Thread: 100% In-Character Roleplay Village

  1. #1

    100% In-Character Roleplay Village

Salem has a relatively rare no-restriction approach to game play. Combined with the minimal "meta-play" required to play Salem, it is my strong belief the environment will be entirely conducive to intense roleplaying.

As we approach open-beta testing, I hope to help develop a community which will be formed with the intent of practicing enlightenment era government-crafting in an entirely in character setting.

This communal approach to town creation will see the creation of some sort of social contract, a government apparatus of likely elected individuals, regular political meetings, and perhaps even festivals and other such events.

I am not sure how many of you are interested in the roleplaying but those of you who are will be more than welcome to participate.

I have to say that your idea is fantastic!
I have played a few games which required me to 100% roleplay all situations so I would be very interested in participating in your village once we get to try this game out

Sure, I'd be more than happy to participate in that.

Well, you can do that right away in Haven & Hearth...

    sounds interesting, i'm in.

Glad to see such interest. Once we see some dates, I will leave a notice here with a (likely free hosted) forums/bulletin board which will take the place of some sort of in character posting center... as per the old tradition of posting notices on Church Doors. Then those that are interested may begin interacting, and what will come of it will.

Very nice idea! I like where this is going

If this is open for casual MMO gamers and doesn`t turn into RP-Nazism I might be interested.

Casual players? Most definitely. If you mean, "Roleplay only when I feel like it, otherwise I will just shoot the shit and link pictures of lolcats", then this probably wouldn't be the best place for you.

The proposition is to create an immersive environment, and for that, players need to be in character when interacting with each other.

Fair enough, but what I meant was, if I really have to roleplay a wall of text including historically correct background details if I want to know, where to find the best wood.

Well, excuse the the (very slight) necropost, but I'd also be really interested in this. I've always loved roleplaying, and this game seems nigh-perfect for an RP atmosphere. Of course, although this IS mainly going to draw the paradox community (who are all in all a nice bunch of people) I've run into far too many RP-haters to feel safe in a perma-death game. We'd have to band together to protect our precious village, at least that's what I predict. But that can be fun.

No necro-post at all! - I check this thread every day or two for comments or suggestions. As per the notion of "preying on roleplayers"... I most certainly believe that players will try to attack us. There is a common stereotype that roleplayers are "easy targets", but at least from my experience this is entirely unfounded.

Beyond that, I think that it will actually be healthy to be targeted by other players. As we form a government (or organize ourselves however we, as a union, see fit) common enemies will provide us with an "active" experience that may be quite fun. I can only imagine players running for elected office on the platform of retaliation for attacks, and others with an isolationist and defensive approach.

In the end, interaction with such players will only give us more to do.

If there are any of you who are following this idea, but have not had the opportunity to play Haven and Hearth, about 4 of us have started a small outpost with the intent to better understand the mechanics and game play, so that we are not at a disadvantage when Salem hits open beta.

This is more of an "understanding mechanics" venture, and because of this we will not be doing entirely roleplay interaction for the sake of easing ourselves into the game.... I won't rule out a test run in the future, however.

If any of you are interested in learning Haven and Hearth, I would be more than willing to welcome you into our community, and assist you with learning the basics of the game.
