((Concerning the name, I think Communist Party is both anachronistic (before Stalin) and cliché. I took the name of the first Marxist party in Chile (Partido Obrero Socialista) and added "de Chile". It's a mere suggestion, to sound more authentic.))

Inbox cleared, for all those of you who have been trying to PM me.

((Wow... gone for a few hours and four new pages... o_O ))

I vote for the incumbent Carlos Andonie for president, and Sebastian Roseno for Chief of Staff.

((If we're just going to re-merge split parties then it is no point in splitting them, is there? There's a reason why some stayed in the FNT. The moderates. If we're just going to endlessly split and merge parties then it is no point in splitting them at all! Besides, the Commies and FNT-ers are quite different, I say.))

My insolence? Who are you to see insolence in my words? Someone superior to me? Where does this feeling of superiority come from, if not from an infatuated ego? You basically tell me I a moral-less man who slaughters Chileans for his own good (you must have forgotten the part when I eat little girls). This a perfect definition for a bourgeois. Someone who would rather make a deal with the liberal devil (in a Marxist view) than forming a democratically elected coalition with people sharing the same views concerning the social rights. Reminds you of someone?

And you seem to know me better than I do. I'm a butcher and at the same time I sit everyday at this Congresso. What a busy man I am. I sit here and I vote. I vote because I believe the change will be done through a democratic process. Please, don't think for me, I'm able to do it myself.

I change my vote for the CoS: Schmidt ((Previously abstain))

((In this case, I'm using the word insolence by the definition of "arrogant conduct". You're misinterpreting my language.))

I did not say that you were a butcher. I simply stated my observations and assumptions, derived from your jingoistic behaviour. Also, might I suggest that you consult a dictionary?

I would like to withdraw my candidacy as Chief of Staff, and vote for Sebastian Roseno instead. He's clearly the man for the job.

((Sebastian is just as non-partisan as Schmidt, even more so.))

((Just because I'm ambivalent and you're so insistent. :p))

Army Chief of Staff: Sebastian Roseno

I know it is a hassle but I would like to change my Chief of Staff vote from Abstain to Col. Schmidt

((When I say partners I mean coalition partners. I conscientiously misinterpreted. Twisting other people's words around to look like a working class hero is basic communist rhetoric :p))

Jingoistic behaviour? I'm more of a cleaning man, really.

Huge picture

((...Oh come on, how am I supposed to respond to such a silly picture? Consider this to be Sérgio's response: "..."))

((Why so much controversy about Sebastian Roseno?))

Army Chief of Staff: Roseno

In recent years, our country has been divided between two opposites: the Liberales on one side, and the Marxistas on the other. I come to offer you an alternative: one which embodies the respectability of the former with the innovative thinking of the latter. A party that embraces tradition, but not stagnation; a party that celebrates the Republic in its present form, but seeks to make it greater still. The Partido Nacional Democrático.

This party is the new bastion of the republican cause. I have nothing but respect for Senor Rivera, but the Partido Republicano itself is an elderly man, deserving of retirement. Inertia has brought it into this election, but momentum cannot be maintained for another five years. That is why myself and others founded the Partido Nacional Democrático - to carry on the legacy of the Republicanos as the champion of the Chilean Republic against the agents of disorder and radicalism. To ensure that Chile maintains the qualities that have brought her peace, liberty and prosperity.

If you choose to elect me as your President, I can guarantee with clarity what advances we shall reap in five years:

A united South America, speaking in one voice for the first time since the days of Simón Bolívar. Under the auspices of the common treaty, Chile shall become the supreme representative of South America, upholding her common interests on the world stage and affecting the final liberation of the Americas from European influence. No longer will South America be isolated or exploited, or considered a theatre of secondary importance. The world will heed us; our opinion shall carry from London to Paris, and all the statesmen of Europe shall be forced to abide by it. This is true independence: the culmination of the efforts of our founding fathers, who fought to create a South America sovereign and indivisible, acting on its own accord without regulation by foreign powers.

A grand and powerful navy - the greatest in the Southern Hemisphere - patrolling the coasts and navigating the expanses of the Pacific and the Atlantic, protecting South America from the predatory foreign practices that have been the bane of Turkey and China. In this modern world, a nation's worth is measured in its fleet; and our fleet shall be suitably representative of our worth. Our naval assets will turn South America into an impenetrable island, free to exercise its opinions and exert its will without fear of British gunboats appearing outside their capitals.

A strong and stoic army, the defender of the continent - loyal yet capable, bound to the Republic but not strangled by political overseers. The defence of South America must be fought on both land and sea. A great army will secure us and our brother nations from foreign threats, maintain law and order within our environs and force those who previously treated us with disdain to reckon with our might.

All this is available to you now. But it requires a steady hand to steer such a magnificent vessel as our Republic. I believe I am that hand, for I have been studying the specifications of this ship for decades. I know what it requires to stay on the path of greatness, and not stray into oblivion. I shall not falter at the helm. Rather, I will set a course for a glorious destination, which shall make Chile the envy of the Americas - the brightest jewel in the obsolete Spanish Crown.

Dios salve a la República! Voto Nacional Demócrata!

- V. Severino

(( Actually I can't imagine a Communist choosing an ex-Imperial prince who has been living as a grandiose officer for years over a dutiful general staff colonel who has worked his way up through the ranks and put in his time and stayed out of politics. ))
