((Left out my character. I'll be making a new one, as my current character will retire due to his support for the Imperialist government.))

Manuel Armando Prieto de las Casas has announced that he will be retiring from politics in order to tend to his families business interests in Potosí. The chaos of the past several years has left him highly disenchanted with Chilean politics and he is not likely to return to the political arena. Manuel dies of natural causes on his family estate in 1867 at the age of 67.

A New Character - Ferran Jaume Prieto i Martí

almirallvg.jpg

DOB: 12 Enero, 1840
Party: Partido Comunista
Issues: Planned Economy, Protectionism, Anti-Military, Atheism, Full Citizenship
Hometown: Potosí, Potosí, Chile
Residence: Santiago, Santiago, Chile
Office: Senator for Santiago; Mayor of Santiago, Professor at the Universidad de Chile, Founder of the Santiago Communist League

Bio: Born to wealthy aristocrats in Potosí, Ferran grew up with luxury and privilege. He was educated by the best of private tutors and attended Universidad de Chile before attending Oxford University and receiving a Doctorate of Philosophy and Economics. While at Oxford he became acquainted with the writings of Hegel and subsequently Marx. He became a convinced socialist upon reading the histories of the various revolutions during the Springtime of Nations and visiting the factories and slums in which the English working-class suffered. He returned to Chile after the fall of the Empire and took up a position at the Universidad de Chile, teaching Philosophy and was one of the founders of the Santiago Communist League - one of the constituent groups which led to the formation of the Partido Socialista. His father retired from politics and trained his older brother to take over the family business', leaving Ferran nothing due to his fathers perception that he had betrayed his family by not supporting the Empire and by espousing socialist politics.

He was elected Mayor of Santiago in 1871 and became a spokesman for the radical wing of the FNT, advocating social revolution and a workers' state. In 1873, Marti attended a conference hosted by Karl Marx which was responsible for the publication of "The Communist Agenda". He advocates for communist politics within the FNT, seeing it as a mass workers' organization which is capable of taking on revolutionary politics. In 1881, Ferran took part in the founding of the Partido Comunista and became one of its prominent figures having served as Mayor for a decade now and being one of the theoretical elders of the party due to his part in the publishing of "The Communist Agenda" and building the nascent Communist movement from his classroom by recruiting promising young philosophy students. Despite the number of coups during his tenure as Mayor, Santiago has never fallen to the forces of reaction. In the election of 1886, Ferran was elected Senator for Santiago after fifteen years of service as Mayor.

((OK, my cabinet is finished... our French Ambassador will be an NPC, unless someone wants it... but who would want to be in France? :p))

((Ya who would want that position? It'd be crazy to even suggest that someone take that position ;) ))

All hail the new President of Chile! May he bring stability and democracy back to our proud lands!

I counted 25 on your list. Good job!

Who wouldn't want to be in France as an ambassador. It's like free holidays in Paris, since I don't think there are many important missions to do in France other than suck up to them badly.

That is true.. maybe it was a bad idea for you to turn down the position, Senor Angelo. Nights on the Riviera, with those beauteous Mademoiselles! But, it was your choice!

Alright, so now's about the time for the next update. It looks like Antonio de Santa Rosa easily won his confidence vote, so Riccardo93, I need your appointments to proceed. After I get them, I'll issue the update. (Don't forget to include your policy priorities and objectives for your time in office.)

((There's my character too, Pablo Germán Subercaseaux, born 1804, heir of oligarch family in Valparaíso, lifelong journalist, pamphletist, liberal, editor of the Aurora de Chile, now legal))

Thank you for your concern over my passing up the position of ambassador to France Santa Rosa, but my place is here in Chile. I feel that it would be more important to help oversee our southern and expel the last vestiges of Rosenoism from Patagonia. An the position of ambassador to France, while an enjoyable post for the self-centered, clashes with my personal belief that Chile must be full of not just the strong and the experienced bureaucrats, but also loyal and dedicated ideologues, like myself, who pledge their loyalty first and foremost to our glorious nation.

-Angelo Araya

((OK, I think I have everything turned in; if not ask me what you need TH, and I'll answer as best as I can...))

I want to take this opportunity to thank all those who supported me; during this transitory period, I and my cabinet will work to restore order throughout Chile, protect Republican values, and work to improve our economy. Together, we can make Chile even greater! Viva la Republica!

I am honored to be given a command within the Army. I shall do my best to show that it will not be a mistake.
I shall begin aiding the Bolivian Government in re-establishing itself and retraining its army. I also request my army be renamed the Army of Bolivia-Peru, and that I be given responsibility over both our former Bolivian and Peruvian territories. This way the Army of the North can consentrate on our long border with Argentina without stretching itself thin.

((OK, my cabinet is finished... our French Ambassador will be an NPC, unless someone wants it... but who would want to be in France? :p))

((Perhaps de Vallenare can be sent to France [shudders] as a reprieve from execution. Or perhaps his son, Oscar, as an exile with honour?))

((Perhaps de Vallenare can be sent to France [shudders] as a reprieve from execution. Or perhaps his son, Oscar, as an exile with honour?))

I'll allow the Congreso to decide that.

As well, I agree with your idea General Roseno; your forces will protect that border, whilst the Army of the North will protect our Argentine/Brazilian border, with the Army of the Rio de las Platas serving mainly as a reserve force. And General Arraya knows his orders already (finish any Imperial pockets, provide stability in the South)

My men shall purge the land of any remaining imperialists and bring peace to the South. I am honored to be held in such high regard that you may present me with this task and I hope to continue to prove myself worthy of your trust. Let the South ring with praise for your administration and the re-democratization of Chile

-Gen. Angelo Arraya

I myself request funds from the Ministry of the Treasury to begin constructing forts and other such defenses along the border under my jurisdiction. If a proper defense is to be expected during times of war, we must already have defensive fortifications in place so as to not tire out our troops before the actual battles commence. The defensive technologies we have gained in the past few years from observing the Prussian and American armies should assist us in this.

-General of the Army of Bolivia-Peru, Sebastian Roseno
