Rosa was about 59.

I've also thought about how to divide this game into eras, and I've come up with this:

Second Republic, Romano Era 1833-1856
Moderate economic growth, military expansion, politically stable, ended with Andean Empire

Imperial, Roseno Era 1856-1863
Economic stagnation, military expansion, politcally unstable, ended with Restoration

Restoration, Liberal, Early Republican Santa Rosa Era 1863-1885/90
Massive economic growth, limited expansion, increasingly unstable, free market, ended with Santa Rosa's death/Gogolow's presidency

Middle Republican, Radical, Gogolow Era 1885/90-1905?
Probably economic slowness, military growth, extreme instability, far-right/left politics, ends with restoration of liberal/conservative politics?

Of course, this new period is really new, so I can't effectively define it or give it a name))
))

((The FNT only voted this time becUse they believe Gogolow will win no sweat, however I think they are in for a rude awakening. ))

((This has in the space of a day and a half become a very funny statement. Although this is definitely not no sweat, we should just about edge this.))

((Hmm, with the results of the current poll, a victory for the FNT would come at a hair's breadth. That is if we're going into the run-off elections; which we are, right? I'm a bit iffy on how that works.))

((as things stand you and Rivera would go into the runoff. You woukd need the communists to vote for you which I woukd imagine is preferable to them than the republicans))

(( I'm not sure you are actually tied into the reported economic states of the updates, though it would merit a double checking either way if we are building a comprehensive alternate chronology to the first page links.

I would also say we are still in the radical (in the generic snese) Republican era, as the Reaction seems inceptionary and by the updates there are still many socialists in parliament; and given the voter turnout demographically in the lower house there would be a number of communists and socialists following this election. Out of 13 votes, 7 are leftists. Slightly more than half the electorate are then socialists of some variety; and depending on the representational system that has ramifications for the composition of the lower house and what political reform repeals would be able to get squeezed through at what super-majority of the upper house, which is to say the player characters.

Maybe identifying each period with a single figure in politics is limiting, for instance in this case I think the Gogolow Era as it were both precedes and will succeed Gogolow's presidency itself. The FNT winning an election and the fact that no one rags on socialists any more, just on communists - and that's just the far right - the very nature of the current political environment has to do with the forging of a socialist-liberal coalition that has effects that are still being felt, even if the coalition itself is defunct. ))

((My memory may be somewhat fuzzy about some of the economic situations in each update, though I remember Badajoz had substantial growth, Romano's was much slower, Roseno had very limited growth, and I and my successors have had strong growth, but we are due for a crash probably this decade. So probably not entirely accurate, but close enough.

As for us being in the Republican Era, I would say that we have moved from the laissez-faire, leaning non-interventionist foreign policy of the era. Only Cortez's personal economic views and Andonie's war seemed to break the tradition set by my character (which is why I also called it the Santa Rosa Era). Gogolow may represent a continuation of the non-interventionism, but his economic policies represent the first real change since 1863, and a focal point of that period. However, this could be better put as a transitory period where we enter a sort of crossroads between the Republican tradition, or this new Radical ideology.

And I do agree with the single character, though the Second Republic was fairly conservative in nature (Badajoz's close wins, and Romano's easy victories), the Empire is intrinsically linked to Roseno, the early Third Republic was deeply influenced by my policies (especially economic, foreign policy less-so); I agree completely for this possible new period in Chile. This isn't a representative yet of the change, so Gogolow will kind of sit right in between the two, not fitting in with either. But likely this decade will be divided by the fascists and the communists, with the old left and right waiting for the next decade to reemerge.))

((Because clearly any era without Santa Rosa will have economic slowness and extreme instability :p))

((That too, but mainly because I think this economic prosperity of ours (almost four decades) has gone on too long; we bound to crash soon. And the stability will be on the assumption of the political radicals following the path I think they will; already we've seen the far right and left argue with one another. Pretty soon, the pressure is going to be too much.))

I change my vote to Rivera

From what? Gogołów? As a reminder, when changing a vote always say what you are changing it from or I will be very... cross.

((I don't think defining eras with one president only is the right thing to do. It's unfair for all the other presidents. My personal belief is that there are three categories, historically speaking: the Second Republic, the Empire and the Third Republic. Let's leave it at that. And I really don't think there will be an economic crash, because our growth is stable and based on factories that are running on our neighboors' resources (OTLA's secret goal). We have raw materials from Brazil and every other place in South America, so we won't be losing our growth yet ;) ))

((i would agree with that. The various republics and empire work better. Unless the Third Republic goes on for ages (unlikely) in which case it would need more definition,))
