I don't think that it's even possible to "hide" IC in the game, i.e. no such modding command exists. Yeah, their MP is pretty much endless, but that's to be expected. Even Japan doesn't have any grave MP problems.

The Chinese Army is also much less supply-intensive than ours. Most of their units have no additional support brigades - they rely on numbers. Their militia have very low supply consumption which is further decreased by doctrines (which decrease the supply consumption of INFs as well). Even if they are weak, they still decrease the STR and ORG losses of INFs (and they even have some MTNs), because the damage is spread over a larger number of units. High morale allows them to recover their ORG quickly and we have to cover a long frontline. Moreover, they are reconquering lost core territory, so they are increasing their potential while doing so, which in a way can "repay" their losses. They also receive various bonuses and they are designed in such way so as to increase the natural Chinese strengths, so everything is harder. However, they are also actually receiving some debuffs as well at this stage, so in some ways they are weaker than they would be "normally".

I think that deficiencies of our long-term planning are now bitting us in the ass. Just as Japan did IRL, we planned for a short war with several decisive strikes that were supposed to bring the Chinese down. In many ways we did better than Japan did IRL and initially our progress was very impressive, but eventually we bogged down and now major problems are starting to show up. We decided to ignore bombers and for a long time we ignored MTNs (we still don't have any MTN divs) and we don't have that many ENGs, so we lack the "punch" in western China. The USA attacked us, so we were forced to devote a big chunk of our budget for ship production. We've also been on the offensive almost continuously, always thinking that the end of the war was near and this wore many of our troops out and overstretched us, so now the Chinese are attacking.

What we ignored, we ignored because we had to decide whether we want to be rather bad in a lot of fields or up to date in a limited number of fields. We chose the latter, which I think is the wisest thing we could do. We knew that war at sea would come as well, so we had to cover everything with a very limited budget. Frankly, I do not see what big mistakes we made. Judging with hindsight or judging knowing both sides and not only ours is always a lot easier than actually making decisions.

I never claimed otherwise.

Anyway, I never envisioned the game as the one for the faint-hearted ;). Arguably Japan should be the most challenging major country to play, as historically they had the lowest chance of actually achieving their goals, i.e. conquering China, creating the Co-Prosperity Sphere, achieving a dominant position in the Pacific and signing peace with the USA. That's why I introduced the scores and specific VCs.

TBH we are still doing better than Japan historically did, since there was no Midway, we control a bigger chunk of China, we are dominant in the Pacific ATM and we are not at war with half of the world yet :). Also, China in itself is not a threat to Japan - even if they managed to push us back to Korea the best result they could get would be a favourable peace treaty and preventing us from winning the game, but they wouldn't cause us to surrender.

Yeah, you guys are doing pretty damn well. It'd be nice if you could come to some sort of peace agreement with the US though. They were the ones who declared war on you, and there was no Pearl Harbor. You'd think the isolationists would be frothing at the mouth now that so many of their ships went to the bottom for no real reason.

Sure, but the Americans are rebuilding their Navy ATM and even now they have more carriers than we do and they think that they will beat us by attrition. I don't know whether the Democrats will win the next elections, though. They are not as popular as they once were, because of all the dissent the USA got when choosing "They went too far" option, losing their Prides several times etc. However, if the Americans make no progress for a long time, then obviously their population will demand peace.

Please note that, in the interest of clarity we have slightly revised the rules for interactive AARs. It is in your interests to read the revision here. In particular note that in future in addition to the usual forum penalties for breach of the rules we may consider banning individuals from a particular thread (this would most likely be instead of closing the thread)

That's good then. You guys have hope if you just hold out!

I think that's all we can hope for in the pacific, keeping our advantage and preventing the US from gaining back anything they attempt to.

On terms of resources, did you Cybvep post up our current production of each resource somewhere so that I can evaluate how much tech research helps us out again on metal. I've lost whatever caluculation I did on this since its not in my game folder.

Pretty much. Protect our convoys, defend our islands, (hopefully) score one Midway after another and if the Republicans win the 1944 elections, then the USA will sign the peace treaty with Japan. Depending on the final outcome of the Pacific War, the exact content of the treaty may vary, though. We also don't know how the UK will behave.

Here is info from April 1942 - click.

To the imperial general staff

No matter how we decide to use our production now we will regret it later, and while I very much would like to use all production right now for the army, the simple fact is that if we can't beat off the US navy there is no reason to have an army as it will just sit out of supplies in China waiting to die.
Wrong thread!

Is that an actual event, or one that you'll be writing? Since I don't think I've ever seen the Americans fire a peace with me as Japan in normal HPP.

@ Yamamoto: Should we invest a bit into destroyers? They seem surprisingly good at hunting subs although we didn't invest much in them up to now.

@ Surt & Holy: Don't you think we should invest more in land doctrines? Will radar be useful in China? How about more airfields? Haven't seen you requesting them.

We could invest a bit more into destroyers. But we've completed a few techs to that effect already. I do not feel it needs a major priority initive. This is because it is the area to patrol that is so big for us with all our islands, it becomes impossible for us to cover our supply lines in the end. Therefore our ASW is never really going to net us a victory.

Historically the IJN didn't take the shipping threat seriously enough, and that's why late war they tried to build a massive number of destroyers with the aim of sinking US subs, post-war analysis showed this hurt the IJN strategy as it left less resources for their warships, and an increase in merchant shipping would have added Japan better because it would allow more supplies to 'get through' when they were needed, rather than trying to sink US subs which could wait anywhere along the long transit routes from base to base.

Indeed we have it even worse in this game as our supplies all have to come from Mainland Japan, we can't set Saipan up as a supply hub or any other islands to that effect, thus increasing our operational coverage far more than historically. Still I don't see a huge deal we can do in the economic war other than to continue trade with South America until we are really low on our merchant ships.

EDIT: The best thing we could do is mass produce escort ships and make our convoys extra heavy defended so that the US submarrines can't even begin to attack them. However the amount of organisation of supply routes would be prohibative for the administration, although in principle a few months endevour could produce an 'untouchable' merchant fleet. That could be an opition other than laying the Battleship hull, however it would be up to the adminstration if they feel they could handle the extra work?

Land doctrines are still rather good for the millitary. Although Officer and Solider training could be improved, the former would greatly aid our officer recruitment ability. I might highlight as well, that pending our current research and given some time, that the IJA improve their infantry technologies ahead of year, looking for semi and automatic rifle small arms, heavy machineguns as defensive weapons, and new medium morters for offensive capabilities.

A good point on industry, at least we can focus only on efficency in the immidate future, given resource needs, this is one less tech for us to worry about.
