I only have a very short question concerning the party size limit in WF&S: It says i can have 59 troops but once i have 12 I dont get the option to recruit anymore. Is this working as expected? Should i rely on mercenaries then?

on my game i also don't have the offer to make myself a vassal. I run my own kingdom but i want protection from the Cossacks yet there is no option to become a vassal?

When I enter factions in notes i can read that the instabillity of a faction might be 0% of the lords are disgruntled and 66% are restless. What does this mean..?

I think it means how easy or hard it would be to convince the lords of that specific kingdom to join your kingdom.
It is a measure of the cohesion of a faction. The less cohesive a faction is, the less efficient a faction can wage wars as lords neglect their military duties.
I have tried to start up a new WFAS game again and there have been a few patches. My question is: How do i increase the size of caravans from small to larger. Does my trade skill govern that? I seem to have enough money or maybe not?
It seems to depend on the amount of goods available at the goods merchant

Octavio: You can only recruit from villages when you have 12 troops or less. WF&S is significantly different from Warband in recruitment and troop upgrades. Faction troops generally have regular, veteran, and elite levels (the village troops only go to veteran, but they usually upgrade from what they were down two paths (i.e. Polish scythe-wielder -> Poor Musketeer -> Veteran Poor Musketeer, etc.). Tavern mercenaries never upgrade, but camp mercenaries can upgrade in experience to regular, veteran, and elite, as well as upgrade in gear by using your own wealth. When you come to belong to a faction you can hire troops from their cities (i.e. Swedish Lifeguards) and these are the bread and butter of your armies. The camp mercenaries should be your elite forces, too expensive to sustain a whole army of them.
Robb1993: If you have your own territories you are in a way your own King, albeit of a rebel/bandit faction (which is pretty awesome actually). If you want to be a vassal you must work for a faction (one the existing ones, or one of the pretenders to the throne) before you have any land, and then be awarded land by your liege. Like in Warband, you can work for a faction as a mercenary (get a bit of money, no chance at land, option to renew your contract or not each month), or as a vassal.
Joelainen: As noted above, it's how happy the lords are with their King. If they are unhappy they may defect to another Kingdom, or join your faction, especially if you are propping up a pretender. Disgruntled lords are upset with their King for lack of recognition, restless lords are upset with their King for lack of opportunity (too much peace means no territory to gain). Disloyal lords are more likely to act independently during a campaign, as well.
Warcry: ProneOyster's got it right, you can only send a caravan of what exists in the market. It doesn't show up out of thin air as it used to in previous patches. Caravans are a lot slower at making money with 1.143, but they were overpowered previously. What I like to do is get a mission to go to another city (escort a caravan, herd cattle, deliver message, rescue kidnapped girl, etc.) then send a caravan to the same city, or one very close, and you can accomplish two goals at once. If you're lucky you can hit a bandit or two on the way. This makes money pretty quickly, I think. WF&S is a lot slower game than Warband, you'll spend significantly longer developing yourself into a capable warlord who can take on faction lords.

Short version: Is there any reason at all to play the vanilla M&B over warband?
I just picked up the game (friend really gave it his high regard) and I have an easy question: Should I just not install vanilla and only install warband? Is there something I'd miss by skipping vanilla or did warband just expand open vanilla and only add more features sort of like Civ4 and it's expansions?
From what I read on the TaleWorld forum there's no real point in playing the original, go strait to Warband.

What is the Single most Useful Unit in Warband? I've heard that Huscarls and Swadian sharpshooters are great for sieges, and Malemuks as chav, on the field. But Whats is the optimum army, dissregarding upkeep ?
You could try Lezalit's piece of advice: nord infantry, vaegir bown men, swadian knights and rhodok crossbowmen.
The addition of Sarranite is not fully integrated so their troops are missing in the depiction.
The Sarranite arent that good for such an Army, they dont have a "special" unit like the other.
Nord Meele Infantry, Vaegir Bowmen, Swadian Knights, Rhodok Crossbowmen/spear infantry, Khergit Mounted Bowmen.
the problem with such an Army is that you'll lose moral when you fight against a Faction where you get your Troops.
Dont fight against Swadia when you use Swadian units, Vaegir when you use Vaegir units, etc...
There closest thing to a "I win unit" would be yourself and some high level companions
The optimum army really depends on the situation and your style of play as to which top-tier unit you want to choose. For example you can mop the floor in field battles with only Heavy Cavalry, but sieges attacks will be needlessly costly.
One thing I will say though, I prefer the Nords over the Vaegir for archer becasue the Nords are much better in melee combat at the cost of only 20 archer proficiency (140 vs 120). Also they're tier 4 units so you get them faster and cheaper.
I really like ranged troops so my armies are usually made op of at least 60% ranged troops, the rest is Inf and sometime some Cavalry
The Sarranid Mameluk is very similar to the Swadian Knight, both are great Heavy Cavalry.

Gamersgate is selling M&B Warband for ~$8. So I'm thinking of getting it over the Fire & Sword because well I'm not a fan of guns - din't really like Fable 2 - and also because I heard it sucks generally still. Anyways, so I want to get M&B Warband.
But one thing is holding me back. The gamersgate page says "DRM:Other DRM" which can often mean that STEAM is required to install/play. Now I have nothing against the people that do like and use steam, but personally I choose not to purchase any game that requires STEAM in any sense. So can anyone tell me if this is true?
Do I need steam to play M&B Warband or can I install/play the GamersGate version without it? I don't want to pay and then find out...

I wont answer exactly to that.
The retail version is a Steam version.
But you do not need steam to play it on the long term.
The game exist under various versions, unlocked by different keys.
TW distributes their own version, Steam their own version.
TW version is unlocked by their TW key series, steam version by their key series.
Multiplayer use the TW key series though.
If you install the Steam version, it will display the TW key used for multiplayer associated to your copy.
Once done, you can download the TW version from TW website and unlock that version with the key you got from installing the Steam version.
You do not need Steam to play the game but you will give money to Steam no matter what.
There is a thread dedicated to that operation. Cant find it at the moment as I cant access that section right now.

And even if you buy it from Steam, you can download the TW version and activate it with your Steam key to play without Steam.
The DRM from the TaleWorld version is a one time activation to verify the cd-key. I suspect the GG version is the TW version.

Been watching a 'Let's Play' video on Youtube and the fella playing somehow manages to move stuff into his inventory after winning a battle instantly via some sort of key (and selling it via the same way once in a market) rather than constantly dragging and dropping. Any idea how he does it? Having to drag and drop everything gets really tiresome. Hopefully you know what I mean.
