Severino has my support. This is outlandish and outrageous. We were promised a say in this administration, we cast our votes for this administration, but then this administration scolds us and tosses us aside. Adonie would not even be president if Severino had not stood aside.

Unless you were all going to vote communist, something you deny then I still would have won señor. If you were then that also proves my point.

"I urge Comrade Bautista to de-mobilize his men. We have absolutely no idea which side is the true aggressors, and what the Nationales will do if in fact control the state. But, we must mobilize the Red Guard units and the Revolutionary Democratic Front, in the event of new dictatorship."

((And Blindgoose is correct. Its revolutionary socialism for now. I RPed a Social Democrat (Sorta) In the FNT, just join them.))

In all likelihood they would have probably abstained and Tamiuszki would have won the election.

The 1881 Presidential Election

The 1881 Presidential Election did not see the knife-edge vote of 1876 or 1871. The Comunista-FNT Coalition, under Osvaldo Tamiuszski, received considerable support for the communist's radical candidacy and gave Tamiuszski an early lead. At one point early during the vote-counting, Tamiuszski actually managed to secure a strict majority of those ballots tallied (though it was not to last) and the remaining three parties responded with alarm. After a breakneck negotiation in Santiago, both the Republicano candidate Pedro Rivera and the Nacionales' nominee Valentin Severino both folded the race in short order, casting their support to the incumbent President Carlos Andonie, the Liberal Candidate. The so-called "Grand Coalition" as the papers would call it raced to a broad victory over Tamiuszski's red alliance. A final nail in the coffin came when the would-be FNT nominee, Sérgio Gogołów, refused to support the coalition (possibly still bitter over his primary defeat). From then on, Tamiuszski barely received another vote, and Andonie secured a strict majority of 178 votes to Tamiuszski's 114, with the remaining 13 abstaining or refusing to desert their withdrawn nominees.

The reds fought back in the Congreso, winning a minor victory when their nonpartisan nominee for Army Chief of Staff, Martin Schmidt, managed to once again overcome a trio of competitors (notably Sebastian Roseno). However, the victory seemed shallow compared to another failure to take La Moneda Palace and Santiago, particularly when Schmidt emerged as an Andonie supporter.

Andonie, flushed with victory and confident of his mandate from the margin of his victory, announced a new cabinet shortly after the election. The cabinet featured a purge of Nacionales from the ranks of the cabinet in a betrayal of the promises made to the Grand Coalition during the election. Valentin Severino, who had withdrawn from the race in favor of Andonie on the understanding of power for the Partido Nacional, quarreled angrily with Andonie after the announcement. The President, however, would not be swayed and told Severino that the Nacionales' support had never been essential for his election. Severino, after determining that Andonie could not be impeached for a simple broken promise, decided to take matters into his own hands. He walked into La Moneda, flanked by loyal Nacionales, and arrested the President.

-------------------------

Player Actions Needed:
Valentin Severino has declared a coup to install Pedro Rivera as the President of the Republic. This is an election night coup, so the sitting and not the incumbent ministers and generals must vote, either For Andonie or For the Coup.

Those individuals are:
Minister of the Interior - V Severino ((Syriana))
Minister of the Treasury - Romano ((Pallen))
Minister of Foreign Affairs - Subercasseux ((Lyonessian))
Minister of War - Aragon ((zagoroth))
Minister of Political Affairs - De Santa Rosa((Riccardo93))

Army of the North - General Roseno ((King50000))
Army of the South - General Miramontes ((Ivir Baggins))
Army of Patagonia - General Rivera ((atomicsoda))
Reserve Army - General Alvarez ((Maxwell500))
Navy - Admiral Zepeda ((thekinguter))

Again, I announce my support for Andonie. However, I do agree with Severino on the gross mistreatment of the Nationales, despite their pivotal role in the Liberale victory. Once this business is done, I urge Andonie to make amends with them.

((Also how did the Guyana Conference, Argentina Question, and Reforms wind up? I think we're going to have the Conference, declare war on Argentina, and have Secret Ballots, right?))

Senor Andonie has been detained for his indecent acts against the people and the Republic of Chile, for his betrayal of solemn electoral promises and for his stifling of democracy and popular sovereignty.

This a fait accompli. Senor Andonie has attempted to smear this action as an insurrection against the government, but it is not. I have no quarrel with the incoming cabinet or Senor Andonie's military appointments. My sole concern is to bring an end to Senor Andonie's illegitimate presidency and allow Senor Rivera to assume power as Provisional President. I leave in the hands of the latter the business of government, and he may exercise it however he wishes.

There is no need for bloodshed. Senor Andonie refused to step down quietly, but his ministers are not so foolish. They can still preserve order in the Republic by acquiescing to his deposition and accepting Senor Rivera's interim presidency. They have no reason to fear me, for I have no qualms with them. I do not wish to interfere in the new government or seize power for myself. I am satisfied simply with bringing Senor Andonie to justice.

¡Patriotas, uníos! Salvar a la República, mantener la paz!

- V. Severino

((For the Coup, obviously.))

I stand with Severino and his arrest of the president. Andonie has gone too far, he has destroyed democracy and suppressed the Nacionales. This man has no place being president!

Fear not my friend, our liberation of Buenos Aires shall recommence as soon as I have made sure that Northern Patagonia is safe. My men are not thugs and seek merely to establish stability and peace so that the ordinary man can continue to live and provide for himself without the threat of bandits and outlaws taking advantage of these uncertain political times. My men shall act merely as a people's police force, one that will disband as soon as either the government squashes this reactionary coup.

Truly, I find it disheartening to think that my fellow Communistas are content to simply watch from the sidelines. I urge them to join me in the region by region defense of Chile against the terrors of war.

--Basilio Bautista--

"Comrade, I am not saying leave ourselves undefended. In fact, I just asked for the Revolutionary Democratic Front to be mobilized. But, moving a large amount a troops away from a near victory, and into an area where there isn't even a conflict, isn't a sound strategic choice. As well, you are merely provoking the reactionaries to take the war to the peasants with that kind of maneuver. Let these politicians settle their scores in the Presidential Palace, while we maintain vigilance in the name of the worker."

-Comrade Armando Renin

Because I value your council and because I understand just how close we are to victory, I have decided that my Guerreros currently stationed in the suburbs of Buenos Aires shall remain there to help you liberate Argentina. While I hand my men over to you, it is my duty to Chile and especially to my birthplace (northern Patagonia) to ride south and incite mi amigos and allies in the region to act as peace keepers until the storms of war subside. Be sated in the knowledge that the Communist forces in Argentina shall only be decreased by one man.

Wish me luck as I ride for La Patagonia comrade! And if I die fighting off banditos ((TH please don't kill me)) then remember me as a martyr of the people!

--Basilio Bautista--

FOR ANDONIE!

I said previously I was afraid of the republicanos-nacionales. I knew something similar would happen. I am with Andonie, even if it means my death.

You have no say here. It's only between ministers and generals.
