I will use pictures to help describe how to do plots. Below, I play as Nanbu and Uesugi has grown to become a huge blob. It would seem like it's game over right? NOPE.
Note: forgive my bad grammar and structure, I kind of rushed this because i wanted to get back to playing.
Im about 1/4 of their power, so how can I hope to even challenge them? Plots.
You need 4 Things:
1. Good master of the Guard (Theatre manufactory optional to hire ninjas faster. Send your master of the guard to the region where you made theatre)
2. Money
3. Family members to marry off (optimally women)
4. Very high honor (80+)
First off: don't even bother inviting those that say "My honor is too low", they will most likely not support you regardless.
You have to:
-Keep killing off your target clan leader until his heir is younger than 10(important).
-Kill off the target clan's leader(This will cause pretenders which will give you support later)
-Next, lower the target clan leader's honor with ninjas(repeat until in the 0-15 range) (This is important because when Honor is below 25, all vassals under the leader will have a -25 relationship status)
-Give gifts(20 gold) to all vassals of your target. Do this with clans surrounding your target.
-**Marry off your daughters to most likely prospects and to sweeten the deal for those who your really want to join you.
Note: Make sure to only invite people to your plot when you plan on executing it soon. Sometimes plotters leave plots because: it is risky to be in one, they might lose faith in you, or their relationships improves with their clan leader.
Having high honor along with all that you have done so far, your enemy is ready to be plotted on. Go ahead and make a plot on your target. Go to the family page of the target clan's leader and start inviting vassals on the right side starting from the top. If it says they might, invite them; if they say they will not join you, don't. When that is done you should have something similar to the screenshot below:
The 0.89 under what looks like a wave is the relative collective strength of all plotters vs your target. If you mouse over the "Initiate attack" it will say something like "Plot power at least xx". Your relative collective strength must at least equal that number.
You may not have enough power the first wave of invites to your plot. That is ok. Now that you have some support, others will join you more easily. Now you should ask other clan leaders that surround your target. Ask some vassals of your target again(some may join this time).
When everything is ready declare war on your target and spring your trap. Click the icon beside the "Initiate the attack (?) [here]".
After a few years of warring here is the result of my plot(still playing):
This plot not only toppled the mighty Uesugi, but also placed us in a better position to become shogun!
A funny thing happened to the Rokkaku. Ohara(a vassal of Rokkaku) also made a plot to split from them leaving me the strongest in all of Japan. Check out the stats and see the power of plots:
It takes a lot of patience, but it is very rewarding and come on -it's fun as hell to plot and beat a blob.
Update: Below are the pictures to the conclusion of my game. When i had 50% of Japan I just let my vassals do all the work. I was busy fighting that I forgot to marry my heir. As a result, he had no son and about 50 years old. I had to finish the game before he died or I'd lose the game. All of Japan would have been taken, but oh well. Shogun baby
Have fun with plots!
