So since theres no link to press to begin the download... would somebody mind telling me where the frack i can download this?
I did find patch 5.1 on a few sites like SoftPedia however in ALL cases it must have been a beta patch since the new map modes dont have icons.... Where can i download the REAL 5.1 with icons for new map modes etc?
POLAND CANNOT INTO SPACE!
I'm quite new to EU3, but I just got it from the ingame updater, the one on the start screen before the game actually launches.

Great new Patch, honestly.
Divine wind is a big upgrade from EU3 all together, and this is even better.
However, with the whole checksum thing, is there an easier way to change it... or?
Not sure what you mean. You don't change the checksum; the game changes it when files are modified. Every person with a properly-installed and unmodified Divine Wind 5.1 will have the same checksum.

Cant believe this patch negated your save games! I mean come on! Surely that should be the 1st thing tested with any patch, to make sure it's compatible with people's save games? People have been playing this for months so surely the developers know this is an important ommission?
No because Paradox never guarantees savegame compatibility with its patches. This has been their standard procedure for many years. Even if savegames do load (as they usually do) there will be issues of some kind.
You can't see the tech support forum until you register your game.

Since the 5.1 patch Divine Wind is not save game compatible at all. I tried starting a new game then saved it. It crashes to desktop! I thought it was just my old (i.e. from before the patch) saves which is bad enough, but I've found this happens when I try to load any save. I'm sorry but it's unforgiveable. All the other games I have don't do this when they're patched and I have an extensive game collection of games of varying age and genre. I have a friend who works as a games programmer for a well known software house and he said there should be no excuse. He says it's not a hard thing to do and says it's very sloppy or just plain lazy! I'm not going to be that damning because I like Paradox games and in this day of console ports, their more complex games are a breath of fresh air. However, in my experience (and it's pretty much 40 odd years of experience - I've been playing video games since pong!), most game companies now bend over backwards to make sure any patch doesn't negate save games so why can't Paradox? Surely a company that produces such complex and clever games such as EU3, HOI3, Pride Of Nations, Victoria 2, etc, etc should have the resources to ensure that each subsequent patch (and Paradox pride themselves on producing regular patches, thus support their games for longer than most other publishers) remains compatible with the save games of their user base. I bought a lot of Paradox games in the Steam sale and EU3 is the first one I've had time to learn to play so far. So does that mean I'm going to come across this same problem in the other games I bought? If so, I won't play any of them and have wasted my money. It takes a big time commitment to learn their games and to make that commitment of so many hours only to find I have to keep starting over everytime a new patch is released, is like a kick in the teeth to legitimate users. It's not just me. The Steam and Paradox forums are full of other people with the same problem and ultimately, this will reduce the user base because people like me will not buy their new releases. This would be a great shame because I like the complexity and originality of Paradox titles. Come on Paradox, sort it out!
Please register EU3 or EU3:complete and post in tech support. We will fix your problems there.

He has come from that thread.

Steam tech support? Never knew they had one; might be helpful if it's a Steam issue. Paradox tech support would probably be more helpful, but that forum is hidden until you register the base game. I suspect his primary issue (loading any saved game) is a problem with the install or configuration, but they deal with these issues all the time. I assure you/him that saved games are loadable.
On the separate issue of patch compatibility with saves made under prior versions: at the risk of coming across as a Paradox apologist, patch compatibility with save games means different things to different people. Unless my memory fails me, the vast majority of recent patches, including the 5.1 DW are generally savegame compatible, if you're just talking about the ability to reload a saved game. Yes, they make a point not to promise compatibility, and warn you that wonky things may happen. But if you want to continue a saved games under the new patch, it's generally quite doable (and I've done it many times). It's only when they change the way something is stored in the game files that saves are actually unloadable (rare).
However, since each patch changes the rules, to some extent or another, most people find it kind of pointless to continue a game started under one set of rules, with a different set of rules. Even a slight change to ... say ... naval maintenance costs or length of time for a horde to annex a province has a big influence on how a game will flow. So your savegame that has England hamstrung, or the Golden Horde occupying half of the HRE might be highly improbable, under the new patch. So most people prefer and recommend a fresh start.
Is it possible to make things so compatible that a save could be completely compatible? Sure. Is it desirable? No. You'd essentially have to re-run the game from the start under the new set of rules. There's just no realistic, cost-effective way for a programmer to undo the myriad ripples that such changes would have on a game. Not only would the costs be prohibitive, for miniscule gain, the performance hit for storing and tracking all the decisions and history, that would have to be undone/redone, would be unacceptable.

I've tried to register in EU3 and EU3 Complete but it won't accept my CD key. The Divine Wind key worked and seeing as this is the version I'm playing (Steam auto updates you straight to Divine Wind), I can't see why I can't get this issue answered here! [keys removed]

Paradox requires games to be registered on these forums in order to receive technical support here. This is instead of using any form of copy protection on their games.
Unfortunately you happen to have one of the bad codes that Steam gave out for a while, the process that jdrou pointed you to will get you a new key in a few days usually.
