Okay so this will be my first AAR. Using the latest version of MEIOU in DW. I will be starting the game as Leinster. No Reloading. Default settings.

My plan:

1-Form Ireland
2-
3- Profit

I chose Ireland because I like to play the underdogs of History.

Im new at this whole AAR business too so bare with me. Only Problem/question I have is how to post pictures.

Ill post an update shortly.

The island of Ireland or Hibernia was a divided land. 4 Irish Kingdoms dotted the Island. In the North Ulster. Richest of the Irish States but having the smallest Population. To the South Connaught. A Poor Backwater but with a central and Strategic Location. South of that lied Munster and Lienster. Neither as Rich as Ulster but both had larger populations. To The East of Connaught lied the Pale. The pale was a part of Ireland occupied by the English Crown. Here lied Meade with its Capital Dublin. Largest city in Ireland and its Cultural and Economic Center.

Leinster was a small Irish Kingdom. Nothing but a spec on the European Continent. King Art MacMurrough sought to change this. He envisioned a great Irish Kingdom. One that can overcome their petty internal squabbles and challenge even the likes of the English Crown.

Many said he was a fool. Determined but foolish. No one thought he would follow through on his ideas but he would prove them wrong.

His first order of business was to push for a more plutocratic society and break down the old aristocratic order which he felt threatened his power and the future greatness of the Irish State.

Next order of business was to create a proper court. The king felt that the economy would be the backbone to any future success of an Irish Kingdom. His court's main focus was controlling and limiting inflation and increase in tax and production revenues. They advised the king not to mint gold and not to involve the kingdom in the affairs of international trading for they considered it to be a bad investment for the fledgling state.

The King Agreed and adopted their economic plan.

As part of the new Economic Plan, Land Reform was enacted. It increased the production of Wheat in the capital creating new tax revenues and a increase in available man power.

This increase was just what the king needed for his Expansion of the Leinster Army. The Army stood at a pathetic 1000 men. He sought to double this in preparation for a conquest spree.

He and the court decided Munster would be the best target as it was wealthier then Conaught.

Insults were sent to the king of Munster prior to the Invasion.

However before the invasion started.....

The King was displeased but did not let him stop him from his goals.

As part of the reform of the Army the king instituted a policy of a military drill to professionalize his troops. This came to the displeasure of the Naval Establishment who wanted to maintain Leinster as a primarily naval based power.

After that the army prepared itself. The Fresh new troops organized and then the declaration of war was sent. The King would be leading his army into Battle. He prayed for the best.

The Kings Army marched into Munster. After a short battle, Munster's Army of 1000 men was easily routed by the numerically superior forced of Leinster. Siege was laid on the City. Meanwhile at Sea Leinsters Navy was sent in an attempt to blockade the Coast of Munster. Munsters Navy put up a good fight to prevent this from happening. At the same time 1000 peasants revolted on the countryside and attempted hopelessly to route the invaders. They where put down with haste.

Then...

Munster was shortly incorporated as a new county in the Kingdom of Leinster. Land Reform was enacted there as well and new 1000 troops where being raised from the new manpower pools in Munster. Leinster now had access to Cattle as a trade-able resource in addition to their fields of Wheat.

While a great victory for King Art MacMurrough, internationally the invasion was criticized and the Kingdoms reputation tarnished.

On top of that Connaught to the North Formed an Alliance with Scotland in an attempt to secure their sovereignty from Leinster.

This angered the king. It put his conquest Plans on Hold. If he was to advance northward he would have to contend with a much larger Scottish Force. He did not have the manpower nor resources to deal with, despite the fact that Connaught was the poorest of the Irish States.

He searched desperately for new sources of tax revenue to pay off future conquests and his growing army of now 3000 men strong.

He reluctantly passed Liquor Act which taxed and licensed the sale of alcoholic beverages within the Kingdom. This angered the populace but he knew sacrifices had to be made int he short term if his dream of a united Ireland was to bear fruition.

The king now retired to idleness as he waited for the diplomatic front to favor him. He hoped for a continuation of Hostilities between England and Scotland so he can continue his conquest of Northern Ireland.

His court proposed the idea to try and invade Tyrone by Sea. It was risky and more costly but Tyrone was the wealthiest of the Irish Kingdoms and it could put Leinster in a better position to Invade Conaught from North and South.

The King Considered it. He would need to raise funds to build up his navy. Funds he did not have.....

Thanks for the tip Ill do that with the next batch of uploads. Gonna have to bear with these pictures for this update.

Irish nationals rose up in revolt in the heartland of Ireland, Dublin. The king was please until he realized they flew the flag of Conaught.

His King Assured him this could be turned into a positive. If County Meade successfully defects to Connaught it can be an easy Conquest for Leinster. Instead of having to capture it from the English.

This reassured the king that his future Capital of Ireland will be in hands shortly.

Ironically Scotland Offered Leinster an Alliance. Undoubtedly they saw the Tensions in Ireland and instead of being drawn into it they rather mediate.

This is a sign of weakness. The King accepted the proposal and was intrigued when he received word of Scotlands internal strife.

Their Army was in ruins and the countryside in revolt. They are in no position to intervene in some Irish Conflict a sea away.

The Kings plans immediately changed. And he picked himself up out of his drunken Idleness. Leinster was not making enough gold to create the fleet needed to invade Tyrone so the plan was scrapped.

He instead decided to insure Scotland would remain out of the conflict through a series of diplomatic initiatives.

He got his rather ugly Niece and proposed a royal marriage with scotland to further distance themselves from Connaught and prevent Scottish Intervention. He labeled it some sort of Gaellic Union of sorts.

Whether the Scots caught on to the kings ulterior motives or they simply found his Nice horrid they decided to deny the offer.

The King was taken back. His Niece in Tears. He got his rather Charming Grand Daughter instead and proposed a new Royal marriage offer. This time the Scots where more accepting.

Shortly after good news arrived from Dublin. The Irish nationalists overran the English Garrison and Meade was free of British Rule for the time being.

The king took his time. He would need to wait this out and see the English response. He hoped the County would formally defect but it would take time. Valuable time in which he could fixed Leinsters reputation in preparation for an Invasion of a larger Connaught. The King was anxious and happy knowing in a few short years he would control all of Ireland south of Tyrone. An Ireland free from English yoke and one with a grand capital in Dublin.

He wanted to ensure this was to be his legacy. He needed more reassurance the Scots would not intervene.

He proposed a treaty to allow the Scots access to Leinsters Territory and Ports. It was accepted. Another step to secure Scottish Isolationism.

He knew even in the worst case scenario Scotland would not be as big of a threat as he had hoped. And if he could successfully integrate Connought and Dublin before the Scots had time to land an Invasion force, that he would be in a better defensive position. Leinster also had full manpower reserves. So in the event of a long drawn out war with Scotland or Connaught, the Kings men could be reinforced with ease.

Only Time would tells and in the coming months the King prepared to make some important decisions that would change Irelands future.

Pictures should be better now. Sorry for that. Ill go back and fix it after this update.

Good news from England. A pretender Rebel rose in Oxford and was distracting the English for the time being. This would keep the English distracted from Ireland for the time being.

eu323.png

The court presented the king with news that their new developments in military technology where redundant. He denied their requests to start over and insisted there was nothing wrong with the brittle iron swords that snap on impact.

eu324.png

Amazingly the Rebels who had taken over Meade decided to march south in leinsters Territory. Marching straight for the capital. Pillaging and looting everything in their way.

The King was with the Army in Munster putting down rebels quickly marched his troops to the capital to fight a force that outnumbered his. He knew Connaught was behind this. He believed they encouraged the rebels to march southward in an attempt to weaken Leinster.

eu325.png

After the battle the Rebels routed north again into Dublin.

At the same time though the pretender rebels in the South of England were put down and now the Royal navy with 13,000 Men where about to land ashore in Dublin.

They Quickly Killed the worn out Rebels and laid siege to Dublin.

The King lost his chance for Dublin but not Everything was lost.

eu326b.png

Scotland got into a peculiar war with Athens and Aragorn. Some distant lands the king could barely pronounce let alone point out on a map. He didnt care what was the reason for this bizarre war all he cared about was conquering Conaught once and for all and putting down a pesty old Rival.

The king as sure Scotland at this point would not Intervence. If it did it would only have half its forces ready and not enough ships to deploy them all to ireland.

eu327z.png

The English Retook Dublin. Sad day for the Irish. Leisnter blamed Connaught. If the rebels had flown the flag of Leinster, He believed Dublin would be in their hands by now.

Now the King would prepare himself for his next conquest. He fixed Leinsters International reputation and was confident in his soon to be had victory. As for Meade the court proposed Leinster incite a new revolt in the county. The King Agreed. he had the spies just not the money. He would need to wait and accumulate it so the plan was sidelined for the time being.

Connaught, although poor was of strategic importance. It sat in the center of Ireland. Every Irish county bordered it. If a future Irish state was to be formed, the King Believe the government focus should be in Connaught. So All Countys benefit from its proximity.

GREAT! i will be following, will there be humor in it? :D

Thank you! And I will try my best.

I am curious if you could form a British state under Ireland?

Also ''Ireland'' as a nation only developed while under English-British rule.

So this should be an interesting read.

Really? Didnt know that. So any sense of irish Unity only came after being conquered?

No matter. Forward with Irish Unity.

Sorta, Ulster wasn't even Celtic in culture until the O'Neil clans conquered it in the 1400's.

But I am sure had one of the kingdoms managed to gain a dominant hand of power they would have formed an Irish state.

But it would probably be call Hibernia rather than Ireland.

But I shall be following.

You know that there is a "formable" Celtic Empire in MEIOU? (Goal for "2-" :D)

You need Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall and Britanny owned/cored. Take a look into the decisions' folder, "D - forming new nations" file.

Excellent.

And that is the Premise. Figure this king from Leinster simply was a lucky Irish Warlord who successfully got enough of Ireland under his control so that he could declare a Unified Irish State. Probably a very decentralized one with most people being more loyal to their local area rather to the national government or the King.

If ireland is united and later gets into conflict with England, I can say that was the turning point where Irish identiy began to be formed.

The English Depart from meade. The King didnt want to risk a war with Connaught while 13,000 English Troops sat on his border.

The Day they disembarked he lead the army into Connaught.

eu329d.png

Scotland not only denied our call to arms but instead decided to declare war on us

eu330.png

Shortly there after we suffer a series of declarations of war from Scotlands Allies who the King did not consider.

eu331.png

This put us at war with most of Central Europe. Poland was leading the war. They embargoed us too. Not that it mattered.

eu333e.png

The king was not concerned. On the actually front he won two key victories which destroyed Connaught's 2000 Strong Army. Their capital was now under siege.

eu334.png

The siege was over. Connaught Annexed. Connaught is the newest County of the kingdom of Leinster. Following this Land Reform was enacted and New troops were recruited.

All great but the war is not over. The king needs to find away to establish Peace with these foreign nations. Their is no immediate fear of Invasion but seeking out an Alliance with another major power would be beneficial at this time.

The King is one step closer to his dream of a United Ireland. All that stands in his way is Tyrone and the English Pale.

Following the Annexation the scottish were ready for peace. They proposed a white peace and it was accepted.

Shortly after Poland followed and the war ended. The King got Lucky this time.

eu336.png

With the war over the most of the Government Institutions and bureaucracy was moved to Connaught. It became the Governments National Focus.

The king now faced new threats. This one is Financial. The war created a budget deficit. Following the recruitment of another 1000 troops the deficit only grew forcing the King to cut military funding, even considered Disbanding the Navy.

This only delayed the problem. The court predicted by the end of the year Leinster will be broke. He was forced to break the terms of his economic plan set years ago. He began to mint Gold to end the deficit. It will cause Inflation temporarily but The king hoped his Treasurer will be able to reverse the Inflation after the Deficit came under control and the minting could cease.

King MacMurrough has over Half of Ireland under his control. Quite a feat in only a few short years.

King Arts economic policies where of mixed success. He was very reluctant to start minting gold. It was his only choice though. Inflation skyrocketed to just shy of 1%.

He began more domestic reforms. He followed through with a policy of making Leinster more Plutocratic. He was always at odds with the countries aristocrats. He came from a poor Background. Worked his way up the ranks until he took the throne of Leinster. He was the Warrior King.

eu338.png

It would be the last decision of the Warrior King though. He was an old man and he died peacefully in his Country Estate.

eu339.png

He Reigned for 10 years. He elder son Dermont took the throne. He already has an heir so the line is secure.

Old King Art didnt fufill his dream of a united Ireland but his son is nearly there.

He faces many problems left by his father though. First he must contend with the Inflation cause by the Minting of Gold. Next if he is going to conquer Tyrone he is going to need to repair the reputation of Leinster.

The court also suggested reversing his fathers policies of Anti Trading. Leinster is now a more established country. The court argued if we initiated trading abroad it could bring great wealth to the Country. Right now the country is still a poor backwater. The court said if we played our cards right we could become a successful trading nation. They suggested transferring funds from his Fathers Military Drill program and instead invest them in a National Trade Policy.

King Dermont will consider it. His first goal was to finish what his father started. A United Ireland. With the wealth of Tyrone under his control he would have the wealth necessary to jump start a trading policy.

Good luck! It is damn hard to get off that island, I did a Connaught game 2 games back and ended up being a trading/colonial power after forming Ireland but it took a long time of counting fractions of a ducat.

Also your fonts are much nicer than mine I am thinking I messed up the install.
