((Oy, Renin! Why you smoke so many cigars? You be looking like a Cappie.))
Señor de Santa Rosa, my view on economy and Interventionist policy is to ensure that Workers do not lose their jobs. To bring about the goal of no unemployment, Government intervention must be possible. As is, Capitalists can not be relied on to do this as it might indeed impact their profits. That is why I do not support Laissez-faire. However, if there is enough support, then I could possibly moderate to Free Trade instead of Protectionism.

((I am the Socialist Canidate, since normal platforms don't really apply I would oppose corruption in the army, where we see generalships pass down hereditarily, I would try to keep our nation out of all wars unless completelly necessary and I want to create a wider range of people in the army not just your standard Liberals/Republicanos but some Communistas and members of the FNT. That's basically it))
A MESSAGE to the MEMBERS of the CONGRESO of CHILE
Before I begin, let me put one simple fact into the air: I do not intend to incorporate politics into my platform. Rather, I will speak of the military of Chile. Leave the politics for the Presidential candidates.
The last half-century has seen the meteoric rise of a Chilean Army, an army that has fought through a half-dozen coups and rebellions and felled an Empire under Cesar I. This army has fought on the soil of foreign lands, not the least of which include Bolivia and Argentina. As time progressed, as the Chilean economy grew and provided a larger budget for a growing populace, the Army grew as well, in both size and quality. We have seen many great generals in our past, including de Santa Rosa and Rivera, both supporters of the rebellion against the monarchy in 1863. These men provided to the Army three important qualities: expertise, discipline, and loyalty.
These three qualities in a man - and, no less, a many of leadership in Chile - are of the utmost importance. A General who is an expert in his field, be it logistics, guerrilla warfare, or defensive maneuvers, must know what he is doing in the field if he is to bring Chile a victory. A General who is a disciplined man, who knows when and where to retreat, to attack, to hold his ground, to command loyalty from his men, is a man that is demanded for Chile's Army. A General, finally, who has an air of loyalty about him, who knows that his service and duty is to the People of Chile and it's Grand Republic of a government - not the President in power, or the Chief of Staff, or for his own agenda, but for his people, his family and his neighbors, his stranger down the street, the farmer and the factory worker on the other side of the nation. Should a coup take place, the General must place his allegiance for the state - so long as it is indeed a true Democratic Republic, and not some poor despotic monarchy - and fight against those that would wish to change the government that has for so many years prospered, brought prosperity to it's people and it's new inhabitants, that also take to heart the Health of our grand Republic.
In terms of the aforementioned three qualities, I believe I am the best candidate for Chief of Staff. I myself have fought a coup against nationalist extremists that attempted (in vain) to topple our government; I then came to the head of an important position as the Commander of the Army of the South. I have, for years, held positions of authority within the military, training the men under my command to be the best soldiers they can be, for both themselves and for Chile.
I hope now that you shall all make the right choice.

I can assure you that I am a firm supporter of the free market. I do not wish to intervene in the economy unless it is strictly necessary. While in the past I have been a proponent of a larger government role in the economy, the economic prosperity and industrial growth I witnessed as a member of recent coalition governments has led to a change in my views. I now support free trade and wish to limit government intervention. I believe intervention is only necessary when there are market panics or shocks that would cause our factories to close and workers to be unemployed. In these circumstances I will intervene to protect our industry until the economy recovers. I also support subsidizing military industries to make sure we can supply our military will out having to rely on foreign production. This will keep the money we spend on our military in Chile employing Chileans. Other than in those limited areas I support a free market and allowing the capitalists and entrepreneurs to continue leading our industrial growth. I do not support any nationalization of private property.
While I am pro-military, I do not seek war. I support a strong military in order to deter foreign aggression and to defend the Republic. I oppose any further imperialist wars of conquest and only wish to defend Chile. We have had many wars in our history. I will not be seeking another one.

The Chilean army and navy are important institutions, as we have seen, for maintaining our peace and internal stability.
The Chilean military is a large and powerful institution, and has seen great service in many wars and in its long service protecting the Chilean people and our trade in peace. What is most needed these days is greater focus, efficiency, and neutrality. The Army and Navy officers who will bring the future of the Chilean military are those who can do their jobs well and without disruption, people who can keep a cool head as a counterbalance to any forces seeking to bring down democracy - with the military disclipined and principled, in loyalty to the Chilean people and the peace foremost, radicals will be less willing to attempt an overthrow than when the military is thrown about in confusion and corruption and there is hope for army support.
Our military has the power, the influence, and the courage to fight against any enemy, but we can refine this power into a flexible and efficient military that is not reliant on the good graces of powerful generals, that coordinates effectively, and which maintains and impenetrable defense against foreign militaries and other invasions of the peace of Chile. Ease of movement, defense, and balance should be emphasized in army composition and deployment.
As an admiral, and a governor during the construction of the Panama Canal, I believe I can best promote these reforms in the position of Chief of Staff to make a better and more peaceful Chile.

I have noticed a disturbing element in these elections for the Chief of Staff position. My opponents wear their political allegiances on their sleeves. They claim that they are the Socialist candidate, or the Communist candidate, or the National candidate. Myself, I am the army candidate. I owe allegiance to no party and no man. My sole concern is the protection of the Republic and wellbeing of its military forces.
If chosen, I will ensure that officers are selected on the basis of merit, not partisan loyalty. I will ensure that the army remains an instrument of the Republic, not a tool to be wielded by tyrants. It is imperative that the military remain an independent and impartial institution, to ensure the defence of Chile from her external enemies and the preservation of democracy from internal foes.

I do fear that Senor Juarez is reaching his height of votes not for his promises after achieving the position of Chief of Staff but simply for the fact that is left-wing man... correct me if I'm wrong, but I have not seen any of Juarez's statements on his promises should he be chosen as the next Chief of Staff.
