General Miramontes,

Here is your chance to be a hero of the Republic. To be one who threw back the tyranny of the reactionaries and fought for the side of Chile and all of its people. Come forth now and let us hear you.

Carlos Andonie
Presidente of Chile

General Miramontes,

Conversely, this is your chance to bring peace and stability, not to mention TRUE democracy, to our glorious nation. Do not be fooled by these vile bureaucrats, for they, not I, strive for complete control of Chile. Democracy is the last thing on their minds for they are too pre-occupied with their own ideologies to do what is right for Chile.

--General Angelo Araya--

And you strive for a presidential dictatorship! That is not democracy, that is not republicanism; that is tyranny!

Both of you are right. A bourgeois democracy is no democracy. A presidential dictatorship is no democracy. The dictatorship of the proletariat is the true form of democracy. Power by the people, for the people.

Mob rule doesn't work, especially on a grand scale... Athens, the shining symbol of democracy, collapsed due to its own ineffectiveness. Only a Republic, more separated and regulated than the Roman system, will prevent both mob rule and a tyranny from arising.

If you want the people to have more power, we must continue to devolve our powers! A limited government, a free Republic, a stable nation!

"I have waited for a long time to give my judgement, for many reasons. As a nationalist, I would be attracted to Araya's side. He is also a friend of mine, and he has often contacted me. On the other hand, I support social reform, something which I cannot see any imperialist granting. I also do not wish to dishonour my position, or myself, since to do so is worse than death.

"Neither side is particularly attractive to me. On the one side, we have a Liberal government with a strong Socialist faction waiting in the wings; something I dislike, since I am not certain of their capacity to protect and honour the Chilean nation. The other side, however, is imperialistic, and I can never accustom myself to an empire. Such thing are the bane of the common people.

"I must now grant my judgement. I do not choose to fight for Liberalism, but for Chile. I did not choose to fight for a Viceroyalty either, but for Chile. Of the two options, I pick the lesser of the evils. I am declaring my support for the government. I do this because even though the outgoing president has dishonoured it, the currently legitimate government of Andonie has been approved by the people. Liberalism may be bad for Chile, but a new viceroyalty would be even worse.

"I have one final word to say. Much of the Republicano right wing voted for the FNT so that the FNT would win and they'd be able to stage their coup."

General Severiano Miramontes
Commander of the Army of Patagonia

((Well, this coup went well... did the incoming Chief of Staff support the coup? Schmidt, right?))

It seems the voice of liberty shall be heard in Chile once more. I thank all the honourable patriots that stood by the legitimate government of the 3rd Republic, and await swift measures against the leeches and traitors of our homeland.

- Minister Lorenzo Subercaseaux

General, I am delighted at your decision obviously, not only does it help preserve democracy but it vindicates my trust in you. I must confess I had doubts about your loyalties and am glad to be proved wrong. I look forward to working with you as we look to make Chile the place it can be.

It also proves my fears were right about the reactionaries trying to engineer a Socialist victory so they could stage a coup. A callous brand of politics if ever I saw one. I can assure you that myself, my cabinet and our Armies will bring these criminals to justice.

Presidente Andonie

((I want to know what Vargas' opinion would be if he hadn't retired. And also, Araya was expecting me to be on his side.))

((It would have been pretty close if you had sided with him. 2 Armies V 1 Army, the capital stack and mobilization..))

((With the capital stack being led by the experienced and just better all around General Sebastian Roseno :p
But with Miramontes siding with us, looks like we won't even need to use the capital stack :())

((I knew the timing of this coup was pretty poor. Oh well, better luck next time.

If there is one after all. Time to make a new character after next update xD))

"Andonie, I just want to say this. Just because I support you in this matter does not mean I will support you in any other matters."

I am aware of that Sir, it is only your loyalty to the state that matters. Of course in any other matters I would expect you to follow your own beliefs.
