Prelude – Year 2011 through 2025.

It finally happened. The war to end all wars broke out in the Fall of 2011 and one faction soon proved to be more ruthless than even the Japanese Samurais. More cunning than anyone else. And with better planning then even the most hard-core communists. And since they belonged to no one country, a worldwide federation of people committed to conquering the world – To exploit the masses – To rule the lower classes – To unite in their own image the fractured people of Humanity! The faction would be known as The Paradoxians to the future generations and the result was the Paradoxian Federation which came into effect at the end of the war in 2023.

The Paradoxians next turned their eyes away from the Earth. There was nothing more to invade, no enemies (except a few rebels from time to time) and no places to explore. It was at that time that the Scientists devised a radical new thinking. This was called the “Trans-Newtonian Theory”. It was defined and put into effect on the 1st of January 2025, along with a few additional reseach projects.

At this time, Earth was home to 800 mio. Inhabitants. There were 40 Research Laboratories in operation around the world and 8 Shipyards in various size could be converted to building spaceships. It was deemed that the majority of the industry would be converted to modern set-up, but no ships or Ground units would be available before updated research was made.

A call therefore went out to the Paradoxians. There would be need for administrators and naval officers – for scientists and for groups force commanders. There would be New frontiers to explore – New resources to exploit – New projects to examine and hopefully new Species to conquer!!

-------

Game Setup.

I am not going to go into complete details at this time, to keep some surprises for the actual gameplay. What I will say is:

Population: 800 mio.
Research Facilities: 40
Shipyards: 8

Precursors ON
Swarm and Invaders OFF (For now)

Political Reliability OFF
Realistic Promotions ON – To offset this, any Paradoxian which sign up for duty will get a medal improving their score to ensure promotions faster than NPC's.

Maintenance ON
Jump Gates OFF
Inexperienced Fleet Penalty ON
Real World Stars ON

Current Galaxy Map can be seen below 1/1-2060.

Please be aware that this will be a slower developing game that Blue Emu's game, since we are starting without research and ships to better mimic the beginning Trans-Newtonian Era. Therefore the first updates will cover a greater period of time than usual. As the game unfolds, time will slow down as well.

Our journey will commence Friday 30th of September.

Applications to join the coming exploration of space are now accepted.

I'll apply for a position as a survey ship commander as well. It'll help me see more action than as a scientist, I'd bet, even if the action boils down to "hey, that's a pretty big thermal sour-*boom*".
Also, no Swarm? That's kinda a pity; they probably won't generate in old systems already explored if/wen we turn it on, after all, and it'd give us something once we're blowing Precursors up left and right. Just a thought.

Time to boldly go where no Paradoxian has gone before!

I agree with that assessment :)
BTW, how many NPC races will there be, and what tech level are they starting off with?

I have to get in on this when it's early, if there's going to be any hope for me to keep interest.

I'd like to be a naval commander. I will fight politically to try and bury randakar, my rival! (if this requires me to be on a geo-survey ship at first, then so be it!)

4 Paradoxians added - I will update with traits and bonusses when I get home.

Swarm will be turned on when we have surveyed 2 jumps from Sol and have reached a certain level in tech (fairly low I promise).

We have 2 enemies which are starting at roughly the same tech level as us "somewhere among the stars" + 40% chance of generating a new race in each system that we explore with a suitable planet. And there is 1000 systems included. We might find one of the 2 in the first system or not in 100 years of gameplay.

Lord Isaac Strange would like to sign up as a researcher in Power and Propulsion.

I will sign up for a Naval role. I will take any position available (desk job, scout, freighter, etc) but I hope that I (or my son/daughter) will eventually command a Fleet Carrier.

This seems interesting, but I will require someone to hold my hand. What would my fellow Paradoxians suggest I should choose as job?

Judging from our first game, Ad Astra... interesting things happen to people with ship commands. Just ask Billy Bob. Unfortunately, they are also the usual people that BAD things happen to. Spies also face considerable risks, as Vonyx and x2z discovered. A planetary governor's job, research or desk jobs are safer, but less eventful.

It doesn't particularly matter, whatever appeals to you. Geosurvey pilots tend to die horrible deaths while gravsurvey pilots get all the glory, though.

So I'm in as a geosurvey pilot again.

LOL.
So what did I do to you? :p

(hmm .. in this game, naval vessels can fire upon each other, can't they? :D)

I don't really care where I'm put. Survey vessels of any kind are fine. If not, I'd like something with firepower.
