((Ah, B*******. However, I still don't understand why a party is forced into a coalition if only one part of the potential coalition is in favour.))

You're not the party, Dyranum. By my count, both parties were in favor of a coalition, and I just recounted to confirm that. Unless there was some odd vote swapping that I missed (and I saw yours), then you can blame Viola and Welshdude for your current circumstance, as they both voted in favor of coalitions.

The only real proponents of socialism? Excuse me good Sir, but that does not sound like a rational statement. The FNT has and always will stand for Socialism. Just because we refuse to use senseless violence to achieve our goals like you do does not mean that we are not proponents of Socialism.

The FNT is obviously a bourgeois party. We are a workers' party.

"Comrade Acevedo, our struggle does not end with Socialism. It ends with true Communism. Renaming ourselves the Socialist Party merely gives the image that this is all we want. Socialism. I do not support such a changing of the Party's name."

-Comrade Armando Renin

((It just seems a bit anachronistic to have a de jure Communist party so early (I don't know any before 1900)))

Hmph, you are the kind of man who would bring ruin to the people, not prosperity. And to turn your statement against yourself: You are obviously a servant of the reactionaries, trying to cause a split in the Left that would separate it into two mutually hostile sides.

((Yeah, but AFAIK there were 2 votes for a coalition with the Commies, one abstainee and two in favour for a coalition with the Liberals. That doesn't make the FNT in favour of a coalition with the Commies. It makes it hopelessly divided on that point. Indecisive.))

No, it doesn't because WelshDude voted for both Liberal and Comunista coalition, so both had two votes OUT OF THREE VOTES CAST. That's a majority for both.

((What the? Okay, did not notice that. That's mighty confusing.))

And you're the kind of man who would enslave the workers, "for their own good" and "so as not to loose votes from the centre". But, for the moment we are partners so I apologize for hurting your pride. I thought it a was a truism.

Your insolence is most vexing. You are the kind of man who would slaughter the worker. One who would senselessly waste away lives! Might I also remind you who the original proponent of Socialism in Chile is? The FNT is a Socialist Party. A Party not focused on bloody revolution and senseless waste of human lives. I do not know about the rest of the Communist Party, but you Sir are one who would waste lives needlessly. One who proposes that the ends always justify the means.

(( Mighten the Communist-Socialist coalition support Schmidt for Chief of Staff? His character has always been apolitical, hasn't he?

Also, if we are discussing a name for a permanently merged far left party or just a new name for the Communists, isn't Workers Party a nice agreeable non-sectarian name that neither says we're happy just with socialism nor implies a violent revolution as the goal. If the goal is to keep the socialists a separate party but not to offend them and to keep them our coalition partners, then rather than impeaching their credibility as a party for the worker, why don't we just call ourselves the Democratic Revolutionary Front or Revolutionary Democratic Front or whatever it was? That's not stained with most of the paramilitary activity, as that's been primarily the Red Guards and now your vanguard or whatever the group is called now, Cesar. So the original front name has a genuine description of the gist of the party without being too menacing nor being sectarian or stepping on the socialists' toes. ))

"I urge all Comunistas and Socialistas to vote for General Schmidt for Chief of Staff. He is the only candidate who has proven himself to be non-partisan! The other candidates victory would mean enemies of our parties as the heads of the military!"

My insolence? Who are you to see insolence in my words? Someone superior to me? Where does this feeling of superiority come from, if not from an infatuated ego? You basically tell me I a moral-less man who slaughters Chileans for his own good (you must have forgotten the part when I eat little girls). This a perfect definition for a bourgeois. Someone who would rather make a deal with the liberal devil (in a Marxist view) than forming a democratically elected coalition with people sharing the same views concerning the social rights. Reminds you of someone?

And you seem to know me better than I do. I'm a butcher and at the same time I sit everyday at this Congresso. What a busy man I am. I sit here and I vote. I vote because I believe the change will be done through a democratic process. Please, don't think for me, I'm able to do it myself.

I change my vote for the CoS: Schmidt ((Previously abstain))

Army Chief of Staff: Schmidt

((Updated platform. Tried to PM to TH but his mailbox is full. Please update with this))

My vision for Chile is prosperity, stability and security. We must establish a stable democracy while making sure our economy is prosperous and we have a strong military to deter foreign aggression and remain independent of foreign influence.

Economy: Interventionism. I support a free economy while allowing to the government to support strategic industries, such as military industries and other strategic goods. I also support supporting industry and workers in the event of bad markets so that we have stability in our economy and workers do not lose their jobs. I support minimum safety standards in all workplaces and if the upper house will allow I will implement them.

Military: Pro-Military. We must maintain a strong military in order to deter foreign aggression and foreign influence and remain truly independent. I support expanding the Navy as well as supporting and encouraging military industries in Chile.

Trade: Protectionism. I support keeping the current low tariff as it is serving industry and the nation well. I do however believe that we must maintain the flexibility to raise tariffs if necessary due to war or to balance the budget.

Religion: Moralism. I support the traditional influence the Church has had on Chilean society and believe the Church should continue to have a central role in Chilean life.

Citizenship: Limited Citizenship. Immigration has been good for Chile and I will continue to support the rights of immigrants to come and settle in Chile. I believe that immigrants should assimilate into our culture if they wish to take a full role in Chilean society.

((I think the none of the names need to be changed at the moment, as no party is merging. The Armed Wing is the Revolutionary Democratic Front and thats it.))

COS vote changed from Abstain to Schmidt.
